Damn I can’t edit or delete my comment now. I can’t find anything on what she was talking about that isn’t at least a day old. She reads a lot of facebook bs articles, so it could be it was some bunk thing and I made an assumption before looking in to it further. So sorry, false alarm.

That aside, though, doesn’t change the fact that she was still proud of a vote for Trump possibly hurting the economy. Personally I’m more worried about the social issues and everyone afraid if they will even be able to live in the US anymore or not, so hope it doesn’t sound like I care about the economy more than people. Just more like it was her first taste of ‘evidence’ this was a bad decision, but was still happy about it, was my point.

Soo… anyone have any experiences with homemade Earthboxes, then? I have never been more unhappy with my “black thumb.” The inability to grow my own food could very well be very, very bad…

So question, what’s scarier, trump as president or the idea that pence could become president if the republican party chooses to impeach trump for any of his crimes?
Edit: I mean pence is obviously going to be the puppet master no matter what, so I don’t know, sorry

@littletaeo

yeah, financial markets overseas are taking a hit. It’s bad news all around. I feel a little hypocritical saying stay safe, because I don’t feel that way.

Sorry about your mom. Mine voted for him, but she’s quiet about it–‘taxes’, ‘those democrats raise your taxes’. Tomorrow will be dreadful. Or, I guess, later today.

@Aunt Podger

You said you’re in the same ‘misery’ I’m in. Nothing’s growing now. I’ve got some kale left, but….I don’t really know anything about Earthboxes. is it a gimmick?

Shit. Just… shit.
As an Australian watching from the outside, I encourage all of you sane people in the US to keep fighting to make things better for everybody. This is one hell of a step backwards, but we sure as hell can’t let this stop us.
The only thing I’m really dreading is the alt-right dickholes taking this as some kind of validation for their bigoted fearmongering bullshit.

America disgusts me. I thought it was bad but the fact this fucker is winner makes my blood boil. People want to complain and organise marches now? Bit fucking late lads. The last cow has come home, chickens have gone to roost and the hatred, racism and sexism has won.

And of course it’s validation for those alt rights fuckers, their god won ???

Absolutely saddened, sickened and angered to wake up to this news in the UK.

I’m generally an optimistic person, but this year has kicked the shit out of that to a bad degree, and with majorities in all branches of government there is almost no stopping Donald from going ahead with his deportation plan, which will artifically create the biggest refugee crisis in the world, no action and even regression on the environmental crisis, nuclear weapons likely to be deployed….

This has the be the wake up call for the progressives of the world, we do nothing and evil wins. And of course, we’ll continue to do nothing until they are beating down our doors.

I wonder if Minnesota, and the other blue states that border Canada (or each other), should consider joining Canada. With half “his” country gone, Trump wouldn’t be able to do as much damage. And a new super-Canada would have one of the world’s largest economies, especially if California joined along with WA, NV and OR. Heck, throw in Alaska too. It’s a red state but it has a strong libertarian/independent streak. It’s a better fit for Canada than Trump’s America. Puerto Rico would want in, too. If French-speaking Quebec can be part of Canada, so could PR.

@Overly Long Name:

Pence is worse, as a general thing, because he’s nearly as bad and far more competent. But with Trump, there’s a small chance of nuking some other country or causing an international incident which turns most of the world against the US. So it’s kind of a toss-up, slightly favoring Trump because the worst-case scenario is just that terrible.

Edit: I’m not so sure that Pence would be a puppetmaster. He’ll do the drudge work, sure, but trying to control Trump… I don’t quite see that working. He’s a loose cannon, to put it mildly.

Since I am white and straight I know there are people with issues bigger than mine, but as someone who is single and self-employed I hope I don’t lose my healthcare. I really don’t want to go back to what we had before. Why anyone who is a small business owner or self-employed would vote for Trump is beyond me.

Personally, I’m hoping the Republican factions spend so much time and effort fighting each other that it limits the damage they can do as a whole.

What a huge clusterfuck the next four years are going to be.

I did the only thing I can think to do now that trump has basically won,
I have a sword rack on my bed room wall it holds two swords,
I replaced the cheap stainless steel swords that were there with my high end cutting blades,
come kristallnacht I might just survive or at least take a brown shirt with me.

(A little background I have a second degree black belt in Toyama-ryu,
and I know its probably nothing but my anxiety and paranoia are pretty high and having them in reach is going to help me sleep tonight.)

