Forbes Hails Success of Star Wars Boycott In World Where Words Mean Their Opposite

So this tweet happened:

RoKdelusin

Hmm. I hate to challenge Return of Kings’ legendary factcheckers, but they seem to have made a teensy little mistake here. Forbes actually thinks that the Star Wars “boycott” championed by assorted Internet reactionaries and racists didn’t cost Star Wars any money.

One clue here is the headline to the Forbes post stating that the boycott “Didn’t Cost Star Wars Any Money.”

In the post itself, Forbes contributor Erik Kain declares that RoK’s “claims about just how much of an impact their, ahem, “balanced, critical reporting” has had on the film’s financial success” were “even more ludicrous” than their claims that “The Force Awakens is little more than social-justice-warrior propaganda.”

Just a little heads up here, Roosh: Words mean what they mean, not the opposite of what they mean.

Unless the person saying these words is being sarcastic. For example, I was being sarcastic above when I mentioned “Return of Kings’ legendary factcheckers.” Kain was not being sarcastic.

Best part is that some of them are saying, yeah, no, it’s MILLIONS, that’s 4x the value of my house!

And that just shows how much they don’t understand that the revenue Disney made would have bought their house tens of thousands of times over…I think. At least a couple of thousands times over.

Nevermind. They’re just claiming that they really did make an impact on a movie that made over a billion dollars.

Are they aware of how many millions are in a billion?

EDIT: I just read the article, and I’m glad that the Forbes writer (who I dare say is a shade more reliable and skilled than all of RoK’s hacks lumped together) also pointed out that a twitter poll means exactly two things: jack and shit.

And the fact that their numbers are way fucking off.

I’m just going to steal a response I saw on the tweet:

I’m not exactly surprised that Roosh doesn’t know what “No” means.

(Thankyou, Bearpigman. I laughed for a solid half hour.)

By the way, David, can we get a thread about the terrorist takeover in Oregon? The media is whitewashing it to hell. Or… Washing it because they’re white. Either or.

Aside: does the UK still use a different version of billion than the US?
(UK billion: one million million, or 10^12; US billion: one thousand million, or 10^9)

Glad to see Kain’s still battling internet bullshit. I loved his analyses of #Gators back when they were still relevant.

@Nequam:

As far as I know, that still is the case. Dutch and German also use the same system as the British, so I think it’s one of those things where America insists on being the world’s special snowflake.

Like how they use Fahrenheit degrees, or a weirdly bastardized version of Imperial measurements.

Honestly, knowing MRA types are boycotting the movie makes me want to see it more, so really, it likely helped the movie make money.

On a side note…

“…so I think it’s one of those things where America insists on being the world’s special snowflake. ”

No, Canada uses the same system.

They need to start a Men’s Reading Comprehension Movement. But the catch is, the teachers need to come from OUTSIDE the movement, because these menzers can’t parse words for shit.

On the use of Billion:

The Oxford Dictionary notes that “Billion” is now commonly taken as the American English form, one thousand million.

http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/how-many-is-a-billion

I love the fact that dictionaries are a record of language as it is used, not a hard definition of the meaning.

@KimSamihael @ReturnOfKings He accepts our number, which was based on sound sampling, though he disputes the impact. Don’t be mad.

From the post:

Setting aside the enormous assumptions and statistical issues with this claim, let’s take a look at just how much of an impact $4.2 million actually makes here.

No, Roosh, he did not “accept your number”. He knows it’s bullshit too. He just ran with your number to explain that 4 million dollars US is still nothing compared to over 1 billion dollars US. Disney’s still laughing all the way to the bank, with or without your precious cishet, white nationalist money.

Or did Roosh just not read the article either? Do these guys read anything besides their own pitiful circle-jerking?

Also, I lol’d super hard at “sound sampling”. Like a vague twitter poll that a little over 500 people participated in (and only 55% responded favorably to), or the idea that he’s getting 900K “unique” hits on his website (which he assumes every one of those is a person who actually agrees with him and his toxic, shitty ideas) is “sound sampling”.

Re the billion:

What you’re referring to is the short scale (10^9 = billion) vs the long scale (10^9 = milyard). See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales

As far as I can tell the short scale is used universally in English now, even in the UK. The long scale is used in some European languages. For example, in South Africa where I live, the short scale is used in English but the long scale is used in Afrikaans. Can lead to some confusion.

Also, I lol’d super hard at “sound sampling”.

That was what I found to be a real knee slapper too. But I also appreciated that his response was “don’t be mad.” Can manurespherians really not tell the difference between somebody being mad and somebody mocking them?

@WWTH: Nope. Because they think we’re all mad at them for being SUPAH ALPHA MAYUNLY MALES and doing their own thing and “fucking our shit up” when they’re a minor annoyance at best.

Like a neighbor’s kid who just likes screaming for some reason. We just crank up the tunes and try to enjoy ourselves, since obviously no one’s going to do anything about it.
