Gawker successfully trolls idiots with fake men’s site called, wait for it, The Cuck

Not the official logo of The Cuck

Yesterday, as Gawker staffers drowned their sorrows in whatever booze they could get their hands on at a bare-bones farewell party of sorts for the once-mighty, now bankrupt internet media empire, a new site bearing the Gawker brand introduced itself to the world: The Cuck, a “new pop-up bespoke men’s interest site, for men.”

If the timing and the title weren’t enough to clue readers in to the fact that The Cuck was a joke, a quick glance at the official announcement should have convinced all but the dullest readers of this fact:

Sex, dating, clothes, relationships, politics, sex, women—men have opinions about all of these things. And yet, there’s nowhere on the internet where you can go to read them. That changes today. …

The Cuck is a site dedicated to exploring modern masculinity in all its myriad forms, and over the next few days or until it is apparent that we have not been able to attract a really loaded sponsor (P&G please call us back), you’ll hear from some of the most thoughtful men—and non-men—working in media (Gawker Media, specifically) today.

The first story to go up on the new site? A comically overwrought essay on The Politics of Sitting Down To Pee.

Basically, The Cuck is a dig at New York magazine’s short-lived Beta Male site, which launched and folded earlier this year, with a nod at the idiots on the far right who’ve turned “cuck” into this year’s most embarrassing insult. (Embarrassing, that is, to those who use the insult, not those on the receiving end, who couldn’t care less.)

So, everyone got the joke immediately, right? Well, no.

On Twitter, an assortment of the sort of idiots who think “cuck” is a killer insult proudly announced their gullibility to the world; some of them even managed to work in gratuitous plugs for Donald Trump.

The Cuck site isn’t all that funny, honestly. The real humor comes from all the idiots who don’t get the joke.

So close, yet so far away.

I’m sure ‘our friend’ could have found a carboard cutout of a woman here at home.

That comic reminds me of Charisma Man, except the reasons why Charisma Man hadn’t had much luck with the ladies back in his own country were clearly portrayed; Western Women, despite being his nemesis, were not depicted as evil (just a little bitter); and it was actually funny.

(Basically, the whole thing was about being amused at how different the same person could appear through different cultural lenses, rather than how only those sweet subservient Asian girls can properly appreciate a man and it serves those evil Western bitches and the men they favour right if the author emigrates to spend his life among them.)

Funny….that one dude who copypastas the same spiel on the great feminist conspiracy to siphon men’s cash and essential bodily fluids before shoving them off a cliff en masse…does a similar spiel but slightly altered (presumably based on the audience) over on that modern whatever site.

Time to go siphon and eat bon bons. 😉

have unironically published articles about men enjoying the open relationships that their wives requested

Would it be OK with you if the husbands had been the ones who requested open relationships?

What is it you object to–open relationships, or the fact that women might want them?

I just keep feeling sorry for the dudes who actually enjoy cuckoldry. Let the poor men have their fun without using their fetish to insult others who have zero to do with that stuff.

Elite gymnasts spend 35-40 hours a week in the gym. I think they’re realize that they’re athletes. Shaming women for wearing make up doesn’t help anything.
They’re athletes no matter what they look like and it’s misogynistic to imply a woman isn’t a real athlete if they don’t look at certain way. Especially considering that the US gymnasts get a lot of criticism for having muscular and athletic body types rather than the dainty and balletic look many fans and judges favor. Is it any wonder they might feel pressured to look impeccable?

Like women in general, gymnasts get crap for wearing makeup, but if they’re not pretty enough, they get crap for that too.

I’m going to file this under obscure miscommunications, because I don’t see any disagreement.

It’s the people running the team who make decisions on promotions, image, costume, etc.(at least as I understand it) not the gymnasts themselves, ergo there is no attempt to “shame” them.

Er, ok, but that’s more of a result of your disconnect from reality than it is a reflection on Gawker. I mean, I think that MRAs are a bunch of whiny manbabies, and they are, but if A Voice for Men started a new site called “I went poopie in my diapers” I would at least suspect that the name of the site was a joke, not that they were actual diaper fetishists.

Thanks for the unwarranted agressivity, man, and for telling me what reality is. I meant that since it’s a word that tends to be striking for a certain type of people on the right, and Gawker has a knack for provocation and irony, I could see them create a serious site for men with a provocative and ironic name. In fact, I thought it was a fun idea. Like naming a feminist website after a queen seen as a false prophet and a symbol of abusive control and promiscuity, as a way to neutralize a certain talking point used by the other side.

But they wouldn’t ever do that, would they? 😉

““Gawker has published some questionable articles, therefore it’s reasonable to think that they would unironically claim for themselves the insult that the alt-right considers viciously cutting, and everyone else mocks the alt-right for using.” ?????”

Claiming an insult to mock the people who use it is not exactly news. You can actually find some good advice for men on the Blue Pill reddit, for instance.

Yemen use a symbol of castration as a way to mock the irrational emotions some guys have with women doing what they want.

I don’t really see how it’s hard to envision, to be honest.

I just saw Femen was autocorrected to Yemen, in my last comment.

Another example is a feminist website run by a man that would be called, I don’t know, “Manboobz”? 🙂

I’ve always sat down to pee. I don’t really know what the big deal is.

jamesworkshop:

When your cucking alone.

Andzzz:

I think its especially notable that the manager is clearly being creepy by asking one of the people who work for him out. There’s a pretty damn big power imbalance there.

meuh:

You do realize that “Manboobz” was referring to the MRA’s not David right?

Zatar:

How so? I saw it as a jab at the description MRAs make of many male feminists.

I just said I thought it could be a funny name and apparently that’s enough for people to see you as part of the “other side”.Sheesh, Gawker media has a side called Ratter, I don’t see how naming a site the Cuck was an ontological impossibility.

I mean… obviously I disagree with you (about the “The Cuck,” not really any of the rest of what you’ve said) but I suppose it’s a pointless thing to argue about. We agree that the site isn’t sincere. It’s a waste of time to debate whether, in another world, it might have been.

If you look at the FAQ he he says:

A) You see, the “Man Boobz” in question are the misogynistic dudes I write about on this blog. The term “boob,” in addition to meaning “breast,” can also mean “a nincompoop.” It’s a … double entendre? Ha ha!

@WWTH

“The men are bulkier in the arms because they do more upper arm stuff. Like rings. Whereas the beam is about balance, precision, and flexibility. I do think the men could the women’s events and the women could do the men’s events. So, I don’t think there is misogyny in how teams are selected, but there is in what events are competed.”

Yeah. Just to be clear (I’m a little confused by your wording), women don’t do the pommel horse, rings, parallel bars, or high bar. While gymnastics is a fantastic sport for young girls, the women’s events really are designed to show off their “female” grace, beauty and flexibility, while the men’s events are designed to show off their “male” power and upper body strength. (And many men/boys *still* view gymnastics as “too girly”). See: This.

Note to everyone: I’m not saying that girls physically can’t do the boy’s events, because they can, and in fact some coaches will train girls on rings and etc. because upper body strength is really needed by the girls events as well, if not as dramatically so. But BVH has a point, a point that is backed up by the sport’s choices in clothing, makeup, and gender differences throughout it’s history.

IIRC female gymnasts can mostly do the men stuff without real problem, but the reverse isn’t true.

I think that has more to do with a man’s pride than anything physical. 😉
