Resist Trump today by meming it up with memes

I made a meme!

One thing we’ve learned over the past year is that memes can actually influence politics. Alas, we learned this lesson from the rise of the meme-obsessed neo-Nazi alt-right.

No, memes aren’t going to win over any hardcore Trump fans. But they may help to convince some less-committed Trump voters that they made a big mistake voting for the orange one. If nothing else, they’ll amuse other Trump Resisters, many of whom, like me, may be a little starved for amusement these days.

So make some memes! It’s easy as hell!

Turn old memes into anti-Trump (or anti-Republican) memes at Meme Generator and similar sites.

If you want to do more graphically, there are a ton of very useful free apps and sites to help you.

Paint.net — A handy free image editor for Windows, weirdly not located at Paint.net online.

Phixr — A basic all-around online editor that I use all the time.

Photomania — Good basic arty filters alongside some hokey effects.

Dreamscope — Great and often weird arty filters (including some creepy Deep Dream filters); used to be really slow but now much much quicker.

Lunapic — Some nice arty filters plus basic image editing tools.

And there are of course tons of mobile apps. Some of my favorite ones on Android include Prisma, Alter and Paintbrush (if you’re looking for weird arty filters). Try Fotor or PicsArt for more comprehensive editing tools.

Oh, and if you’re too lazy to carefully cut out Trump heads for your memes, other people have already done this for you! Go here for assorted exploitable Trump heads. Or just do an image search for “Trump head.”

Post your memes — or just some good ones you’ve found — in the comments below.

Then post them on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, wherever.

PS: If any of you have found good repositories of anti-Trump memes, on Facebook or elsewhere, link them in the comments below for a future #ResistTrump post.

Save yourself the headache. Look at that shebang later when you’re in the mood at looking up jerks.

Thank you Ooglyboggles! Much appreciated!
The first of those looks good for me – and thank you for the antivirus rec offer too (I have ZoneAlarm, so I’ll run that over it before opening as a routine precaution anyway).

(The first one that came up from googling was something called TumblRipper, but I’d always rather look at a recommendation than just my random search. I dare say there are probably a fair few for something simple like what I want to do, and which so many people probably do all the time, but I just felt I had no idea where to start – thanks again!)

Duly noted.

It’s because of that thing with the dragons, isn’t it ?

I still refuse to believe there are dragons in Dragon Age. I’ve never encountered any.

Skyrim throws one at me whenever I step foot outside.

But then I haven’t encountered a dragon in Dungeons & Dragons since, like, 1999. Dungeons, yes. Dragons, no. Because someone decided that dragons are for high-level characters.

@Viscaria: Hey, no big, like I said. We’re cool.

EDIT: I left the comment in an edit, and I just took it that you hadn’t seen the edit before you left your comment.

I have this weird thing where I mostly agree with feminist criticisms of Moffat but I still end up liking his stuff. Coupling is so incredibly men are from Mars, women are from Venus and yet it has me cackling with laughter. I don’t know what it is.

I’m the same way. I have a lot of issues with Moffat and I can see all the problems with Coupling, and yet I have never laughed harder in my life than I did at that show and I rewatch it frequently.

Regarding Tumblr unfollowings, I was following someone for their Terry Pratchett stuff and one day they posted a quote from Karen Straughan. I side-eyed it but the quote itself wasn’t bad out of context and if you didn’t know who she was. Then a while later there was an approving reblog of the wage gap being due to women’s choices. I gritted my teeth, but they found the best Discworld stuff so I didn’t do anything. Finally they reblogged Milo and I was fuck it, no amount of Pratchett is worth supporting this.

I still refuse to believe there are dragons in Dragon Age. I’ve never encountered any.

The first game’s final boss is a dragon, which is shown early in the game, like, right after you turn Grey Warden in a dream. And there’s over a dozen dragons in DA:I. 😐

It’s because of that thing with the dragons, isn’t it ?

No, it’s about he’s a liar and a traitor because of certain things in Trespasser if you side with the Qunari, he’s a rapist because of the way he hits on Dorian if you don’t romance either, he’s a sexual predator because he’s into BDSM, he’s sexist because of his views of women, he’s the stereotypical “evil bisexual” trope because of the first point, he doesn’t respect commitment because of something he says to Cassandra while in a romance, he’s ugly, blah blah blah.

