@LindsayIrene is this guy for real? And one woman in the comments insisting that the people are being bussed to multiple polls so they can vote more than once. Something tells me the bus has people from one congregation who are spread out geographically and making stops so each group can get to their poll, and these racist jerks can’t tell black people apart so they say the same group gets out at every polling station to vote. Their van should run over some legos and get a flat.
@Moggie
Listen, Trump, I have a mildly irritating cold I am getting over and I don’t need your terrible shit.
But, like, question: If that counts as looking at someone’s ballot, would Melania’s ballot be destroyed? And can we just destroy Donald’s instead?
@weirwoodtreehugger: communist bonobo
Unless something has changed the last time I checked, nobody is including early voting results in their predictions. There are several reasons why 538 is more uncertain than other aggregators:
1. Historically, high numbers of uncertain voters have lead to more polling errors. By incorporating historical data, Silver’s model includes this; others that look only at the current crop of polls cannot.
2. Nearby states tend to behave similarly; an unexpected Trump surge in one states correlates with an uptick in Trump support in neighboring states. Silver’s model includes this, others don’t.
3. It’s actually quite common to have the polls be 3 percentage points off of the election results, as they were in the elections of 2012, 2000, 1996, and even the 2014 midterms. Silver’s model accounts for this, others don’t.
An aggregator is only as good as the assumptions that go into it. If Silver’s is out in left field on some of these, the results will be more predictable than his model suggests.
Hi. I’ve been a reader for a while, but this is the first time I’m commenting. Just wanted to say (because I bet I know who my state is going for), that I voted in Alabama and I’m with her.
If nothing else, after today there won’t be any more of the constant barrage of election ads and reminders to vote. I voted 12 days ago, so I’m getting more than a little tired of that.
Thanks Fishy Goat and Scildfreja. And David and all the regulars here who are a much-needed anchor of reason in sexist chaos.
I’m actually afraid of the uptick in misogynist expression after (Cthulhu willing) Clinton wins…but one battle at a time. I’m just glad WHTM and/or other feminist sites will be here to push back.
@Allan, my stepdad tells me to “vote early and often!” every single election and then he laughs uproariously, terribly pleased with himself and his dad jokes. I never knew where he had pilfered that from, until now!
(FTR you remind me of my stepdad quite regularly, and as he’s one of the best and most brilliant people I’ve ever had the privilege to have in my life, I hope you’ll take that as a compliment.)
I got up an hour early this morning to vote before work and wound up not needing anywhere near that much. We are a very white county, so of course we have plenty of polling stations.
@Diptych
Sorry, I voted for the Liberation of Night ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Will this work?
Anyway, if it’s a troll it’s masterful. (I can’t just inline the image for some reason.)
Absolutely. It doesn’t seem like it, but it will. And we will fight like rabid dogs for every inch closer to a just society. And we will lose 3/4ths of that gain every time we stop for breath. But when we keep up the struggle, it gets better.
“Links in the Chain”, Tom Paxton, Kate Wolf. (The audio’s not the best)

I think there’s more than your choice of presidential candidate preventing you from getting laid, dude.
UK person checking in. Gonna try and make it an allnighter, won’t be constantly refreshing this page for news, but I decided to replay Red Dead Redemption so I’ll probably check in here everytime I need to go make a brew.
Of course with my meds I might just slump forwards at around 0400 GMT and wake up to find the apocalypse starting. But I hope for good news for the sake of everyone and also yes, to make Trump sad.
I wish I could, David, but I’m sitting pretty in Europe, I’m afraid. Please vote Clinton into office, USA. Please. Trump is such bad fucking news.
@ Nequam: That’s beautiful.
HJ Hornbeck,
I was sneakily commenting at work and didn’t properly clarify. I was thinking of the articles on the site not the actual poll aggregates.
As an American, I want to say thank you to all the not-Americans on this blog for putting up with our sorry excuse of an election this year.
@Nequam
I Can’t Believe That Women Don’t Want to Date a Trump Supporter! Or Shinrare in short.
Good luck USA! Am nervously watching from Australia, because the last thing we want is to embolden the Trumpsters over here and because you guys deserve so much better.
@Dreamer:
What state did you see that in? Because I’ve been at the polls all day and haven’t seen hide nor hair or such a thing.
Could be a private group doing that to their own members, for some odd reason.
I would like to vote, but….
….
….
Okay, dirty truth: I’m not old enough to. I’m in an early uni program, one of two in this state. I wish I could do more, but instead I’m at my desk eating Tuna Helper.

@ viscaria
That’s so sweet; I’m very flattered. Thank you.
(Does your stepdad have a stock of terrible jokes about weasels?)
@ Troubelle;
“They also serve who only … sit and eat… Tuna Helper”
🙂
I voted a week ago.
This is normal social intensity for me. When it’s over everything will feel the same. Elections are strange to me that way all this concentrated talk of things that are just as important the rest of the time. Ya’ll are strange but I like you anyway.
Back to mental health and kiddos.
@ Weird (milo stahp) Eddie
….I do not understand the reference. I apologize.
