It’s time for another visit to The Comments I Don’t Let Through, my ongoing series in which I post, well, comments that are too extreme to just let through the moderation filter, but that, holy crap, I can’t really keep to myself.
Today, an all-caps, wall-of-text rant left in the comments this morning by a self-described “MGTOWRevolutionary.” Actually, he left it in the comments twice, with slight variations.
What follows is Mr. Revolutionary’s second rant, with several sentences from his first rant at appropriate points. I have also broken his walls-o-text into shorter paragraphs because we here at We Hunted the Mammoth are into tearing down walls, not building them up. I’m going to post it without snarky comments because, well, it’s late and I’m too tired to think any up.
(Oh, and be warned that there are some pretty nasty comments about domestic violence in the middle of his rant.)

Ok, I lied about not making snarky comments. I sort of feel it is incumbent upon me to point out that, as a man, I am not in fact A TYPICAL FEMALE of any type, given that TYPICAL FEMALES tend to be, you know, female.

Before I came into contact with MGTOWs and their ilk, I never once heard this “women don’t do a proper day’s work” stereotype. It’s completely divorced from any reality I know of.
The popularity of Nazisploitation literature in Israel in the ’50s and ’60s didn’t feel that surprising once I started thinking deeply about it. The readers wouldn’t be the Holocaust survivors, but their teenaged/early-twenties children. Sure, the genre is messed-up and horrifying, but even a schlocky, porny version of the events might have provided some sort of grounding if you were a kid aware that one or both of your parents had been through Something that they would never tell you about. And sexual arousal can be a way for some (obviously not all) people to cope with fear. I’ve heard of sexual fantasies that sound more like phobias, and vice versa.
The books were cathartic, in short.
Specifically, the library publishing the book had the stated aim of making it MORE likely that people would pick up the annotated version and read it critically, since it’s freely available now that Mein Kampf is out of copyright. I had a similar gut nope response to the headline, but it was pointed out to me that those who wish to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, etc, etc. I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t already broadly available online as soon as the copyright expired, and honestly speaking I would be very interested in reading a translation (if I wasn’t unspeakably lazy when it comes to historical political reading, but that’s a personal flaw). That doesn’t mean I’m sympathetic to Hitler’s views, just that I want to understand where that way of thinking comes from. Personally, I think the annotated publication draws a good medium between uncritical dissemination and blanket censorship – it means people with an academic interest in the book can read it legitimately, but it’s clear that the publishers don’t condone the ideas. It also makes propagandising and outright lies in the book much less effective if they’re shown alongside relevant facts. Making it available like this also makes it less likely that people interested will find the book from sources who think Hitler Was Right, which lowers the chances that people will be swayed by its arguments.
I know a few women who don’t do paid work. They work as hard as I ever have. Just for no pay.

Men die earlier than women for a number of reasons – none of which are women’s fault.
Higher rates of heart disease for eg are associated with high levels of testosterone.
Poorer dental hygiene is much more commonly found in men and: ‘even in non-smoking populations, researchers have found a strong correlation between the oral condition and heart disease. One hypothesis is that bacteria from the oral cavity spread throughout the body, worsening other inflammatory conditions, like heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis and type 2 diabetes’.
Men are less likely to go to the doctor, and neglect their health in many small ways.
Both men and women smoke, drink alcohol and take recreational drugs, but men are more likely to do it more often and in larger amounts (Male drug users are twice as likely as women to develop a problem at some stage 18% and 9% respectively – British drugs survey 2014).
Men suicide more, and while this does not make a great difference to overall death rates (and has been the case for hundreds of years) it does imply that men have less support for the difficult times.

Mein Kampf isn’t banned in Germany? That’s actually kind of a surprise. It is banned where I live, in the Netherlands. In fact, as far as I’m aware it’s the only banned book here
This guy needs to pick an insult and stick with it. Either we’re too lazy to make our own money or we’re stealing the comfortable jobs. In order to contribute to society as this guy claims we’re not doing, don’t we have to “steal” those jobs? Don’t we need jobs to make the money that would be needed to contribute? So, if we are working and making money, we’ve stolen the job we have from a man and we don’t deserve it. According to them, we should stay home. If we do stay home, then we’re moochers. We can’t win, can we?
I for one am glad to have stolen a job from this guy. The guys like this that I’ve met, the ones that say that women belong in the home, or the ones who basically have the same shitty attitude that this guy has, are the absolute worst workers I’ve ever had the misfortune of encountering. They whine and complain about having to work through their entire shift. It’s interesting (and infuriating) when guys like this come on these blogs and have the audacity to call us lazy. No. Just no.

