I was asked to do a piece on Roosh V for the International Business Times, and so I did, arguing that his now infamous post on legalizing rape is not actually the worst or most dangerous thing about him.
Roosh, like many other gurus of so-called “pick-up artistry”, likes to pretend he’s discovered some secret codes that – like the cheat codes that make video games easier to play – allow men to charm and/or manipulate almost any woman into having sex with them.
In reality, of course, there are no cheat codes; women aren’t video games. But there is another, more old-fashioned technique that men have used since time immemorial when they want to have sex with women who aren’t interested in having sex with them. This technique is known as rape.
While Roosh indignantly insists he is no “rape advocate”, in his books and blog posts, he encourages his followers to treat a woman saying “No” as little more than a temporary obstacle to sex.
Read the rest here.
JoeB, thanks for the DM piece. Leave it to DM sleuths to do no-holds-barred investigative reporting, tabloid style.
Now that his neighborhood knows who he is, I wonder if and how Roosh’s life will be affected. I would love to know what his mother thinks of all this. I assume she must know what her son does.
He says he added a ‘satire’ disclaimer to his ‘legalize rape’ piece. Just yesterday. We understand. A man as busy as Roosh may be forgiven such an insignificant initial omission in what was obviously a humor piece. Obviously.
But what about the rest of his, er, productions? Satire all, right? It’s just that our, human, collective sense of humor is not finely tuned enough, I’m sure.
Roosh is even a loser when it comes to excuses.
This is how you commit a crime then say it was satire. Tried to blow up a parliament. Judge wouldn’t accept this was a great piece of performance art. Philistine.

@ lux
You know, that observation will probably lead to the breakthrough that finally sorts the quantum/relativity reconciliation.
Alan, so many people are deficient in their satire-recognition skills. Stone’s impressive collection of ‘artistic props’ itself was clearly ironic. And artistic like hell.
Y’all, check out Roosh’s twitter feed where he is glorying in the media exposure (with other d/bags of the feather expressing jealousy over his ‘fame’); complains, ungrammatically and nonsensically, about being doxed by Anonymous (how could they dox him if anyone can easily look him up?); and retweets a message from RoK saying that ‘they’ (Roosh’s supporters?) plan to run a… Super Bowl ad this Sunday (about what? and how would they pay for it?).
Oy. Gotta see Anonymous going after Roosh:

I’ma grab popcorn.
@ newbie
I thought I’d been doxxed once when somebody published my name, address and phone number; but apparently that’s how telephone directories work.
I just noticed that the Sydney Morning Herald included a screenshot of your blog a while back, too.
Apparently, they’ve identified the man behind /r/PhilosophyOfRape and it was Joshua Ryne Goldberg. The same guy who is now facing a prison sentence for attempting to incite terrorist attacks (posing as an ISIS supporter). He also has a history of posing as white supremacists, although he is Jewish, and apparently contributed to Breitbart and The Daily Stormer under fake personas.
Alan, yeah, that doxing thing can be as confusing as satire.
Hu’s On First: I looked up Goldberg. Oh, wow. Another pimply-faced overgrown adolescent launching a world revolt from his parents’ basement.
The Manly Men of Red Pill are ever so manly.

