So the moment that woman wasn’t dressing her anymore, she outright rejected all of it. No more dresses (she’d only wear boys clothes), she cut off her long hair, and she pretty much dressed like a boy for a good many years. She’s only recently started growing her hair out again and wearing makeup.
As for me, I rejected femininity out of fear, and a loss of my personal safety. I used to be a really girly girl, I liked wearing pink and dresses and typical feminine stuff.
However, after my abuser got done with me and was sent to jail (his mother was my sister’s grandmother, and she cut off contact from us because she blamed us for her son going to jail instead of the fact that he’s a goddamned abusive pedophile rapist), I rejected all things feminine just like my sister did. Except I did it because I felt safer looking like a boy and having a boyish haircut. I felt like I wouldn’t be nearly as vulnerable that way. My sister’s grandma didn’t play dress up with me, but I’m pretty convinced now that that’s because she always hated me and my mom.
Though, honestly, having someone who would rather defend a child rapist instead of help his victim (and even going so far as to scare them into silence out of fear of “being sent to a girls’ home and never seeing your family again”) hate you is a pretty good feeling.
There are a few choice words I could use to describe that woman, and none of them are kind.
All that aside, I’ve also recently (within the last few years) reclaimed my desire for feminine things. I finally feel comfortable wearing skirts again, I’ve grown my hair out, and I love pink things and would some day like to dress in Pastel Goth, Gothic Lolita, or Fairy Kei styles of clothing with bright colors and pretty skirts and things.

Completely unrelated to abuse, but related to sisters and femininity, my eldest daughter was always a really girly-girl, loved pink, Barbie, Disney Princesses, you name it. She delighted in dressing up and would pose for photos, loved makeup and hairstyling, everything. At 18 now, she still is into fashion and makeup but is no longer into girly pinks.
Her sister, by contrast, hated all things girly. She screamed and struggled and fought against me to wear a dress for my brother’s wedding at 2, never liked Disney Princess or Barbie, she loved Dora the Explorer. We had to put aside most of her birthday presents as they were too girly. They were chalk and cheese. She is 13 now and still not into makeup.
When I was pregnant with their brother I was barely sick at all and felt well, if tired. With elder daughter I threw up everyday and gained no weight. So, when I was expecting daughter no. 2 I was sure it was a boy again as the pregnancy was same as the first. I do wonder if hormone levels influence this.
I’ve heard baby boys with lots of older brothers and sisters are more likely to be gay than first-borns, and my younger brother is definitely more feminine than our older brother. I find it fascinating.

It would help to know what hair color you’re starting with. 😛 I know much many things of hair, coloring it, and the makeup. Oh, hair length, texture, and quantity (for example, I’ve got long hair, fine texture, lots of it. And the curl pattern is 2b-2c) would also be helpful.
Once we get all those things established then we can talk about how much professional maintenance you’re willing to put into any hair color change(s) and how much time/money you’re going to want to invest overall.

Clothing for the body type, best makeup and clothing colors for hair/eye/skin tone, how to tint your own eyebrows so you don’t have to fill them in every day to look like you’ve got brows (mine are blonde so if I don’t tint them they kind of disappear depending on the lighting) but still have the color look natural. And I know LOTS about hair products, skincare, and makeup at every price point. 😛
