It’s Friday again, and that means memes. Today’s batch comes fresh from the A Voice for Men Facebook page. AVFM may be in the middle of a slow-motion collapse, but they’re still doing an amazing job making and/or disseminating almost completely incomprehensible memes.
Take the one up top there, suggesting that if fathers have any issues with the way their “baby’s mama” is raising their baby, the solution isn’t to discuss this with her or — heaven forbid! — get more involved in raising the kid.
No, the only REAL solution is to ruin her Valentine’s Day by taking her to McDonald’s, instead of giving her the lavish romantic dinner she expects.
Because, you know, mothers are far more interested in extracting lavish dinners from their men than they are in, you know, taking care of any kids they might have accidentally popped out along the way.
Why did AVFM post a Valentine’s Day meme more than a month early? Probably for the same reason the site published an anti-Valentines rant from Paul Elam last August: there is no greater misandrist oppression of men than having to buy some chocolate or whatever for some dumb broad if she happens to be one of those women who expects her fella to buy her chocolate or whatever.
I have no comment on this next meme, because I have no idea whatsoever what point it’s trying to make.
I gather from the one below that someone saw Adam Sandler’s fake-gay-marriage comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and thought it offered some incisive social criticism.
I dunno, I’m not sure I have an objection. Why shouldn’t people be able to claim their roommates as domestic partners?
Enjoy the rest of your memeday! And don’t forget, all you fellas out there, Always Be Recording, just in case some random woman decides to do some false accusing.
MRAs and MGTOWs and the like talk endlessly about how all men should be always recording (and then presumably storing all the sound files just in case). I wonder if there is a single MRA or MGTOW who does.
It’s settled, then. All straight guy MRA’s will sham marry other straight guy MRA’s and leave women alone forever.
I had honestly not considered bottle-propping until today, and the little one is just starting to get fractious. Thanks, AVFM!
When a cismale MRA can shoot milk from his ta-tas and is willing to have a little person hang off them, then he can talk about breastfeeding.
Women’s bodies do not belong to the men or children in their life, and yes I include children in that, they don’t stop being autonomous human beings just because they didn’t have an abortion.
But women being people too is such a difficult concept right? *eyeroll*
Couldn’t… couldn’t we always marry our opposite sex friends for tax purposes if we wanted to? I’m a woman, I could marry my male roommate if I wanted to (provided, you know, he wanted to as well) and I guess save money on taxes? But… that would mean entangling myself legally with somebody I was only ever planning on sharing a home with for a few years. It would be complicated and messy and… pretty weird.
I mean, could there conceivably be people unconcerned enough with social boundaries who would find it sufficiently advantageous to marry someone for the tax benefits that they would be willing to do it? Two of those people that happened to know each other? I mean, yeah, conceivably. But people aren’t exactly rushing out to do it, and we aren’t outlawing heterosexual marriage to avoid it.
What am I saying… it’s an AVFM meme, of course it’s nonsense.
I love the idea that feminism is an alien waiting to burst from your chest and call it misogyny. I mean, the xenomorphs were pretty effective and had it not been for a badass woman they would have wiped everyone out and gone on to terrorize wherever the ship ended up next.
So either AVFM considers themselves to be the equivalent of a badass woman, or they’re so genuinely scared of feminists that they equate us with an extremely sophisticated and effective alien species. Either way you slice it, I feel like women come out on top! And it makes it seem like maybe MRAs should keep their mouths shut lest a feminist deposit an egg down their throats.
I think I can interpret the second meme.
Ignore the text: it makes no sense. Look at the images.
There are two hideous, bloodied-and-fanged looking things in there.
One of them is the Voice For Men logo, and the other is Baby Alien.
I see the parallel they are drawing here.
A Voice For Men: guaranteed to spawn in your guts and then burst its way out shrieking before destroying all life with its corrosive blood and unassuageable hunger.
Pretty apt meme, seems to me.
So, apparently misogyny is a horrific monster that breeds in the hearts of men until it bursts out to cause chaos and mayhem, only to be finally destroyed by kick-ass women.
Huh, that actually sounds about right…
[and well, it looks like great minds think alike and all…]
@Magnesium,
Ain’t it telling, though, that they use the Morpheus image and the “What now, feminists?” tone in that. As if the threat of them entering into financial marriages was a threat to women or something. They really do believe that they – single, unattached, unmarried they – are providing for women just by the fact that they’re mens. How do they? I can’t even.
@Scildfreja
I kind of interpreted as supposed to be a Neo-learning-about-the-matrix mind blowing thing. Like we’re supposed to go “Holy shit, I never thought of that!! Morpheus, you have blown my worldview! Now I don’t know what to think!”
…as if it’s not the same dumb argument people have been using against gay marriage for 20 years, and it’s still not convincing the 12346089th time round.
Also, PS: We’ve had gay marriage in Canada for 20 years, and THIS HASN’T HAPPENED. At least not on any noticeable, measurable, or damaging scale.
Bottle propping is actually pretty dangerous with tiny babies as it can cause them to choke. But being passive aggressive about dates instead of talking about it or helping their partner out is just the kind of pathetic “solution” I’d expect from avfm.
