Hey, remember when Friday was meme-day here at We Hunted the Mammoth? We’ve missed a couple, mostly because of horrible things happening in the world, but we’re back!
Today, some of the weirdest pro-Trump and anti-Hillary memes I’ve run across lately. Most of these are from Reddit — in particular, from r/The_Donald and r/HillaryForPrison. Enjoy, I guess.
Now this last meme — which I’ve censored a little — isn’t really all that weird. It’s just kind of revealing, at least about the sort of people who sit around making anti-Hillary memes.
Yikes.
@Alan: I went out sledging in the middle of a snowstorm and hit a ditch, flipped the sledge, knocked myself out, woke up, staggered home freezing and in pain to a distinctly unamused mum who had TOLD me not to go out in that weather. It’s a stupid bone to break as well, I had to wear a figure-of-eight bandage and a sling for 8 weeks. I was nine at the time.
I still love sledging though, and managed to K.O myself a couple more times doing it in my teens though my bones were unbroken then. One of the few upsides of growing up in Buxton was the combo of inevitable snow in winter and lots of hills.
@kupo:
Nope. What I’m pointing out is that if one puts the evidentiary bar for ableism that low, one is simply devaluing the term ableism. Mockery of those here who do that, yes.
Similar to complaining about the term ‘Zionist’ when applied to two non-Jewish insufferable supporters of Zionist policies vis-a-vis Palestinians, implying it’s anti-Semitic to do so. It’s absurd and devalues a very real form of racism to the status of a swearword used to try and shut up opponents with.
@ viscaria
I hope this doesn’t come across as platitudes but try to bear in mind that whilst there’s one shit who doesn’t know you from Adam (and who clearly doesn’t give a flick about anyone) making a snide and cruel comment from the cowardly safety of anonymity, there’s a whole host of people here who do know you (if only from your wonderful comments) who think you’re great.
@ varalys
Did you have a childhood friend who was a stuffed tiger who is also somehow alive by any chance?
So, you still haven’t figured out what dogwhistle means yet?
@Gert:
I think you think you’re helping your case. If I tell you that I am a straight white male STEMmer, will you take my word for it that you are not?
Does Gert think he’s edgy or something?
I wonder if David still does IP checks. Maybe all the trolls and sealions just sound alike, but it sure seems like you poke these people are bit and they go into an identical meltdown. And new trolls always seem to know what buttons to press.
And am I the only one who finds it extremely off putting when people use 🙂 while being an asshole?
Now that I’ve written that, I’m sure Gert’s emoticon use will go way up.
My department at work is full of some awesome feminists, most of whom I’ve shown this site to. I hope there will be some new ‘nyms showing up soon. 🙂 I sure hope that doesn’t confuse poor Gartholomew.

This is why I’ve pretty much given up on sports. I was a big NFL fan for a long time, but the problems keep piling up and since my dad died last October, my last reason to follow it is gone as well.
In regards to children playing sports, I have a story of my own: I played a bit of footy in my teens (the international version, not American) and loved it. I also coached for a time in high school. During the time I played, I sprained both ankles, twice each, and also dislocated my right knee in a freakish slide tackle incident (it went back in on its own, but swelled and took me out of play for two weeks.) I dislocated that same knee back in 94 river rafting and I still suffer weak ankles as an adult almost forty years later.
I know a lot of people here already know this, but this shit comes back to haunt you later. And that’s not even related to the shoulder injury I suffered in high school P.E. on the men’s parallel bars that also makes my life currently more… interesting. I cannot imagine what pro athletes must suffer in their middle age and beyond!
@ Dlouwe
He pretty much passed into “Here Fido!” territory some time ago.
I noticed in the last thread that GELF uses a lot of the same turns of phrase, has the same life story and has the same meltdown triggers as… Mr Al.
Like, I get that MRAs might as well spawn from the world’s worst cloning machine, but come on.
@ hambeast
Boring bit of trivia, but we got into a discussion about how daft it was that American football, and indeed rugby, were called that when you could use your hands. We were told its because they’re played on foot as opposed to on horseback.
(On current form, that’ll probably turn out to be wrong too)
It never ceases to amuse me that Gert is so smug and thinks he’s so smart when he can’t even grasp the concept of dogwhistles. I’m pretty sure I learned about dogwhistle politics in my high school government class. It’s not that advanced a concept.
