Why pickup artists see Donald Trump as the ultimate alpha male

Donald Trump: Red Pill idol
Donald Trump: Red Pill idol

So Amanda Marcotte has a nice piece in Salon today on the adoration the world’s most repellant pickup artists feel towards Donald Trump:

Pickup artists like Daryush Valizadeh, who goes by the name “Roosh” … and James C. Weidmann, who goes by the ridiculous name Heartiste, absolutely adore Trump. In him, they see a kindred spirit, a man who believes women exist to be submissive and flattering and provide sex and have no value outside of that.

I shared some thoughts on the subject with her via email:

“Trump is, in many ways, their ideal alpha male, an arrogant, deliberately obnoxious asshole who treats women like shit but has a former model more than twenty years his junior as a wife,” Futrelle told me over email. “It doesn’t hurt that she’s Eastern European; PUAs like Roosh Valizadeh contend that American women are basically spoiled by too much feminism, and see Eastern European women, by contrast, as relatively unspoiled.”

Marcotte takes a look at some of the gushing tributes to Trump that Heartiste and Matt Forney have spilled on the internet, then peeks into the Red Pull subreddit, which, she writes,

is teeming with discussion threads positing that Trump is a role model and that the disrespect and abuse he dishes out to women is behavior to imitate.

“Donald Trump teaches us something very important. Never bow down when put on the spot in front of a women,” one poster’s headline declares. In it, the poster explains that the way Trump treated Megyn Kelly, i.e., being a dick to her, was how men generally should, uh, handle women.

“This is a vital lesson to all men. Never ever let the hottest girl in the room manipulate you and break your frame. Never give in,” the poster writes. (“Your frame” is pickup artist lingo for trying to project an aura of overconfidence and stubbornness, or mostly just about being a bully.) “Even if you make a mistake, NEVER apologize to a girl.”

Kelly is 45, a bit old to be “a girl.” Come to think of it, isn’t she way too old to be the “hottest girl in the room,” at least according to Red Pill dogma, which posits that women all “hit the wall” by age 30, if not earlier, and are shortly afterwards transformed into ancient crones fit only for cohabiting with cats?

And, wait a minute, isn’t Melania Trump 46? Why hasn’t alpha dog Trump traded her in for some 19-year-old Ukrainian hottie?

Could it be that the “the wall” isn’t really a thing. not even to the Red Pillers who talk about it all the time? Could “the wall” be little more than a revenge fantasy of Red Pillers who desperately want to believe that the young women who turn them down will someday face their comeuppance by suddenly contracting a case of the uglies?

Marcotte finds herself wondering something rather similar, suggesting at the end of her piece that perhaps

“pickup artistry” is not really about improving your game with the ladies, so much as it’s about giving men permission to belittle and bully women under the guise of becoming “alpha.”

That such men would love Trump, then, is no surprise. Trump is loud, orange, stupid, and ridiculous, but he is a bully, and to the pickup artist community, that’s what it takes to be a man.

Yep.

Yes. Everything that women like, especially young women and girls, is seen as garbage.

Handsome "These Pretzels Suck" Jack (formerly Pandapool)

Speaking of misogyny in popular culture, is it likely that a good chunk of the hatred directed at Justin Beiber is because of it? The vast majority of his fanbase at the height of his fame was made up of young teenage girls, which, to some people, was evidently an unfogivable sin.

Yes. Everything that women like, especially young women and girls, is seen as garbage.

In a couple of decades, his music is going to be praised as classic, revolutionizing pop music as we know it. Bands over the world will cite him as inspiration. His lyrics will be analyzed and praised. Anyone who says he didn’t or just doesn’t like him will be meet with confused glances. People will put him on their dating profiles to show how much they like “real” music. History repeats itself.

Andrew Anglin came out with a screed against women’s suffrage on his website. I’d do an archived link but there are some extremely grotesque images of beaten/dead women and mentions of rape.

TL;DR Version: Women are like children playing with explosives and shouldn’t vote because their voting habits resulted in the migrant crisis or something.

I would’ve done a write-up but I just did a post on this asshat and that’s enough for one day.

That could be part of it. Though he seems an insufferable douche to me. Satan incarnate? Probably not. He isn’t Chris Brown or anything. His music, such as it is, is probably okay if you’re into what passes for pop these days (God I feel old). Not the worst thing ever for me, but I’ll pass on “Love Yourself” if it pops on my car radio.

Give him time and he’ll probably say something offensive about the lizard voters anyway and annoy them as well.

My theory about why Bieber is so despised is that not only do girls love him, but they love him for being young and pretty and non-threatening. It’s a reminder to dudebros that the macho standard they aspire to personally is not necessarily what the “unspoiled” girls are looking for. Likewise when adult women gravitate toward male celebrities who demonstrate a gentle, caring nature rather than the sneering butch assholes.

