I haven’t read all the comments yet, but I’m gonna comment anyway.

@Lux
I’m so glad your girlfriend is okay. That’s an extremely stressful situation. Be sure to take very good care of yourself! All best wishes to both of you.

*********************

And all best wishes to everyone else. We’re all suffering now and trying to make sense of a very unpleasant shock.

My boyfriend was unintentionally funny about the situation. We live in San Francisco. He said to me today, “Did you know that 10 percent of San Franciscans went for Trump?” Like that was an unimaginably high number.

I was all, Dude, that’s not that many! We’ve certainly got some uber-capitalists living here. So 90 percent didn’t vote for Trump? When I was in school, I was happy with 90 percent. That’s an A!

Caution: San Francisco is lovely but expensive. But if you’re in the tech industry, you might do very well here.

@Overly long name

Hey I have a dumb question, what do I do when I feel doubt creeping in and feel like the bigots and people full of hatred could be right?

That’s okay. You don’t need to take every thought seriously.

Tune into your feelings instead. What do they tell you about the right thing to do?

@Weird Eddie

Reminds me of what happened to the white men in the anti-Viet Nam war movement the instant the draft ended.

I remember that too. I was shocked. Good times!

Did they all just stop protesting the war and started endorsing it?

@Handsome Jack
Oh no, not at all. But they lost interest in confronting the powers that be.

The USA signaled that there would be an end to the war in late 1972. The draft ended in early 1973. We finally pulled out of the country in mid-1975. It was heart-wrenching. Those South Vietnamese who had cooperated with the USA were desperate to get onto helicopters and get the eff out of there.

Once the USA signaled that we would pull out, much of the energy of the New Left fizzled. Many white draft resisters were no longer interested in civil rights for POC or an alternative to capitalism. And they had never been interested in women’s rights. Never, never, not ever.

The struggle for civil rights did continue. And women’s liberation went full speed ahead. We didn’t need those guys. But the strength of the women’s movement did diminish once Reagan came to power.

This is my subjective take on the waxing and waning of progressive politics in the USA.

@Kat

That was actually my first guess but I figured since you were shocked, it might actually have been something very nonsensical and more damaging, relatively.

But, nope, it was the first thing I thought it would be because white people are the devil.

Mm, no, htintin. Clinton got nearly three million more votes than Trump. Trump only won because most states allocate their electoral votes in a winner-take-all manner. Thanks for playing!

@htintin
Except Clinton has a lead of 3 million more votes than Trump, who only won because of lousy electoral system that favors a select few states’ majority.

You could always brush up on grammar, syntax, and math.

But I don’t know what would help a troll break the habit of spreading disinformation.