Women just can’t win with misogynists, I breastfed each of my kids until they were 4 years old and I got plenty of shitty comments about them being “too old” and how I shouldn’t breastfeed in public.
Some thoughts on these memes:
Is it just me or does that camouflage bottle holder look like something marketed to men?
Also, and this is the shocking part, I don’t fucking care about Valentine’s Day (and I am a woman and a feminist). I think it’s a scam holiday designed to treat women like children while separating men from their money. My spouse doesn’t even have to part with the $20 a McDonald’s blowout (because naturally we’d get Big Macs and apple pies) this meme is suggesting. I’m happy to stay home and cook for him. And, I’m a feminist. I mean, the real kind with hairy legs and protests and all that stuff. Consider your mind blown, MRAs.
No idea what the Aliens meme is trying to say either. The Alien is misogyny made corporeal? Okay. I mean, that’s weird but whatever.
I have no problem with same-sex, heterosexual roommates sharing benefits. I think people should be able to add any life partner to their benefits, especially if they share a home and/or the care of children. I imagine the impediments to this happening are (1) employers, (2) insurance companies, and (3) homophobes/fear of appearing gay. I am none of those things so I’m not getting in the way.
Actually, I think most feminists would agree that our “traditional” definition of family or marriage is incomplete and not reflective of either tradition or the whole of human experience. Why shouldn’t you be able to have a same sex partner who isn’t your sexual partner, for the purposes of benefits, etc.? That’s actually a great idea.
Finally, if you genuinely don’t trust someone enough that you record your conversations with them, perhaps you shouldn’t have conversations with them. Exercise some discretion in the selection of your friends and acquaintances. Don’t enter into long term relationships with people that you cannot trust. There are psychopaths and narcissists out there that will abuse your trust and hurt you but understand that behavior is not determined by gender. Expect the women you are intimate with to be honest with you as you are with them.
And therein lies the problem, I think.
I have yet to meet/hear of a woman that was at all affected by the threat of a group of men deciding not to get married, or marrying other men for tax purposes. Yet, MRGTOWs keep making that threat–we’ll take our ball and go home and then you’ll be sorry!–it’s basically all they do. I can’t really fathom the level of reality disconnect it must require to keep that up.
I mean, if you took MGTOW to its logical conclusion, having them marry each other would make sense.
But what if they have to divorce? If neither one is a woman, how will the courts determine who gets alimony???
/s
Also, what’s stopping them from getting sham married to a platonic female friend and getting the same benefits? Given that they tend to see women as objectives rather than people, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that very few manospherians even consider the idea of maintaining platonic female friendships.
What if I told you that “opposite sex marriage” doesn’t require the partners to be heterosexual? What would then be the point of arguments where romantic love and sexual attraction have never been requirements for issuing marriage licenses?
Also, I think Olde English Font John Galt is my favourite MRAeme maker. They’re always so bad, and that logo he keeps popping on just makes them a design nightmare.
Ktoryx, while I wish we had marriage equality for 20 years, it’s only been about 10. We managed to get that done before Harper got in for his reign of terror.
Hey, dad, if you don’t like the way mom is feeding your baby, I have a radical idea…
DO IT YOURSELF, ASSHOLE!
Alien meme: feminism seems like a mild sickness that can be ignored, but then terror alien misogyny pops out of it? I think that’s what they’re trying to get at.
When the ideology itself is a contradictory mess of muddled thinking, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the products of its adherents are a total clusterfuck.
God, those people suck at memes.
And to *further* demonstrate their commitment to the MRA cause, they will deny their essence to all the world’s females, reserving it solely for each other.
Wow, that became MRA slash in a hurry… 😉
Took a look at more of the memes. Quite the toxic mix of male supremacism, incredibly flawed logic, and horrible, HORRIBLE design.
However, it reaffirmed my opinion that there is no longer any practical reason to bother separating MRAs from TRPs. There might have been, some time ago, but now… nah.
The hatred for feminists, the contempt for women, the glorification of the male gender, the loathing for any woman with power or success or even just access to a traditionally male “field”, the rage over living in a society that doesn’t cater to them over everyone else (well, not as much as it used to, at least), the hostility towards men who won’t join them in their misogyny… it’s 90% the same (the biggest difference, i think, is in their view of homosexual men).
(Looks at the meme with Morpheus)
I don’t have an objection? People have gotten married for reasons other than love before. As long as both people know what they are getting into regarding the legal side of things and are cool with that, I don’t see why not.
And I still have no idea what that Alien meme is going for. Other than maybe they are trying to equivocate Feminism with Chestbusters? It does fail on multiple fronts though.
Absolutely guys should help feed their kids. My girlfriend sadly had issues producing breast milk, so we ended up supplementing and generally had whoever wasn’t busy get the bottle. Now that my son’s just short of a year, my GF and I fight over who gets to feed him cause it’s really fun to watch his expressions. He really loves his veggies. Pretty soon we’ll just give him the spoon and sit back 🙂

*Sigh*… one can dream… one can dream…
None of the memes made sense to me but I guess I’m not their target.
