I hope all the people who voted for third party candidates because they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Clinton despite knowing perfectly well how much worse Trump is are properly regretful and ashamed now.

They actually deserve what’s about to happen to them. Worldwide depression, war, threat of nuclear holocaust. They asked for it. Too bad they dragged all the rest of us into this mess along with them.

I don’t know where you are but there are people out there who can help you find a job and an employment gap is not a career ender. I recently interviewed someone with a big gap and didn’t even question it (my teammate did and the candidate explained it and we moved on, no impact at all on the consideration and actually for me a bit of a plus on team fit because of their reason given). Here’s a resource for help with technical interviews (they focus on helping women and are located in the Seattle area, not sure what your situation and location is): http://www.kalacademy.org

I can help you with other resources if you need help finding assistance for the things you need. If it comes down to ACA going away there will still be something. Even before ACA you would have likely qualified for Medicaid because of your employment status. There’s still help for you, it’s not gone yet, and if Trump manages to take it away we’ll fight back. It’s not over yet. He hasn’t won yet. We won’t give up and we are here for you.

I had two drinks last night and ended up lying on the bed with my husband holding me screaming “DO THEY HATE US THAT MUCH?” (referring to the woman thing, ya know). Think I may have been officially drunk. Don’t see the point. Didn’t help. Was still deeply upset but also couldn’t walk without tripping, also was lightheaded.
Also, I apologize to my neighbors for randomly screaming “FUCK!” throughout the night, but as I live in Massachusetts most of them probably agreed with me.
Also, FUCK.

I’m not gonna give the entitled manbabies and anime nazi edgelords the satisfaction of thinking I’m devastated by this, or now afraid to voice my opinions. Instead I’m just disappointed and ashamed, DEEPLY ashamed of my country. But I’m still not really worried.
For one, the deplorables among his supporters only feel empowered when they can convince themselves they are being oppressed. With their candidate winning, by being part of the majority, they can no longer feel oppressed, they can no longer blame others for their problems, it’s possible that they’ll only grow weak and quiet from this.
It could also mean that the edgelords will all jump ship, because it doesn’t make you cool to be part of what is now officially “the establishment”. In fact I joked earlier that Milo will immediately become a hardcore liberal now because it’s the only way he’ll be able to feel like a cool outsider.
And lastly, presidential approval ratings always drop, and his are already starting low. The deplorables may feel a surge of empowerment at first, but when their lives don’t drastically improve overnight, they can become disillusioned and turn against him.
I don’t want to be like the manbabies and consider every loss a secret victory, that is certainly not what I’m doing here because I think this is a lose for america either way, but what I am saying is that this could be an end to the very groups who think this IS a victory for them.

This is a bad day for the US, but also for the world. I have tried not to engage as it was not my countries election, but inevitably have seen a lot without even trying. It all makes me quite scared. Trump is such an extremist, and over the top racist misogynist, and yet is deemed fit to be POTUS. It beggars belief.

The super rich, as usual, are going to do even better out of this. For the middle class down it is bad bad news.

I am very sorry for the poor of the US now more than ever. There are even worse times ahead.

I suppose the thin consolation is that this is now the death-knell of the GOP. Those who were conservative Republicans, however much I disagreed with them, were equally horrified by Trump.

A loss, the party could have taken. A win, giving power to its worst elements, no. It will now slowly die over the next four years, without dignity or kindness.

This just shows again how it’s dangerous to dismiss bizarre and hateful people/movements as ”lol what a buffoon, won’t get anywhere, just laugh for a bit”.

Now you’ve got TRUMP elected for president, the embodiment of 4Chan, the worst of Reddit and similar shit tanks, together with the religious Republican fundamentalist Mike Pence.

(and the Republicans are probably going to love this, now they have free reign, well, sort of)

It also shows that certain people/right-wingers are right about 1 thing: news media are out of touch with the people, as they got all their predictions wrong.

But wow, my condolences. This is horrible.

As an American, I apologize to everyone else on the planet. I woke up screaming from a nightmare around 2 AM…couldn’t get back to sleep. The tranquilizer I took at midnight, didn’t help much. I guess.

I live in Pennsylvania…I’m shocked it went to Trump. I’m in my late forties. I’m fortunate enough to have a good, secure job.

Anybody…how can I fight this incipient fascism? I’ve thought about teaching illiterate adults how to read. It seems like it would be satisfying work…I really believe Trump’s win is due at least in part to a lack of education among Americans.

Well, I for one am (not) looking forward to the level of shitlord gloating that’s sure to come over the next few weeks.

