Ladies! Make sure you sign up for your free house! Apparently they’re just giving them away, like Oprah or something!
At least that’s what I heard on the Men’s Rights subreddit.
Well, he’s got a point here. Ladies, do make sure to send a nice “thank you” note after unwrapping your new house.
But we men haven’t just been giving you ladies houses. We’ve given you ALL THE THINGS.
We hunted EVERY F**CKING THING to feed, house and clothe you!
I mean, seriously. it’s not like women ever build anything. Here are some photos of women not building things.
Oops. Sorry, it looks like some of those women are building things.
Well, it’s not like women do any other important jobs.
Really? These are important jobs? Would anyone even notice if all the women in the US stopped showing up for their pretend jobs? Seriously, how essential to the economy are administrators, accountants, insurance fraud investigators, tax collectors, nurses, or teachers?
And what’s with all those different kinds of managers? I mean, it’s not like the economy would grind to a halt if all the office managers just up and quit without notice, taking all the women staffers with them to enjoy workless lives of ease and plenty by scamming beta providers out of all their money.
Wait. I’m being told that the economy would indeed grind to a halt if the female half of the workplace suddenly vanished. Apparently some of these so-called jobs are actually essential to the economy and society in general.
But we men are still number one when it comes to building houses! WHOO!
Admittedly, I personally have not built any houses, or even picked up a hammer in years, but ladies, you know the rules: As a man I’m entitled to credit for every good thing other men have done (and none of the blame for the bad things).
And I have the right to yell at women on the internet about it.
Come to think of it, that’s something else men are really really good at. WE’RE NUMBER ONE!

Futrelle, you’re killing me.
I came here to be interact with the Alpha-est manly man’s men on the internet.
You know, guys, like me, who hunt mammoths. The kind of guys who think that the problem with “Men’s Rights Activists” is that only weaklings speak of “rights” and that real men take what they want at the point of a sword.
Now I’m wondering if I misjudged you.
Do you even hunt mammoths, bro?
@maghavan
Ha, ha! I’d be the last person to deny your alphaness — but mammoths and swords? You’re dating yourself. In the case of mammoths, you’re carbon dating yourself.
pitshade,
“Whereas the MRA’s greatest accomplishment may be something their ancestors might have done before the dawn of recorded history.”
haha, precisely
Now I want a cob-house hobbit hole with a sod roof!
One thing I’ve also noticed about their logic is that when you provide examples of women contributing and providing for themselves, the goalposts shift to “Yeah, but women are only able to do that because men give them the privilege. So even when women do things for themselves, it’s still thanks to men for not kicking apart their sandcastle.”
If men wanted women to build things, why the hell wouldn’t they let women do construction work for a good chunk of history?! Like, we were not allowed to be builders. These guys know that, right?
You can argue yourself blue in the face about what men and women did in the past, but it is an indisputable fact that NOW women are doing almost everything that men do, and doing it well and often better. (Women aren’t as good at baseball, but I have seen a college game where a woman played second base.)
I assume every one here has read Virginia Woolf’s essay on what would have happened if Shakespeare had been born female. It makes the point as well as anything I’ve read.
I’m fine about the birth thing now, but yeah – I had to have a tendon repair op without full anaesthesia while I was pregnant after an accident. I could feel and hear the knife. They couldn’t find the tendon so it was explore until they got it. It hurrrrrt.
It was NOTHING compared to trying to birth a malpositioned 4.7 kilo baby. Haha, nothiiing. And birth goes on over days sometimes.
And you know what? My agonising foot surgery was done with a nurse who’s only job was to hold my hand. They praised me. The surgeon told me how awesome it was to do a repair on a fully conscious patient who could give her clear feedback. They hugged me. They chatted.
When I gave birth I had one midwife and my partner having to yell and threaten constantly to get them to listen to me and treat me like an adult. My pain meant nothing, my emotional state was meaningless. I had to stay still during a two hour emergency repair on me and listen to people talking about how they could no longer recognise what organs were which.
To this day my partner freaks out when people comment about how simple pregnancy is because he ended up with PTSD.
Giving birth IS natural and so is dying. Births are rarely as terrible as mine was, but they happen even now. Where are these guys when my partner needed help afterwards? Because he had some at his work telling him he should be fired for being a wreck.
If I were going to build my own house, I would probably make the walls out of rammed earth. That shit lasts for centuries and looks awesome.
Dude does know that brick is just dirt, right?
@Steampunked
Fuck any of those people who don’t think this is a thing because it totally is! My friend who had a long stressful labor (not even close to as scary as yours) told me that both husband and sister who were with her were visibly shaken for days afterward. It’s emotional grueling to see someone you love in pain or distress, why is it so crazy to think it would effect someone like that? Of course an MRA wouldn’t understand that, because they lack the most basic empathy for others.
I know nothing about obgyn or midwifery stuff but this makes me so mad. I know that there are some wonderful people in the field out there but sometimes you run into people who seem to really lack compassion and I wonder why they chose to be in a field where support and listening are so essential. I’m so sorry you weren’t given the proper support. I know they do it all the time but why should that matter? It’s a big deal to you! I’m not sure what else to say but I’m glad you made it despite those people sucking at their job. Emotional support is a vital part of caring for someone’s health, why is it so difficult for some people to provide?
I’ve never had kids (and I seriously don’t want them), but my mom almost got thrown out of the hospital when she had me because it was really late and my mom insisted that she wasn’t leaving until she had me. I was born roughly 25 minutes later.
The nurse who saw to my mom when she was pregnant with my little brother told her to cross her legs and hold him in because the doctor was out golfing, and she had an out-of-body experience with my little sister.
Yeah, pregnancy, and dealing with various hospital, isn’t easy.
I’ve read estimates of death rates of the mother from pregnancy/childbirth as high as 1 in 5, pre-industrialization times. And surviving one childbirth was no guarantee you would survive the next one. There are various “natural childbirth” movements out there, that say childbirth is too medicalized. I say bring on the medicine. Even with every medical advance available, mothers and babies can, and do, die. Anyone who thinks this is trivial is an idiot, really.
What? What?! What!?!?! Who were these people?? I want their heads!
Hear bloody hear. For all our virtues, humans aren’t so great at healthily giving birth. We can criticise elements of medicine as an institution – for their efficacy, consistency, ethicality, whatever – but the last thing we need is less medicine and more leaving people to die.
Tore out my old sink, aka Hellsinkie, by myself, primed and repainted that end of the kitchen, and received the replacement today. By this time Monday, I should have Sinko de Mayo installed. On my next birthday, I’ll be 37, if you have dyslexia.
Don’t know why but this line made me laugh the hardest I have all week.
reymohammed: you rock.
Who’s “we?” You got a turd in your pocket? You didn’t build shit, so STFU!!
