Four days left to election day. Today’s cover version of The Final Countdown is METAL AS HELL, if by “metal” you mean “the lead guitarist apparently thinks he’s so cool he doesn’t have to hit any of the notes at the correct time.”
Today’s bonus video: Nicolas Cage goes for a short drive.
@Luxbelitx: OMG Dilma is such a cutie! They still have their kitten fuzz, so adorable.
Nearly 0230 here in the UK, got horrendous flu and can’t lie down without things going badly wronger inside me. Luckily there is plenty of back catalogue here to keep me busy through a sleepless night.
@Vicki + Jesalin + varalys
Wishing y’all the best <3
@Mish
Former fan as well. By former, I mean 2009-10ish. Unfortunately, wikileaks has been like this forever. It's like that person you thought was cool starts acting an ass. Was probably that way the whole time
Also, and I include myself with this, were we more willing to accept earlier shittery (the Manning leaks, while less shit than what's going on now, were still suspect af), since they went after the Bush admin? I admit I was, and that don't make me feel too good 🙁
ETA: didn’t mean that to come off as teasing. I just wanted to wallow for a sec. We need whistleblowers, and whistleblowers need allies. I backed the wrong horse…
@Axe: we make mistakes, we try to learn from them. That’s sort of the way life works.
@varalys
Hope you feel better soon!
@Axe
Thanks!
Thanks for the best wishes peeps. Taking Night Nurse on top of my other meds has me practically seeing unicorns lol. But it’s relieving my chest so I don’t care!
While cleaning up the dinner dishes, I heard the strangest interview on NPR with Glenn Beck. I’m not able to find a link to the actual show, all I could find was a headline that it was “the worst interview of his career.”
oh…Here’s the show, I think http://www.wnyc.org/shows/otm/ (at least it is today)
It’s in the latter part of the hour. He’s so whiny. He hates Trump, he hates Clinton. He wants to redeem himself?
At one point, he tells the host, “You are so jaded that you cannot imagine that someone is doing it because they believe it.”
Claims he’s personally saving Syrian refugees, warning against the Alt-right, Breitbart crowd.
It was very surreal. He cuts it off, complaining that it isn’t fair.
@GrumpyOld SocialJusticeMangina
Aw, that’s adorable. Bet you felt really special!
It’s a well-known fact that there’s only one of you – one guy with a large collection of masks and costumes 😀
@VP, @Jesalin – please keep us posted to the extent that you want to!
sorry for yet another comment – for some raisin (or sultana), the thread isn’t refreshing and I’m not seeing new comments until ages after they’ve been posted… 🙁
@ varalys, take care & yes Luxbelitz’s kitty is GORGEOUS
@Axe, all good. I was feeling a tad sulky from last time I posted about WL. It’s also extremely … tense here atm. Understandably so.
@Victorious Parasol
If you don’t mind me asking, is the woman in your gravatar supposed to be anyone in particular? She seems really familiar to me, and it’s bugging me that I can’t place it. (The closest guess I can think of is Josephine Montilyet from Dragon Age Inquisition, but I don’t think that’s correct)
Anyway, I hope your MRI comes back clean, and your recovery continues to do well.
I did early voting a week ago. Right after that, the political mail ads started flooding in. Seems like a huge waste of paper.
Since I’m in a safe-dem district in a safe-dem state, I generally vote third-party, especially when they better suit my political preferences. This year, though, I don’t really care for Stein or Johnson, so Hillary it is by default. I did vote third-party on some of the state and local races, though.
I did briefly consider a McMullin write-in as a middle finger to politics in general, and for no other reason. But quickly came to my senses.
@Mish: What’s even funnier is that before Vinczer decided I was our David, he though I was a lesbian radical feminist who occasionally posts here as House Mouse Queen and runs her own blog where men are not allowed to post.
As it is a well-known fact (or at least was a year or two ago) that David is actually a group of ferrets in a cat suit, if I am in fact the only male pro-feminist then obviously I am David and therefore a group of ferrets in a cat suit, which is sort of a bewildering thought.
@GrumpyOld SocialJusticeMangina,
When I finished laughing I went looking for a picture of ferrets in a cat suit (anything to procrastinate). I was unsuccessful, but I offer this:

@Tovius
It’s an original character designed for me by a friend of mine. I liked this particular portrait so much, I decided to use it as an avatar wherever I could.
@Tovius @Victorious Parasol
Naw, She doesn’t have nearly enough ruffles for Josephine 🙂
But it looks awesome! Thank you for sharing the story.
@calmdown and Tovius
Thank you! And thanks for the best wishes.
Just when I thought this election couldn’t get any crazier.

This is one of those things we all know is possible, but just never happens. I remember being taught that electors faced jail time if they voted against the populace, which I always thought was ridiculous, so I’m glad that’s not the case, but that fine doesn’t sound like much of a deterrent. It wouldn’t be difficult for this guy or others like him to raise the funds needed to pay it.
@kupo
The penalty for not following the rules as an elector varies from state to state. In many states, it is a contract between the party and the elector, and thus a financial penalty is the only deterrent. Other states mandate legally that the elector votes for the winner, the penalty being variable. It goes about half/half state/party. So you may have been told a true story for whatever state you were discussing at the time.
@PoM
It was in Washington, same state as this article.
@kupo’s article
“She’s terrible! Why, she’s just as bad as Trump! That’s why I’m voting for Trump.” BSABers have all the logic of a dented can of soup.
@SFHC
To be fair, he’s also not going to vote Trump.
@Mish
OMG! They are SO cute!!! I’ve never had ferrets, but I’m hoping that someday I will.
I am amused by the implication that he thinks that Donald Trump would be eager to help Native Americans with their issues.
@Victorious Parasol
Thanks for sharing. It’s an awesome piece of art!
Pre-primary polls show that most “very conservative” voters care mostly about immigration and terrorism, which are issues mainstream conservatives would rather not focus on. Everyone knows the Obama administration did a good job preventing terrorist attacks and many conservatives don’t view illegal immigration as much of a problem. They’d rather drop anti-immigration rhetoric and try to appeal to Hispanic voters. The RNC even officially apologized for the Southern Strategy a few years ago. Trump won the primaries because the GOP voter base is mostly driven by racism and less by conservative ideology.
A few people on the far left who supported Sanders say that Trump and Clinton are both equally bad, but various far left groups have been making that argument in every presidential election since the 1970’s. Pretty much everyone on the left now backs Clinton, though.
