7 Days: The Final (Election) Countdown Video Party

Just one more week. Seven days. (Well, technically, six and a half.)

To help make the waiting less excruciating, I will be posting videos of the worst cover versions of “The Final Countdown” I can find, one a day, until the big day. I don’t care if you’ve seen these before. I’m still going to post them.

Plus bonus videos. Today’s bonus video involves bear simulation.

I’m glad this site exists because if I was to rely on the BBC Online news service, well when I pull down my list of stories, the first US election one is off the bottom of the screen while Lord Heseltine admitting to NOT killing his mothers dog in 1964 is item six. -_-

Oh lord, Richard Cheese. What have you done?? *disappears down the YouTube black hole*

Here’s a cover I enjoy, because I love love love love LOVE Dax Riggs. It’s “Heartbreak Hotel” if said hotel was the Hotel Cortez.

It’s dark and creepy, is what I’m saying.

The news media have a vested interest in making it appear like the race is close. Both newspapers and TV news are doing less well thanks to blogs and social media and a closer race usually translates into more attention paid to news. Trump still has the same problems he’s had since the beginning of the election cycle. He’s very unpopular with women and minority groups. White evangelicals dislike him and many are voting for Clinton (the more moderate evangelicals, at least) or Gary Johnson, which might give Clinton more of a lead in states like Michigan and Colorado.

The sooner New Media becomes just “Media” in general the better.

I’d prefer it like to be honest. It is the ‘British Broadcasting Corporation’ after all, and they have constant coverage of the election usually already.

I like 538s “snake graph” (probably not the right term for it, but descriptive) for looking at the data to see what would have to go wrong for Clinton/Right for Trump.

OT (or is it on topic)
I wasn’t going to post a song, but I was curious what the link that I had cued up to paste was and it’s a song.

I was going to post a pic of that charming Hillary Clinton costume–my favourite of all I’ve seen this year, and it had some amazing GoT competition. Figures that some people out there had to (try to) ruin it.

@David

Thanks! The name caught my attention, but I thought it was just me – spending a lot of time in places like chans or Reddit makes you see memes and anony-lingo everywhere…

I can’t hear this song anymore without thinking of GOB’s magic show from Arrested Development.

Of course you can’t! Who can?

Yeah. Media analysts predicted that traditional news will sensationalize stories in the election cycle more often because they’re competing with “New Media” for readers and viewers. So, e.g., media outlets are under financial pressure to report about the email server even if it’s not relevant. Financial pressure usually has higher priority even if a news service wants to lean liberal.

“Financial pressure usually has higher priority”

…than anything

weirwoodtreehugger: communist bonobo

Interestingly, CNN money had some pretty anti-Trump headlines up all day. It’s like on the one hand, they want the race to be or seem close so they get readers but on the other hand don’t want him to actually win. Kind of a dangerous game!

If Trump were to win, the financial fallout would be severe and immediate, so I have no doubt that CNN Money is trying to depress the Trump vote independently of whatever CNN is doing.

Noooooooo!!! *spirals ever further down the YouTube black hole*

Those are freaking fantastic. That Beatallica vocalist is spot-on. I actually Googled them to see if it was Hetfield contributing.

Terrible covers of The Final Countdown, you say? Has anyone linked you to this one yet? This might actually be the BEST cover though.

(Sorry if this doesn’t post right, if that’s the case perhaps a friendly mod could fix it for me pretty please)
