These are exciting times in the world of cinema. Mike “Juicebro” Cernovich’s new film long video Silenced — a documentary about a bunch of people who have not actually been silenced, as far as I can tell — has finally hit theaters Vimeo! And it’s getting rave reviews!
Well, technically I’m not quite sure if it is, because I’ve only seen one review, from Breitbart’s Milo Yiannopoulos, who also happens to be in the film, though for some reason this doesn’t count as COLLUSION and no one is making giant graphics featuring little red arrows pointing from Milo to Milo to show HOW DEEP THE CORRUPTION GOES.
Anyway, Milo liked the film, declaring it “great.” He said a lot of other things about the film, but, as I didn’t bother to actually read the review, you’ll have to find out what they are for yourself.
But I did notice one VERY IMPORTANT PARAGRAPH in which Milo set forth one of the reasons he, or whichever intern he got to write the piece (allegedly), think the film is so totally awesome.
Technically, the film is sufficient for its purpose. Almost all the interviews are static, tight shots, which do a good job showing expression and even at times emotion.
Did you hear that!!?/!
TECHNICALLY THE FILM IS SUFFICIENT FOR ITS PURPOSE.
That’s the line that’s going on the movie posters for sure.
Milo does have some mild criticisms of the film, though.
My biggest complaint is with the graphics, a staple of documentary films these days, which feel clunky. In most cases these take the form of a tablet or cell phone used to show headlines or streaming video, but I found them distracting. While I preferred the tight interview shots of Silenced to The Red Pill, the latter uses graphics much more effectively.
Apparently, Silenced and The Red Pill are the only two documentaries ever made. Who knew?
That bar couldn’t hang much lower if it was a hurdle at a pre-K track and field club.
That beautifully backhanded quote gave me a much-needed laugh, thank you.
And, of course, when every actual critic either pans or ignores this thing, he’ll just claim Silenced is being silenced. And his asshole fans will believe it unreservedly. Ugh…
LOL. I’m sure that’s the only problem with the film.
You guys! They show EMOTION! Why isn’t this thing nominated for an Oscar? Or something?
(Honestly, if that praise gets any fainter, it’ll pass out.)
This sounds like it could be the most important film since The Sarkeesian Effect.
Holy shit, Scott Adams is in the trailer:
God complex much?
@Terrabeau
That bar couldn’t hang much lower if it was for Earthworm Track & Field.
I just watched the trailer and my favourite bit was our good friend Scott Adams saying, “It was a little hard going from creator of a beloved cartoon to most hated person on the Internet.”
I must admit, I shed a tear. /s

eta: ninja’d by dlouwe! Ah well, at least I get ninja’d by the best 🙂
Trump is a Scott Adams character?…
… That makes a bizarre amount of sense.
Yes indeed, I will never forget the beautiful graphics in Jiro Dreams of Sushi. They were the highlight of the film and definitely the part that sticks with you after the film is over.
Only the Manosphere would use graphics telling their audience to turn on their phones while watching the movie.
Sorry, Scotty, but Violentacrez still has you beat.
“This piece technically meets the definition of a film, in that Cernovic did capture stuff on camera. He even managed to point the thing in something like the right direction most of the time. All in all, 10/10.”
Huh. Milo and Tcherno are two of the alt-right’s most “controversial” figures. Well, more like pariahs at this point, really.
But they’re still trying to capitalize on that association.
… whatever.
Good lord, they sound like robots trying to human.
In all seriousness, thank you for all that you (and the others that also contribute) do on this site. In light of things seeming to be fast speeding out of control within the US political system I sometimes feel like I’m one of the few looking for balanced, compassionate views that make sense. I think this site helps me to realize I’m not alone in my thoughts and feelings. Thank you so much for sticking it out and taking ignorance on they way that you do. 🙂
“The graphics were clunky“? What the fuck does that even mean Milo?
“Clunky” is not a word I’d use to describe graphics ever because it makes zero sense. “Clunky” are for things you actually use, like controls or tools.
“Heavy”, or “boxy” or “flat” would be a word I would use to describe graphics, you know, things you see with your eyeballs that you aren’t using with your hands.
Stop trying to co-opt gaming language, Milo. You’re not a gamer, no matter how many GGers pander to your sorry ass.
Did they ask Scott Adams about the Dilbert Principle, at all, considering that they’re amply demonstrating that they have reached their own level of incompetence?
Milo, your review reads like a barely adequate high school multimedia class assignment. Speaking of adequate, you spent too much time Googling “synonyms for good enough” and not enough time explaining exactly what was silenced. For crying out loud, your boss and biggest booster has the President-elect’s ear.
Milo is a capital-d Deplorable, but he and his interns usually muster up a lot more enthusiasm than I can detect in this…thing.
(‘Sup, everyone. Long time listener, first time caller.)
If a client said that the quality of my work was “sufficient for its purpose,” I would worry.
Despite tight deadlines and not-large-enough paychecks, I try to make my work stand out. I try to give the client a little extra for their money.
So if a client said that my work was just “sufficient,” I would have to rethink everything.
Oh my god, I forgot about that. And now he’s helped to promote the USA’s most incompetent “employee” to the top.
Scott Adams killed irony and looted its corpse.
“It was a collection of moving pictures in color, accompanied by sound.”
Epic.
@Mels
Oooh, did he get anything good?Bad D&Der! No level! For some reason in a game we played, we looted *everything*. I think the dm put a stop to it after we had taken the pants off the orcs we just fought, and pulled apart a barrel for the metal.
So now i inagine Scott Adams stealing irony’s pants. NO SCOTT PUT THOSE BACK! You are a hated man on the internet, after all! (Most? Ehhhh.)
I also love the description of the ‘static, tight shots’. That sounds AWFUL. I know documentary film making is a different beast than other types of films, but you need variety.
I guess if you have a bar of the sarkeesian effect where things are awkwardly in the frame, anything even vaguely composed will look really good.
As someone who did film at uni, I would describe a film like that if I was trying to pan it without obviously looking like I hated it. But I’d be confident from that review that no one would go to it.
“…even at times emotion.”