I read the blog a lot but mostly just lurk so most of you probably don’t know me. But I want to thank everyone who voted and who hangs out here for sharing my feelings tonight, and also thank David for providing this space and writing this blog.

Like a lot of people I suspect I didn’t take Trump seriously at first. Kinda like, “Ha ha, Donald Trump is running for president as a sequel to The Apprentice.” When David wrote about him it opened my eyes and I grew alarmed, and then worried. I live in a deep red state but I voted anyway knowing I was outnumbered, but I still didn’t think he would win. Surely the people outside the hardcore right-wing nut jobs wouldn’t be fooled by the propaganda and lies, I thought. And here we are. Either the American people really are as stupid as H.L. Mecken thought or there are a lot more of the RWNJs than I thought.

All I can say is I hope things turn out better than the projections make out, and I want to stand with those who are already marginalized.

I fell asleep on the couch last night, and woke up to see that NC, WI and FL had all gone to Trump. Went to bed very worried and had a terrible dream that Trump won.

Woke up to see that my nightmare was reality.

I don’t want to be awake in this world. I want to go back to bed and not get up again. I don’t think it’s too apocalyptic to say that this is the day civilization died. Trump will roll back Obama’s tepid actions on climate change, and at best he will do nothing to stop climate change’s climb toward the death of civilization. At worst he will actively encourage it along. Can the world take 4 more years of that? I doubt it.

The Earth will continue, wounded, and eventually recover and we will have another Carboniferous age or something, but if humans see it they won’t be living in any kind of recognizable state.

In the US we will have a horrible social situation until that happens, but ultimately none of that will matter. It will literally be like the tribulation before the second coming, except that the second coming is the second coming of the giant dragonflies or whatever.

Normally, I am very lucky in that I don’t have a problem sleeping. But last night I could not get my brain to stop fretting over this election to let me sleep until sometime after 1:30am. And then I woke up at 5:10am and had all my frettings justified. We lost. I am still mostly numb. I worry the anger and true grief is going to come later. Probably at work if I know my luck.

Part of me hopes I can nap before work, but part of me knows I’m unlikely to be able to get my brain to shut up enough for that. It’ll be a day for red bull. Or energy shots. Either way, I’ve still got to work.

At some point I’ll be able to deal with the wider implications of all of this. Right now, my focus is (perhaps selfishly) just on me getting through the day.

I am so godsdamned sorry. I thought that Brexit was going to be the biggest domestic political clusterfuck of the year.

You just had to outshine us again, huh.

But ha, maybe we still win the clusterfuck crown – the USA is shot in the head for a 4-year term; we’ve done it possibly permanently! /cold comfort, very cold comfort, no damn comfort at all really/

(semi x-posted from Pharyngula; I have to work a lot today to meet a deadline so Imma come back and read this whole thread later. Absolutely gutted for you all and for us too. I am truly sorry, so sorry)

It will be interesting to watch Trump flounder under the hate and dissatisfaction of his followers. There is no way he can do even 1/10 of the things he promised. It is politically and fiscally impossible. They will turn on him like a pack of raving wolves when he doesn’t build the wall or deport half of our immigrants, or start letting police indiscriminately harass and assault Muslims, Blacks or women.
The thing I am having the most difficulty with is that women and POC voted for him. If it was just white men afraid of losing their power, I could get it, but when people vote against their own interests, I’m always reminded that maybe democracy doesn’t work because Americans have proven they are too emotionally reactive and uneducated to vote in a way that helps them. Republicans know this as poor people love Republicans who care only for the rich.
I’m angry, and ranting, but I just cannot fathom how something so horrible happened except that hate and fear really are the tools of the uneducated and bored.

My thoughts go out to you and your girlfriend. I hope things go well and she recovers. I know a lot of gay and trans people who are panicking right now. I’ve also heard on social media that the suicide hotlines are being deluged with calls. Just know that you’re not alone and there are sane, reasonable people in this country who support you both.

I fell asleep early, woke at 2 to pee and of course checked the headlines… 2 hours later I can start to think again.

@Anisky, @Lux and all those in despair
Oh yes, it sucks. Sucks to be surrounded by the hate that motivated the Trumpians, sucks to be facing his dystopian future. Sucks to have been so wrong, frankly. If we can be wrong about this, what other horrors might we be discounting? It’s gonna get weirder, for sure. People we love will be less safe.

There have been dark days before – darker than this. (When I was 7, I watched my dad build a bomb shelter in the basement. I knew enough even then to know it was not going to save us if Cuba sent a bomb.)

All you have to do today is breathe, drink water. Keep breathing. (If those bastards would prefer you dead, that is reason enough to draw another breath.) Keep the lights on. We love you.