Ugh, another recession. And me in a company that mostly deals with hospitality (my training and experience are in accounting, logistics, and technical writing… how that’s not the mathematics branch of STEM is beyond me, but I’m sure the MGTOW’s have a Reason.) I hate looking for jobs. I just hope it doesn’t get worse than that.

ETA: and called. President Trump. Good fucking night, and the password to join the resistance had better be something less crackable than “swordfish.”

Let’s be real here: hate won. Trump supporters don’t care about domestic or foreign policy, they don’t really care about economics or national security. All they care about is going back to a time when they didn’t have to be ‘PC’. And by now we all know that means being able to express their racism and sexism openly without fear of criticism. There is a reason why Trump’s supporter base is largely made up of white males and the uneducated.

You think it’s gonna be bad for you? This is nothing, it’s just the beginning of the bad times. The Republicans have the house and the senate AND they will most likely be able to help install at least 2 conservative (ultra right wing) supreme court justices. They’re going to try and pass every single evil right wing scheme they’ve been dreaming up for the last 30 years. The effects will be felt for an incredibly long time. It’s gonna be bad people, real bad.

Hugs to my USian and non-USian friends. Everybody stay safe, those in America remember you have allies outside of the States, and lets all keep fighting against this retrograde bullshit, to the extent that we have sufficient spoons and it is safe to do so.

Yeah, my mom was always on about dems and taxes too. “They just want money and to rip off us poor people” as if Donald Friggin Trump isn’t the type of person to step on little people (as he so far has unfortunately done a SPLENDID job of stepping on many, already.)

I guess I was in denial about how this whole thing would go. “People always do what they think is right. Even if my mom has a different opinion, in her heart she is doing this because her belief system thinks it’s right, not because she doesn’t care.” Or, “Clinton will win because people aren’t this uncaring.” But I was SO wrong. Fuck that. And fuck the fact I thought “She cares deep down and is just misinformed.” Apparently that was BS hope/denial since her basically saying “haha, things getting fucked up is proof I was right!” is basically the opposite of being a caring (or even rational) person. Like she looked absoloutley HAPPY and EXCITED about the bad news! How does that make sense to be happy about?

I actually had to cry for a few minutes thinking about how wrong I was that people would make the right choice.

I really REALLY REALLY had SOOOO much faith in America, I am seriously in shock, I never thought this would happen in a million years. And I’m scared for how this is going to negatively effect everyone and that’s not fair. This isn’t progress, this is the opposite. This is going to hurt people and that makes me sad for them

Hi. I think I just woke up to the start of the apocalypse. I freely admit that I hoped for Clinton to win mostly out of blatant self-interest. I remember 8 years of being vaguely terrified anytime I heard about George W Bush on the news. It was too much to hope for that the US would elect a woman, even a white one, right after a black man, wasn’t it?

I wish I could say come to Europe, but we’re dealing (badly; my country’s pretty much closed our borders to everybody) with a refugee crisis over here, and we sure as fuck can’t handle another.

I’m sorry. It doesn’t help. It doesn’t change anything. But I feel like someone should apologize. It might as well be me.

What…

…what…

I must be dreaming. I suspected the bugs in the ozoni soup for New Year 2016 may be a sign of a bad year but I didn’t think it would go this badly.

Um…on the bright side…if the country falls apart because of Trump, maybe Hawaii will get to be its own country again?

……..

Fuck this government. The absolute worst man is still preferable to a competent woman. So much for believing there will be enough people doing the right thing.

Oh fuck it’s official.

EJ (The Orphic Lizard)

We’re in shock now. Everyone’s in shock. There are probably millions of right-wing people in the early stages of what will soon become sobbing Buyer’s Remorse as they realise what they’ve done. (Fuck them. I have no sympathy. Everyone else has to sleep in the bed you made, so you’re damn well going to as well.)

The Left needs to restrain its natural urge right now, which is to cannibalise. There’s going to be a lot of recriminations. The Berniebros are going to be shouting, the hard Left is going to be ranting, and the moderates are going to be equivocating. Everyone is going to be convinced that it was other lefties who let them down. We are going to be a leaderless mob.

The very first thing we need to do is to stop being a leaderless mob. I don’t care who the leader will be, but we need unity. I’m a Clinton supporter and will continue to be, but if the Bernie people get their shit together first, then we need to march under their banner. If Dalillama or Virgin Mary’s people get their shit together first, we need to march under their banner. I don’t care who you are or why you opposed Trump, but right now we need to pull together. If the devil himself rises from Hell and dons a blue ribbon, I shall march under his banners and I hope to see you there too. This doesn’t mean that we should paper over internal assholery, but it does mean that for the next four years, refusing to work with people or playing the more-ideologically-pure-than-thou game is unacceptable.

