Rich Douchebag secretly funding anti-Hillary meme war, Daily Beast reports

A different rich douchebag than the one mentioned in the headline
A different rich douchebag than the one mentioned in the headline

So the filthy rich 24-year-old founder of Oculus — you know, the tech company with the virtual reality goggles — has apparently been secretly funding a propaganda outfit attempting to take down Hillary Clinton with a barrage of dank memes.

According to The Daily Beast:

A Silicon Valley titan is putting money behind an unofficial Donald Trump group dedicated to “shitposting” and circulating internet memes maligning Hillary Clinton.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey financially backed a pro-Trump political organization called Nimble America, a self-described “social welfare 501(c)4 non-profit” in support of the Republican nominee.

Luckey sold his virtual reality company Oculus to Facebook for $2 billion in 2014, and Forbes estimates his current net worth to be $700 million. …

Nimble America says it’s dedicated to proving that “shitposting is powerful and meme magic is real,” according to the company’s introductory statement, and has taken credit for a billboard its founders say was posted outside of Pittsburgh with a cartoonishly large image of Clinton’s face alongside the words “Too Big to Jail.”

“We conquered Reddit and drive narrative on social media, conquered the [mainstream media], now it’s time to get our most delicious memes in front of Americans whether they like it or not,” a representative for the group wrote in an introductory post on Reddit.

There’s a weird and elaborate Reddit backstory to all this, featuring bitter infighting, accusations of con-artistry, and even a cameo from Milo Yiannopoulos, all of which I’m too lazy to summarize, so you’ll have to read about it over on The Daily Beast.

“Honesty, Mark. Try it.”

Scildfreja Unnýðnes – How are you! Hope you’re doing better than ever!

You and I both know, hun – the way you present equality doesn’t match reality. You wore a hard hat through symbolism. You wore a hard hat to feel contributory. You supervised male disposability and male laborers who were working for far, far less than your pay rate. We both know what that means – don’t we dear? Don’t play games with me, sweetie. We both know how women ‘earn’ their way. You simply rely on surplus male labor as your way of life.

@MarkyMark, re: hard hats
Could we, perhaps, just maaaaaaaaaaaaybe, request a little bit of proof? (And don’t tell me to “do my homework” or whatever you like to spew. I was told that by another alliteratively named troll just today.)
I’ve been in an incredibly gynocentric household throughout my life, and neither my mother nor my grandmother (or my memaw) told me a damned word about this conspiracy you’re on about. Surely I’d be in on it by now, if it were actually a thing in real life.

But it certainly doesn’t seem to be.

“You’re still slightly amusing. Do not make me retract that.”

Oh – I’m entirely amusing. I’m one of the few the understands both sides. That makes me priceless.

You say things like this:

Feminism is about true equality. Why you see me in such hateful terms I do not know. Feminism will bring and end to war and social disparity.

Then you say things like this:

most notably through feminism’s inherently and ever increasing ridiculous hypocrisy and double standards.

ref: this thread.

This is one of the reasons that I use women for my convenience. They can kill with impunity – nothing I do to them comes close to that level of evil. So they are for my pleasure, then I ditch them although I do come back sometimes. (They aren’t very bright which is what makes it workable.)

ref: This article.

Plus literally hundreds of examples, from your own blog or elsewhere about the internet.

Either

a) you’re saying that true equality is about hypocrisy and double standards, or

b) you’re being a duplicitous double-talking asshole.

Or am I missing some other option? Do enlighten me.

Handsome "Punkle Stan" Jack

People are up in arms because Oculus was created through crowd funding. He actually got ten times more than he asked for (about $1.6m in the end). And it is fair to say he gave his investors everything he promised. That varied from a certificate up to an actual pair of the goggles (if you put in $500 or more).

And as we know he then immediately sold the company for $2 billion.

The general mood of his backers could be fairly described as annoyed, but more accurately described as furious.

Weird that someone so ethical would now stoop to supportng Trump. What could have corrupted such a fine upstanding young man?

Eugh, that is skeevy.

Oh hey, hi Mark.

Kinda busy today so I’ll stick to the relevant subject instead of adressing an increasingly boring troll who’s worn out his entertainment value long ago.

Regarding the original post… I’ve heard of this “Nimble America” thing before. Not much more than mentions here and there, but guess who apparently seems to work with/for them ? Milo Y. hisself. Apparently he’s posted stuff on Reddit encouraging alt-righters to donate or something ? Don’t remember the details, but it’s something along those lines. That means the Daily Stormer crowd wasn’t happy, and if they were consistent they probably wouldn’t be happy with this either. I’ll go see what’s up with that later.

By the way, on behalf of 24 year olds everywhere, I wanna say this asshole does not represent us.

Or maybe he does. In which case, I can’t wait for next year.

Handsome "Punkle Stan" Jack

@David

Thank yoooooou. <3 <3 <3 <3

He fucking doesn’t represent my 24 year old ass, that’s for sure.

So you think equality is a BAD thing.

–Well then, if you believe feminism isn’t about equality–you have nothing to complain about, have you?

Gosh, if you’re both 24… ô.Ô

That makes me feel much too old for my actual age. Dammit, Jim, I’m only 34! 🙁

Also, I’d like to echo @Handsome “Punkle Stan” Jack’s thankfulness for David giving @MarkyMark (without his Funky Bunch, alas) a timeout. *applause*

@Mark, while you’re on your time-out,

“Honesty, Mark. Try it.”

Scildfreja Unnýðnes – How are you! Hope you’re doing better than ever!

I meant that legitimately! I had hoped that you were in a good mood and that we might able to have an actual discussion! In vain, I see. That’s what I expected, but I like to try.

You simply rely on surplus male labor as your way of life.

pahahahahaha

Mark, I’ve swung Sanvik brush axes from sun-up to sun-down. I’ve dug ditches, cleared and planted trees, and hauled lumber up mountains with nothing more than a rope yoke – I’ve been the literal plowhorse. For a significant chunk of it, I was paid under minimum wage doing it, too – low wage plus camp expenses, donchakno. If I was hurt I didn’t complain, ’cause there’d be no sympathy for me. Just a whole lot of macho assholes laughing. You remind me of them.

Never once was I a supervisor during that part of my life. Never once did I get any of the imagined privileges that you seem to think I did. I am a supervisor now, though it’d be pretty unlikely if I were a supervisor to male disposeability – we deal with some pretty heavy algorithms, but they aren’t that heavy.

I put those labour jobs behind me, used the scraps of money I had saved to go back to school, to pursue the math and science career I had always wanted but whose doors had never opened for me. Now? Now I work in a research lab – pay’s still low, but I’m doing things I love and I’m cracking real problems that mean a better life to millions of people. I’m a published scientist in textbooks, and I ain’t even a Doctor yet.

Get outta here with your weak sauce. You have nothing – nothing but the sulphurous lies you spew every time you bubble up from the swamp.

But go ahead and keep believing that I was handed everything on a silver platter. Would be far from the first time someone takes my accomplishments as their own. You might say I’m used to it.

Well, if you want, we can use “almost a quarter of a century old”. It makes us sound older, although it might make you feel older, being over a quarter of a century old.

For what it’s worth and if it makes you feel any better, it feels like I’m aging faster because of a lifetime seriously lacking sleep. I have trouble lifting things or just moving around these days. Heck I even go for “old people drinks” at the bar now.

You can refer to your own age in whatever way you prefer, I just like to be an old curmudgeon sometimes. Apologies for any offense caused. 🙂

By the way, I enjoy your animated GIFs a lot. I haven’t seen the series that they’re referencing, sadly, but they look like a whole lot of fun. ^_^
