Figured this was a good time for my second post.
@mildlymagnificent – I’m in Australia too and loving how this election is turning out. I think the Conservatives are a bit shell shocked this looks to be a hung parliament.
@nicolaluna- Environmental science is a great call. I did six months of a bachelor degree in that before I had to drop out due to issues. Uni is hard! But I wasn’t really prepared. Sounds like you’ve put a lot thought into it, so go for it. It’s a good cause, after all.
Anyway, thought I’d post this 🙂
Oh, btw, not sure if I might have found it here, but if so, credit to whoever found it initially.
I am writing this in a comfy chair in my new house, after having gone through the stress of arguments with my former flatmate, the stress of house hunting and the stress of moving.
The Significant Other will be joining me on Monday and moving into her room.
I can relax. All that stress is behind me. Have a happy lion. This is how I feel.

@Frantic Caps
I’m quite new to Algernon Blackwood’s writings, but I am a huge fan of Lovecraft (in spite of the very problematic racism). The Blackwood story that most stands out to me is “The Wendigo”. I seem to find that more personally resonant than “The Willows”.
Both “Wendigo” and “The White People” by Machen stick in my mind for some reason? They are both quite ambiguous and leave a lot to the reader’s imagination, again a lot like Lovecraft.
Nothing else to say really, except thanks for putting Blackwood onto my reading list again. And I get to mention Lovecraft to people who know what I’m talking (writing) about 🙂
So I’m a gay man and I decided to read the redpill glossary from they page. Surprisingly, that demon bug with it’s spawn was an effective brain bleach. I mean, they are all insane, what the fuck. send help.
I have received notice that we need to vacate our current premises by October. Unfortunately, rents elsewhere are all even higher than our current unaffordable rate.
Adding joy to my week, on my commute the other day, someone doored* me; I’m still in significant pain on account of that, and I’m pretty sure my wheel is bent.

So, for a large portion of my life I have been a “biter”. When I’ve been in a bad place mentally, I’ve found it relieving to bite on something soft, a piece of cloth, my shirt, whatever. However, a couple of days ago I was again feeling bad and didn’t have anything “normal” to bite on so in desperation I bit on my own forearm. I didn’t draw blood or anything, but I did bite for long enough to leave distinct teethmarks on my skin that only faded after a few minutes. The problem is that despite the pain or maybe because of it, it calmed me down. So, now I just hope that I won’t feel that bad again.
Sorry to bring my personal problems on here, but I felt that I should tell someone and you Mammotheers are pretty much the most supportive bunch of humans that I know.
Physical pain seems to supersede emotional pain. Some people point to to endorphins, I tend to think it ‘shocks’ the system and breaks the train of thought. There are better ways to do that, but yeah. You aren’t the only one to have felt that way, for what it’s worth.
Does Trump yet again Tweeting something from open Nazi’s, then deleting after getting criticized and finally reposting a poorly photoshopped version without any comment on the old version count as positive and distracting? It does for me but YMMV.

Some shops that cater to people with autism and other disorders sell chewable items like pendants you can use when you have the urge to bite. Here’s one, they have cute bat pendants made of silicon.

This might help. (I haven’t bought anything from them, as most of my stimming activity doesn’t involve jewelry. I rock back and forth.)
@peaches
Thank you so much for the link! ^_^ I’m definitely taking a good long look at the stuff they offer. Thanks again.

this is a nice thing that makes me fee lice to watch.
My older son* has been having some rough times lately, so I’ve been taking him out of the house. Tuesday last we went to a local beach on the San Francisco Bay, yesterday we went to see a movie. This afternoon, we’re checking him back into the respite facility he was at earlier in the year. There’s something about being in the house that stimulates his voices, which leads to tactile or proprioceptive hallucinations. We are very fortunate that I can stay home as much as I do; being left alone for extended periods of time is not safe for him right now.
Younger son finished the school year with an A+ in music class, with a Pleasure to Have in Class note attached. He’s come a long way – that was his first mainstream class after years of special ed. Unlike the mainstream high school freshones in the class, he’s actually been taught how to deal with emotional dysfluency. He may never speak Empathy with native fluency, but he’ll be able to handle please, thank you, and where’s the bathroom?
And I’m doing the best I can. Sometimes I put on some jazz, pour myself some whiskey, have a couple of puffs on the pipe and think about all the things that are going well. It seems to help.

Especially when you combine all three and you realize how much of a timesink they all add up to be.

On a postive note Friday night was a history making night for women in sports! I was lucky enough to go to the game and see both women play.

Someone’s just shown me what appears to be actual magic, so I thought I’d share.
If you take the cardboard tube from inside a toilet roll, hold it horizontally, then drop it; it always lands on its end!
(This sort of thing is what passes for entertainment round our way)
@Alan
Are tp tubes made from cats?!?
@ kupo
Either that, or cats are made from TP tubes.
Ya know what’s a really nice feeling? Glimpsing my dog outta the corner of my eye, noticing something weird, and being genuinely concerned for a sec. Then, upon further inspection, turns out her eye always looks like that and the thing I thought was… something… is just her normal claw. Happens semi regularly, actually. It’s nice when everything’s OK 🙂
Anyway, Person of Interest is over, so I’m all outta shows. I’m sure I’ll pick up some more, but I’m more than fine with a break for now (at least until Luke Cage). It’s hot as Muspelheim out here, but I’m slowly getting used to it. Very slowly. Not to get too political in this thread, but Arizona looks like it might be ‘in play’. Happy face. Oh, and Supergirlkels beat (and later lost to) Mew2King! If you get it, you get it, still hyped about it!

Random funny:
Between being pissed off at MRAcist bullshit and being way more hyped than is reasonable for RE7, I finally picked up Revelations and figured I’d start playing at midnight for maximum creep factor. Well, the moment the first zombie burst though the grate… The cat jumped on the bed.
I think there’s a me-shaped dent in the ceiling now. =P
(Needless to say, I’m enjoying this game immensely already.)
So if you like sci-fi strategy games, Stellaris is quite amazing. You check it out on Steam, if you’re interested.
Fun fact: Both of the game’s human factions are very diverse. Leaders come in a variety of races and colors, and are evenly split between male and female. This upset some gamerbros so badly they had to create a “European people only” (by which they mean “white people only”) mod for themselves. FEAR THE WRATH OF MY OPPRESSIVELY MULTICULTURAL SCIENCE FICTION UTOPIA!