Everyone who’s going to catch hell, my deepest support is with you. You are the people we fight for. Every day that you continue to exist is a slap in the face of everyone who hates you, and an inspiration to everyone who loves you. If all you can do is continue to exist, that’s the greatest victory anyone can ask.

Everyone else, especially those who have more privilege, we need to pull together. The American Left will live or die in the next four years, and the Left in other countries needs to do whatever we can to support them.

Is this really happening? It wasn’t just my depression getting the best of me? The world really is going to hell in a handbasket and there’s nothing we can do about it?

After we elected our shitty government, I thought it was just us. Yeah, the extreme right had been on the rise for years everywhere in Europe, but I still saw slivers of common sense and human decency in other countries. During the Brexit disaster, I had come to realize that the entire Europe is full of racist shitheads with no qualms about letting people die and even outright killing them, but with Obama still in power in the US and Trump being treated largely as nothing but a joke, a scary and topical joke, but a joke nonetheless, I felt relief that at least USA could still send a message: we will not let fear and hate rule us, we will never go back to the dark times that people before us have fought so hard to push aside, we believe in humanity and solidarity.

And now we have Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America. Fuck this.

There is still hope; a slim hope, but a hope nevertheless, that after Trump causes the disasters that he inevitably will for being an incompetent, uneducated nincompoop who has achieved his position with nothing but speaking to the lowest common denominator, people will realize what a terrible mistake they’ve made. But by then, it will be too little, too late.

My biggest concern, as others have stated to be theirs as well, is that the extreme right will take this as validation that their hateful philosophy is now acceptable. I predict a drastic increase in hate crimes. People are… are going to get hurt, aren’t they? That’s too steep a price to pay for selfish, privileged, reality-disconnected assholes to learn their lesson. They are the ones who should suffer and die for their foolishness, not minorities. Not those who can’t fight back. Not those who did their best and deserved so much more.

I am sorry for all you Americans who wanted better things for your country. Hugs to all Mammotheers in the USA who need them right now. Keep fighting the good fight, or, if you can’t, find a place where you can hide and stay safe.

Except, as WWTH said, everyone who voted for Trump. They are contemptible and deserve no sympathy at any point in the future. “I didn’t realize…” is not and will never be an adequate excuse for ignorance and being complicit in things that hurt other people. Trump voters, each and every single person who gets hurt because of the policies put forth by Trump and his congress, every victim of hate crimes committed by emboldened racists and white supremacists, the blood is on your hands and will never ever wash off. I wish I had Ghost Rider’s power set and could make every single one of you feel the pain you’ve caused and will cause other people. You’re disgusting.

Am I just being overtly melodramatic? Like Handsome “Punkle Stan” Jack, I hope so. Oh, god, I hope so. So, so much. I’m crying and I’m so sick of living on this planet.

@Scildfreja Unnýðnes

Thank you for your words. I hope you are right.

@Yossherian

No, not Polish, this kind of shit is apparently way too common in Europe right now. I couldn’t believe it when the abortion ban shitcussion cropped up in your country. Like, what the fuck? Are we living in some bizarro version of the dark ages right now? Hugs to you and yours in any case! And welcome to WHTM!

I want to hang around here more now than I have in recent times, because this is one of the best communities I’ve ever been a part of and I need to be around decent people after lately dealing with so many assholes IRL, no matter how awful the subject matters here tend to get. It’s been snowing for a few days where I live, but the world seems like it just got still a little bit colder and I need a place where I can come and cozy up with kittens and hot cocoa while listening to awesome people discussing various interesting topics.

Oh so it’s not rigged anymore? /venomous sarcasm

Either result would have made me worry about hate groups, especially those snakes in suits who influence politicians. I’ve joked about passing myself off as a different, less terrorist-y ethnicity. I’ve mostly eye-rolled apocalyptic predictions (the president isn’t a dictator after all). But I’m actually worried; it’s scary. I think about Trump’s beliefs, personality, and behavior and I’m disgusted and embarrassed.

This is shameful.

I know that Trump supporters would have felt exactly the same way, but it feels like a slap in the face. It’s depressing.

Activism and compassion are needed. Need to take a leaf out of our brothers and sisters at Standing Rock’s book.

Also, I feel bad for Hillary Clinton as a person. You just know she wanted this like more than anything in life. To lose to Obama, okay. But to this guy?

Also, I have this feeling that some GOP peeps are waiting for Trump to be impeached so the more acceptable conservative VP can take his place.