Also, Pöpcørn.
Bina, that’s some great popcorn.
I schadenfreuded.
In fact it’s bloody infuriating.
I’ve done the numbers by combining the two groups of subjects of the research papers cited in that Meet the Predators piece. When you add up the number of research subjects, the numbers of men admitting to various offences, and the total number of offences committed, the result is pretty mind-blowing.
Total number of men in the 2 studies – 3028.
Total number of offences admitted – 1348.
Which looks as though nearly half of them, 43%, admitted completed or attempted rape if – and only if – you believe that all offences were isolated events.
In fact, 6% of the men (172/3028) admitted to 93% (1256/1348) of the total offences.
A further 3% of men admitted to the remaining 7% of the offences (92/1348).
If you think about that for a moment, you’ll see why it’s so infuriating. (It’s also pretty distressing that 9% of these men admitted to at least one incident.)
Far from police being cynical-suspicious-doubting when a woman reports a sexual assault or a rape, these numbers suggest that police should think very, very differently. If this complainant is right, it’s much more likely than not, odds of 9 out of 10, that the bloke concerned has a history of such offences – and this particular woman very likely has no knowledge of that.
Heeheehee…the Anons have found David’s post on Roosh’s hygiene habits (or lack thereof) and are now postulating he hates his mom for making him wipe his ass. Too much fun!
@ Luxbelitz
Catnip then? The cat is both high and not high.
was this posted? it’s hulorius
OMG BINA
I used to dance to that popcorn song in elementary school PE class! Like we had a synchronized dance for it my third grade teacher taught us (because at my school back in the day, the homeroom teachers were responsible for teaching PE as well as every other class).
Hello.
I do not know the Daily Mail and how reliable it is as a newspaper, but if he really had received death threats, is it not problematic ? Is it not escalating too much ? Not only i think it is illegal, but this kind of threat does not help to criticize this bad man and, on the contrary, may contribute to helping him to pose as a victim. Take him down by the word, not by the sword ?
Have a nice day.
@occasional reader
I haven’t read the Daily Mail article yet–but I’m certainly looking forward to it.
But without reading the article, I can say that nobody on Mammoth has ever advocated killing him. We may have hoped out loud that he’d trip on Legos. And personally, I hope that all of his socks–even the new ones–get holes right away, which can be darned uncomfortable.
But death? Nah, that’s not how we roll. In fact, it’s disallowed.
Also, does Roosh say that he’s received death threats? Or does someone with some credibility say that? Just wondering.
Can we somehow make it so that Roosh is never allowed near cats or dogs or sloths?
David, thank you for that terrific article!
Patrick Hamblin responded to David’s article. I’ve added my own notes in bold.
I think the problem here is mostly that people still believe “misogyny” is a bad thing.
Why the quote marks? Do you believe that it doesn’t exist? Please clarify.
Is it?
Woman hating? Yes, I’m going to not go out on a limb and say that it’s a bad thing.
In light of feminism, we as a society should really start to question our long held beliefs.
What is it about feminism that should make us question our long-held beliefs? And how long is “long held”–are you referring to the past 1,000 years? Or the past 100 years? Or the past 45 years or so, when the second wave of feminism (the first wave was the movement to gain the vote) took off? Please clarify.
Clearly the guy didn’t advocate an actual legalization of rape in that think piece, and it is true rape is too easily defined in western countries.
“Clearly didn’t”? Says you. He clearly did advocate an actual legalization of rape. Go back and reread it. And it’s not a “think piece”–it’s a hit piece, with women as its target.
What evidence do you have that rape is “too easily defined in Western countries”? Please specify.
The belief that sexism is hateful is basically the problem here.
What part about believing that hating women and denying them opportunities that are equal with men’s isn’t hateful? In what way is it not the problem?
For the most part Roosh and his sites just offers a blunt, and critical view of women.
“For the most part?” What is the other part? Please specify.
“A blunt and critical view of women”? We women can handle blunt criticism. What we object to are threats of rape.
Whether or not they’re right, hate isn’t the intention, nor is it even important.
So now you’re not sure that Roosh’s views are right? In what ways? Please specify.
“Hate” isn’t the intention? Rape–and threats of rape–are acts of violence and hatred.
“Hate” isn’t important? Hatred is most definitely important to the person being hated, especially when it’s accompanied by threats of violence or violence.
I don’t like that Roosh is getting threats, and I would never threaten him myself. I’d discourage others from threatening him, as well. I also don’t like to victim blame. Having said all that, I just can’t help thinking that if you admit to raping several women, wanting to rape many more, encouraging others to rape, wanting to make rape legal, hating all women and all people who are not sufficiently white – at some point you have to admit you’ve been trying to make people angry.
Sorry if that is enough to break the comments policy, in which case this comment can be deleted. I don’t like that he’s getting death threats, but knowing that he’s been threatened I’m now going to have a big cup of coffee and go play a video game. Because I genuinely don’t give a single fuck.
@SFHC
Are you sure there wasn’t a post about that? I remember hearing about this before.
What manospherians need to do in order to get death threats: threaten half the world’s population with rape.
What feminists need to do in order to get death threats: exist.