SFHC,
I don’t know if Gert is MRAL. He hasn’t called us alpha fuck bitches or high holy highnesses yet. But MRAL sure did demonstrate why cutting trolls no slack and refusing to waste time helping or educating him is the wiser choice. People gave him so many chances and he just spat in their faces.
@Viscaria : I agree that Gert is just revolting and have gone way past the point where being clumsy seem credible. While his initial gaffe in his thread isn’t horrible, his insistence in being rude and trying to provoke people, and the fact he is a repeat offender give ample right to be fed up with him.
I am not sure about how to call the position of finding the Israeli state deeply problematic. The more obscure dog whistle for antisemitism evolve all the time, so I tend to prefer to avoid saying things like “pro-palestinian” just in case.
For what it’s worth (given that I mostly read my politic in french and the french translation might have slightly different meaning), zionist as a bad word is as far as I know only used by assumed neonazis and people who look like neonazis. Zionist as a quality, I have seen used almost only by equally unpleasant far righter, the type that want the israeli to destroy the Mosque of the Dome to rebuild the temple of Salomon, so that the end of the world and the rapture can come. That word is at best very suspect to me.
You folks are the bestest.
I love ballet. I also know that it is incredibly hard on the body, and most (probably all?) professionals have only been able to reach that level by rigorously training from a very young age – too young to understand the risks and rewards. It’s something I need to consider.
With regards to having used the term ‘paranoiac’, claiming ‘[xyz] is paranoid’ would be more inline with the comments policy:
I’ll firmly bear it in mind.
@EJ:
I don’t know what a ‘STEMmer’ is. Please explain?
@Alan: lol I did have a stuffed tiger but he wasn’t alive. Also someone nicked it from me, I replaced him with a stuffed hippo who is sat on my bed as we speak.
As for Gert, ugh, shut up and GO AWAY.
@Ohlmann:
I hang around with a lot of pro-Palestinian people and have done so since I was a young angry man, and I agree with you there: every term meaning “I oppose some actions and policies of the state of Israel” almost immediately gets hijacked by neo-Nazis on both sides, and thus becomes useless in polite discourse.
(Off-topic, I’m going to Paris next weekend with my significant other, who is from the Ile de France and wants to take me to see her home town. If you’re around, I can buy you a drink.)
@Viscaria:
We can’t possibly be the bestest, because you are. Pauli Exclusion applies.
@Gert:
STEM stands for “science, technology, engineering and medicine.” A STEMmer is a neologism for one who studies such subjects, such as myself.
Many straight white men on the interwebs profess to admire the STEM subjects and to present them as a “worthy” field of endeavour, as opposed to less worthy things like art and the humanities.
By suggesting that you might listen to a straight white male STEMmer when you would not listen to someone else, I am a) mocking you, and b) being helpful.
@Ohlmann:
Perhaps you should look at sites like:
http://mondoweiss.net/
http://jewssansfrontieres.blogspot.co.uk/
http://azvsas.blogspot.co.uk/
etc, etc. All ‘anti-Zionist’ blogs run by Jews.
You obviously know very little about the PSM.
Perhaps with France being also an ardent supporter of Israel has something to do with your reading experience?
@Viscaria
We will give you as many internet hugs as you want, and you will like it!!! And you will not apologize for needing or asking for them, or, so help me, you’ll get more!!! <3 <3 <3
Re: IP bans
Uhm… Yes, please
ETA:
@EJ
Doesn’t the M in STEM (also) stand for mathematics?
Specifically with regards to the terms Zionist/Zionism/anti-Semitism, do have a gander at this:
http://azvsas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/chakrabarti-missed-opportunity-to.html
Speaking of France, has anybody seen Occasional Reader since the Nice attack? I’m getting really worried about her.
I see Gert’s gone into full “if black people can say the “n word” why can’t I? mode.
Alan – Never heard that one, seems kind of silly since polo has never been a big thing here in the U.S. American football is NEVER called “footy” here, so don’t know why I even thought I had to make the distinction in the first place. :S
Viscaria – I don’t see anything to make me think the threads here are the Viscaria Show. Even if! It’d still be miles better than the Gert show, in any case!
Still scrolling past your nonsense, Gert. If you manage not to get banned, I’ll read ya when others here start indicating it’s worth my time. Not holding my breath, though.