People are still going about Justin Bieber? Maybe the fact that i’m asking this means they’ve doing it a lot less recently. I never really thought that his music is the worst thing ever. It’s not all that impressive but it’s not horrible, either. As for his character, he always seemed okay to me. Although the lyrics to alot of his more recent songs make him seem like quite a douche. Case in point: the song “Sorry”.

Hey David,
I remember you asked us to let you know if we see awful ads. There’s one with the headline “19 gorgeous stars who became monsters” from Cyber-Breeze.com that has a side by side comparison of a woman who put on some weight. How monstrous of her. Anyway, it bothers me every time I see it, so if you wouldn’t mind looking into whether you can block it, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Hey David and the rest of you,

I just now found whtm via Amanda’s post on Salon. Looks like I have stumbled upon a nest of fellow travelers. Looking forward to learning a lot.

I hope to find here a place to trade ideas about how we do things in everyday meat space to support the cause; most importantly, to me, how to incite other men to enlist. I think I know some of the satisfaction that I get out of undermining sexism/misogyny but I am curious about how and why other men get into it.

Yeah, a lot of the vitriol towards Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, and selfie culture is rooted in the belief that women shouldn’t get attention, and they shouldn’t get mass adoration or personal financial benefit if they’re conventionally beautiful.

Especially if the women in question are doing it themselves and aren’t having it done to them (by men).

The thing that I see happen more often than not is these same dudes who loathe these women are the same dudes who beg for nudes from other women and threaten to take them and ruin women’s lives, or who enjoy making other women uncomfortable by needlessly sexualizing them and telling them how they’d like to violate them.

It’s not just that these women are sexualizing themselves, it’s that the men are not the ones who are getting to do it, and that the women in question are totally fine with it, instead of scrambling to do damage control like most other women do.

Paris Hilton, especially. She had her sex tape released without her consent, and she just says “You know what? Instead of trying to hide it and making it worse, I’ll fucking make this work in my favor.”

And, once I realized that, I had a hell of a lot more respect for her.

@The Justin Beiber stuff: He’s done some pretty offensive things (like claiming that Anne Frank would be one of his fans, spraying racist graffiti on walls, and he’s also delayed concerts by HOURS without telling anyone on the day of the concert, leaving his fans in the cold waiting for him to eventually show up), but I do agree that some of the hatred for him does stem from the fact that everything girls like (especially teenaged girls) is seen as frilly and unimportant.

However, my cousin told me something that I totally agree with: If you give a teenaged kid that much money and popularity that quickly, you’re bound to get some douchey behaviors.

The more I learn about the manosphere, the happier I am to be an ace lesbian, mostly because my very existence is contrary to all of their beliefs about ~WOMZ~.

Also, I’m with Fruitloopsie on the autism Internet diagnosing (and also with Fruitloopsie on the autism spectrum). Please don’t do that. I’ve seen “autistic” get used instead of “r*t*rd” as the go-to ableist slur used by trolls, and I’d rather that not receive any encouragement.

Re: Bieber– I just never liked his music. Many of my peers were right in the target demographic, so all the marketing for him would get directed to me as well through radio and TV, and that got old really fast.

Is it bad that every time I read “hitting the wall” I start to sing the song “We Hit A Wall” by Chelsea Wolfe?

A PUA PSA:

Basing your entire persona and life philosophy around scoring some titty-titty-sucky-fucky because it’s the only way you can feel like a winner isn’t very “alpha”, it’s actually pretty pathetic. Every time a guy tries to use negging or “Jedi Mind Trick” assertiveness or other PUA tactics, all I see is someone who is a complete sheep who will reinvent themselves into whatever they think will finally get a girl to touch them so they can brag about it online about what a big dawg they are; Essentially sad little people seeking validation and loudly stomping around trying to prove they exist, only with a nasty little twist so I don’t really have to waste any energy feeling sorry for them.

Everyone knows what you’re doing, it only makes you look like exactly the kind of person who just would resort to that out of desperation : totally ridiculous. Seriously.

Thanks all for answering. While I’m sad to (re)hear that yeah, he has done some offensive things over the last few years, he doesn’t sound worse than most other celebs behaving badly that we hear about. I mean, how often are some of those other ‘bad boy’ celebs hit with jokes like this one:

and have his teenaged fans targeted by people who seem to go out of their way to tell them ‘he’s GAAAAAY!!!!’ to get those fans to drop him forever? (Said underlying message, btw, isn’t ‘gay artists don’t deserve fans/money for their work’, but rather ‘you stupid cows are obsessing over someone who’ll never be attracted to anything female in a million years let alone YOU, so forget he ever existed and spend all your time/money on MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! instead’.)