We had to read Mein Kampf (along with Night, and The Rise And Fall of the Third Reich, and a few others) in high school IB history class.
Christ on a cracker, what a terrible book. And I don’t just mean the subject matter. Hitler is legitimately an awful, awful writer. Verbose, meandering prose that never gets to the damn point.
I file it under “fascists are just generally shit at art”. There’s gotta be something to that, honestly. The only competent art fascists make is stolen (Pepe memes, anyone?)- it’s like something fundamental in their makeup.

Jonathan Meades did a great documentary about fascism and art (and why generally their output is rubbish). Hopefully this link will work for you.
I used to teach ninth grade English, and we read “The Book Thief” (which, BTW, not my cup of tea, but whatever, we did), and two of my students wanted to read “Mein Kampf”, which plays a role in the story, or at least a copy of it does.
I told them that they could read it, or sections, and give me feedback for extra credit. We didn’t have a copy in the school library, so I clued them in about interlibrary loan, and their local public library got them a copy.
They explained to me, VERY SERIOUSLY, about how they had carefully explained to the librarian that they were not Nazis, and this was FOR RESEARCH ONLY, and they were not even slightly fascist, because they did not want her to think badly of them. This coming, you must understand, from two bright-eyed Asian fourteen-year-olds in Catholic school uniform.
They thought it was boring as hell, and very badly written.
@Christina Nordlander–As far as I can tell, the thing that triggered the brief popularity of Nazi sex fiction in Israel was a novella called “House of Dolls”, which was about the Joy Divisions, and apparently at least partly based on the author’s sister’s experience. It was read extensively by teenage boys, who, as you say, I think were drawn to both the graphic sexual content, and the insight into the Shoah, which many of their parents’ generation had survived. The Holocaust was very taboo in Israel at the time. Then there were cheap imitations, much more sensationalistic, produced by publishers looking to make a buck.
There’s a sweet, wrenching movie about an Israeli teenager of that generation, “The Matchmaker”. He seeks out a copy of ‘House of Dolls’ at one point. He comments at one point that the big difference between his Romanian family and his best friend’s Iraqi family is that his friend has aunts and uncles. For the children of the survivors there were all these blank spaces that they tried to fill in.

This is again a bit random, but for people interested in documentaries which are critical of Nazism – Channel 4 in the UK showed an interesting documentary on the 1934 Berlin Olympics and how fascism has shaped the modern Olympics… (plus a load about corruption and stuff, and “cleaning up” the population to present Berlin as some kind of paradise, so everyone visiting would think this whole fascism thing wasn’t so bad after all. Argh I don’t wanna spoil it. Can you spoil a documentary?)
Anyway, it was pretty interesting. I’m not sure how to watch it outside of the UK though.

Oh, more re. Mein Kampf… it wasn’t so much banned, more that Bavaria owned the copyright and wouldn’t let anyone print it. I think the English translation from way back has been available free for some time, although it’s supposed to be terrible. (Which is just what you need – a terribly written book with horrible content being made even worse.)

My dad lives with a woman who has a parasitical approach to his money – he literally got taken for a ride in their divorce (they still live together) straight out of a MGTOW fantasy – literally her reasons for divorcing him was that she wanted his lump sum pension after he retired but didn’t want to be financially responsible for him if he got sick and she’d already run through his inheritance buying small airplanes. And even she does lots of work around the house, cooking and cleaning (after a fashion) and laundering. Some people are users, she’s definitely one of them. But that’s #notallwomen not even most women. Frankly, my mother is a user, too and she took him for a ride in their divorce (such as she was able to – there wasn’t a lot of money then) so he seems to be able to pick them…as do I, but my users and abusers are men. It’s probably some kind of ACoA trait, I dunno.
As I’m an expat, I have known a few trailing spouses who don’t work. But not all of them are women. For those that are women, they do a lot of ‘lifestyle’ work, which contributes to the status of their husbands and often have children at home as well, but not always.
This is very scary! My best friend is dating a guy who says he is MGTOW. She is scared of feminism because of our church, but we seriously need to learn more about it.

Reddit employees finally admitting that their site really is a cesspool. Of course not taking any responsibility for the mess we’re in now, naturally, but it’s interesting. I had no idea that the assholes had 30-40% of the traffic on Reddit, but I guess I’m not surprised. And that’s after the clean up of the dozen or so terrible subreddits from this summer. Also an interesting point that they can’t shut down r/the_Donald, because it’d cut their ad revenue by almost half and would cause a massive rebellion of the assholes as they flood into other subreddits. Honestly, if you ever needed a sign that your company is bad and you should feel bad, this maybe is the sign.
Ends on a nice touch too, with moderators saying that the whole thing should be burned to the ground, and there’s no saving Reddit. Good! Let them go somewhere else. Wouldn’t solve the problem, but it’d sure feel good.

I kept him on the call for 15 minutes by pretending not to understand his instructions, have a very strange computer, and have a troublesome cat. Okay, the last one is true.
