So here’s a little silver lining: Remember how, before the election, some people were speculating that Trump’s whole candidacy was really just an attempt to build up an audience so that he could launch Trump TV after he inevitably lost?
Hell, this theory might have even been true. But after Trump’s surprise victory, Trump TV was off the table. At least for now.

The bad news is, network TV is now all Trump all the time.

Problem is, pretty much all TV is Trump TV now.
Would you believe that the only reason I’ve deliberately chosen to watch TV in the past few years was for Gravity Falls? (Though when my sis puts the relevant channels on, I’ve stuck around for bits of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil or Steven Universe.)
Perhaps this is for the best.
I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he tries to introduce state run propaganda TV. If he can’t get the “mainstream media” to propagandize for him my anyway.

I predicted that Trump TV would become a propaganda arm of the executive office if Trump won. I’m still not convinced that won’t happen. He’s gonna want to do something else when the rallies stop, and I can see an on-demand media service, or, like, twitchstreamthing, being his next stop.
I think the Trump win also prevented a rash of mass shootings and bombings from disappointed Trump supporters. So … yay?
The head of Breitbart, which has suddenly become a mainstream news organisation, will have an office in the White House.

There’s going to be a Trump TV. It’s just not going to have his name on it, because Bannon’s got him covered.
Well it’s not like the mainstream news channels are going to hammer him relentlessly in any meaningful way, if at all. For all they are worth they might as well be trump tv.

What Jema, Iseult, and Sinkable John said. My initial reaction on seeing the title of this post as a notification in my inbox was to think of the tagline Tom Green used for Freddy Got Fingered: “This time, you can’t change the channel.”
(My second reaction was to think of the passage in The Universe Next Door, the first Book One* of the late Robert Anton Wilson’s Schrödinger’s Cat trilogy, wherein Justin Case, a film-studies major serving in Vietnam, explains to his lawyer, Lt. Lionel Eacher**, that he led a mutiny of the troops under his command because he had aesthetic objections to the war. I can bore you with exact quotes on request.)

Hi everyone on WHTM! Sorry for posting somewhat OT, but I don’t remember when the last Open Thread has been active. Anyways – I’m sorry to say that I’ll have to take a break from the Internet, for my own well being. I’ve had issues with depression before, I’ve even been in hospital care for severe depression a couple of times. So, I’ve learned to note the early signs of a slump in my mental landscape and, well…things are looking rather bad now. I’m having trouble finding the motivation to get up in the morning. And, as sad as it is, reading about the crap that’s happening all over the world right now isn’t doing my mental state any good. So, I won’t be coming over here again anytime soon. I’ll try and see if I can make a contribution to the “Keep David’s cats fed” fund before the pledge drive ends, though.