My Bull Baby is too good for this world. In fact, all the Dragon Age characters are too good for this world, from Meredith to Josephine to Carver to Tamlin. Except Cullen. They can keep the Inquisition version of Cullen. Ramen haired Cullen is also too good for the world but Inquisition Cullen is just right for it, which his shitty “redemption arc” and his sudden fucking makeover, he’s goddamn tailor made for them.

I’m taking them all to fly on the dragon you get if you drink from the Well of Sorrows or whatever, I don’t care if I waste it and it won’t come when called to fight Corypheus’ dragon, we all deserve a good dragon flight, especially just Bull and me. And Solas. And Josephine. And Sera and/or Dorian because you can either choose a lady or gent which is shit.

(Also I love that comic.)

Dungeons, yes. Dragons, no.

Maybe you accidentally bought a copy of ‘Dungeons or Dragons’.

Wait, archdemons count as dragons ? No way. Ex-dragons at best. The reason is that archdemons kinda suck, whereas dragons are supposed to be awesome. Because logic.

There’s also the one on that mountain yonder with some temple or something (look, it’s been years, I don’t remember shit). Also Flemeth in dragon-form. Flemeth is cooler than archdemons so she gets to be a real dragon as far as I’m concerned.

On Bull : I’ve only ever done one playthrough of Inquisition, and it was like two years ago, so I guess I don’t remember enough. Also I didn’t touch any of the DLC. But what about Bull’s views on women ? I don’t remember anything about that. And what about him and Dorian ?

Maybe I should play Inquisition again.

Hey, bonus track because MGDMT is awesome.

By the way I just finished Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep and it was amazing.

Handsome (Punkle Stan) Jack

@Sinkable John

But what about Bull’s views on women ?

He playfully teases Cassandra about her not being considered a woman under the Qun for being a warrior during some travel banter. Plus he says “this is why we don’t let women be warriors under the Qun” to make her hit him harder during that whole “control my fear by hitting me in the stomach” scene, which works because he fucking double overs after she fucking hits him super goddamn hard. It was great. Otherwise I don’t know.

And what about him and Dorian ?

If you don’t romance him or Dorian, they hook up if you take them on enough missions together. Bull does some really, really sexual flirting, and you can interrupt Dorian’s responses as he doesn’t like it, but you could also interpret it as him being somewhat flustered from the brazen Bull.

Their ship is called Adoribull.

,’:D

By the way I just finished Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep and it was amazing.

Yes, that is, like, the BEST DLC. The only thing that would have made it better would have been, like, non-gun weapon loot, like a crossbow or sword instead. That would have been awesome.

Sinkable John : Pansy Ass Pinko, Regicidal Beast-of-Burden
Sinkable John : Pansy Ass Pinko, Regicidal Beast-of-Burden

Wait, why would you want a sword when you can have a gun that shoots swords that then explode into smaller swords ?

Also I actually teared up at the end, what with the Roland thing and all. Watching Tina deal with it was heartwrenching. Well, that, and I still haven’t forgiven the main game for Bloodwing.

Also, Bull+Dorian always seemed weird to me. I mean, doesn’t “I wanna fuck dragons, but sure, I’ll settle for the smug mage with a moustache” sound kinda… un-Bull ? I mean I still have no idea how the hell he hasn’t tried to hit on Flemeth yet. (He hasn’t, has he ?)

Okay, I’ll admit it, I don’t like Dorian. Mainly because he’s smug. Just a tiny bit because of the moustache.

While I haven’t seen any of Moffat’s stuff (can’t afford cable, and I prefer not to use YouTube on my iPhone because of the small size of my screen), I do find myself massively side-eyeing a guy who puts on a 50 year anniversary special of Dr. Who, and doesn’t invite Dr.’s One through Eight to the party. >:|

From what I understood of the matter, the surviving Classic Who Doctors would’ve made themselves available to do it, and subs could’ve been found to play One, Two, and Three, as it’s been done before in the franchise (The Five Doctors special did that for One and Two). Or does the current generation of the show not want to acknowledge its past in any way, shape, or form?

As for dragons in games, I’ll stick with Flight Rising for that. Nothing but dragons all over the place; no humans allowed. XD (Except on the roleplaying forum, where they have to be magicked in from another dimension, but otherwise….)

Also the whole time I’ve been playing BL2 (again) and its DLC (for the first time) I was thinking about what you said about how Mr. Torgue needs to adopt Tina. Then I thought about how I want Tina as a playable character and how I’d definitely play as her even though my playstyle is basically the absolute opposite to explosions. (Like, my favorite playable ever* is Mordecai in BL1, because revolvers and sniper rifles, especially the kinds with abysmally slow rate of fire and really high damage and critical damage)

But then I thought of something else.

He needs to adopt her, and they need to be a character in BL3. Like, Tina sitting on Torgue’s shoulders. Their action skill is Tina throwing explosives all over the place, and their class perks include affinity to explosions (instead of something boring like loyalty perks on Torgue weapons) like Sirens have affinity with all other elements. Their level up sound is replaced by Torgue voicing a guitar riff. The whole HUD while playing as them is UPPER CASE.

*Granted, I haven’t tried Krieg or Gaige yet (didn’t have DLC before) or anyone in The Pre-Sequel other than Athena. Aurelia seems awesome though. Nisha seems cool too, but I hate her guts from BL2. I am never, ever, playing as Claptrap. Please make Tina-Torgue blow Claptrap up and then Gaige salvage the scrap and build a robo-Bloodwing for Mordecai so that he can come back as a playable. Please please please.

How could you, in my own home defame the hot, nerdy, fragile, gay-ass necromancer Dorian Pavus. I am appalled. Appalled I say! Next you’re gonna say you wouldn’t find it a privilege to have Vivienne step on your face.

The gall.

But actually Dorian and Bull are rather cute together, plus their ship name is a pun. A PUN. David Gaider and Patrick Weekes didn’t RP them together for us not to use the pun.

*Granted, I haven’t tried Krieg or Gaige yet (didn’t have DLC before) or anyone in The Pre-Sequel other than Athena. Aurelia seems awesome though. Nisha seems cool too, but I hate her guts from BL2. I am never, ever, playing as Claptrap

Gaige is AMAZING. She’s my favorite and VERY OP. But if you hate Nisha (as beautiful and scary as she is) you’re gonna despise Aurelia (who is like as if Varric decided to make a comical caricature of Vivienne, she is, stepping and all).

Did you manage to catch ‘Night of the Doctor’ and ‘the Five(ish) Doctors’?

If not try to see if there’s a way you can track them down. You might well enjoy them and they, sort of, address your concerns. 5(ish) very much makes the same point.

It’s because of that thing with the puppy.

Aurelia, well… I mean look at dat skill tree. Also, sister to Sir Hammerlock. That oughta be fun.

Handsome (Punkle Stan) Jack

It’s because of that thing with the puppy.

Ah, yes, her killing a puppy off screen to demonstrate how evil she is. They give her a freudian excuse that her own dog turned rabid and attacked her and she had to kill it and she’s hated dogs ever since in the Pre-Sequel. Not that it’s not a good excuse. But in her defense, I’m pretty sure most characters, with the exception of Athena maybe, would kill a puppy for the right price. I’ve killed myself for 12 eridium so I mean.

@Alan Robertshaw,

Not as of yet. I read the Wiki summary of those episodes, and they do sound like they answered a thing or two about my concerns, though not all of them. I’ll have to track those down sometime and see how it was all handled and everything.

@Scented Fucking Hard Chairs, @Rhuu,

I’m Cloudtiger over there, playing in Arcane. My place for relaxing and escaping from the world when I need it. Petting the dergs can be rather relaxing at times, I’ve noticed. XD Just need to sit down and work on my lore a lot more than I have up to this point.

And it seems like a bunch of people lately are moving into Ice. Must be for the cat gifs, I think. 😉

@Redsilkphoenix:

Or does the current generation of the show not want to acknowledge its past in any way, shape, or form?

Oh no, Moffat’s a humongous fan. We were all disappointed that #1-7 weren’t involved, but we only had an hour. The Three Doctors got twice that, at 100 minutes; The Five Doctors had 90 minutes; and The Two Doctors is the longest, at 135 minutes. Paul McGann got a ten-minute minisode with the Sisterhood of Karn (!!) practically all to himself.

Moffat’s written in any number of little gestures to the classic series, and revived multiple aspects, from the Silurians to the Zygons to the Ice Warriors. The Christmas episode for 2012 even involved the Great Intelligence!

We have to remember that he’s got budget and time constraints that are imposed upon him by the BBC. I’m sure he’d have loved to include all of the classic stars, if he had but world enough and time.

Peter Capaldi’s a big fan, too, and delights in being as niche as possible. When asked at a convention panel who their favorite Who monsters were, there were the usual answers. I think Moffat said, the Yeti. Peter Capaldi said … the Chumblies. They only appeared in one serial, and it doesn’t even exist anymore.
