Merry Christmas, if you’re into that sort of thing!

Every year here, on Christmas Day, we celebrate something we might call We’re Not Even Going to Think About the Jerkfaces of the Internet Today Day. Feel free to join us.

Also, Merry Christmas, if you celebrate that too!

Open thread! No MRAs, etc!

I’m always amazed when the cats vs. trees vids don’t end with some poor kitty being flash-fried by a chewed cord or something.

My cats don’t get a tree, so I make it up to them by ladling out (small!) servings of whole milk and (large!) servings of catnip.

Merry Christmas to everybody!

And may your dog not assume the Christmas tree to be a portable indoor toilet like mine did.

Merry Merry.

Me and the husband-person opened our presents last night, and we’re not going to my parents place until Sunday (sister is a nurse and has nurse-schedules). So today I’m making eggplant parm, and maybe some diabetic-friendly cookies. I am recovering from my back surgery, so right now I’m taking it easy as the eggplant slices bake.

This is my cat’s first Christmas, and I was so thrilled when we got the tree and he didn’t climb it. Instead, he lurks under it and waits until someone walks by to jump out and trip/head butt/climb up anyone who dares go near.

@Rachel F

That sounds so adorable (even though it probably will get old fast if the kitty persists on doing that every time someone walks near until the tree is taken out).

Merry Christmas everyone. May your days be long and your MRA’s absent.

I’m kind of glad I don’t celebrate Christmas. Given the way my cat behaves around menorahs, I can only imagine the kind of havoc he could wreck with a glittery, sparkly tree in the house.

I’ve had a fantastic day with my kids, ate lots of food and had a nap. My dad bought me a beautiful necklace – I wasn’t expecting presents as my birthday was last week so my family just buy my kids presents usually. It’s a moonstone necklace to match my name, my real life name is NicolaLuna so moon related stuff is perfect for me. Anyway, the surprise at getting a present plus how beautiful it is made me sob emotionally on my dad.

Tomorrow I’ll be back to my usual schedule. Every other Saturday I volunteer overnight at a homeless shelter from 8pm until 8 am. I love being able to bring some comfort and smiles to people who are going through a rough time.

Merry Christmas! We Skyped with my brother in Spain, then opened gifts. I got a Google Play gift card since I do like the apps on my phone. Got some other bits and bobs as well, have now wound up with two bottles of shower gel and three different hand creams. XP Ah well. I also got lovely pearl bracelet and a useful book for travelling: it’s called a Point It book and has various pictures of all sorts of things in it, the idea being that if you ever get lost or stuck in a foreign country you can just point at the picture of what you need and (hopefully) the locals will understand. Cool!

I also got a bottle of L’Oréal volumising hair serum from my aunt. She’s quite poor and it’s pricey stuff and I am indeed grateful but…my hair is thick and fluffy and wavy and volume is the last thing it needs. The hair products I usually buy are geared towards making it calm the fuck down. So I feel kind of awkward that she spent money on a product I’m very unlikely to use. :/

Happy holidays!

I’ve been around less for the past few days, because I’ve been busy hanging out with the family. And the new cat. Tiny Child (aka Topcat, aka Tiny Roomate) is now healthy enough and well fed enough to turn down shrimp. She and pre-existing cat still hate each other, so we’re working on the slow introduction.

Her kitten is adjusting well with a local ranch owner.

We just did the presents thing here, and I have to admit that my family knows me way too well: they gave me a 1983 copy of Hen’s Teeth and Horses Toes by Stephen Jay Gould.

I read the first essay, and had fond memories of you all. Half of the chapter was devoted to angler-fish.

Time to get back to hanging out with the family (because who knows when we’ll all gt together again), but wanted to say I was thinking of you all and hope you are doing fantastic!

Happy holidays, everyone! Hope you all are happy today.
And for you who are in no good terms with your relatives for being LGBTQ+ or poly… I hope you have loved ones to drink white wine in the sun with. If you don’t have any human, I saw a very good idea on Facebook today : dress cats and dogs in fancy clothes and sit them around you. Maybe it’s too late for Christmas but it’s not for new years! I think it’s an excellent idea.
My present for you is a hug as wide as the world and lots of love.

Happy holidays everyone, and if you’re not celebrating any holiday around this time then at least have a nice day!

I just moved into an enormous house and was considering getting a tree this year, since there’d have been plenty of room for it…but now I’m watching that video and giggling and patting myself on the back that I didn’t risk it.

Happy holidays and/or solstice!

I’m in the car on the way to my aunt’s, which is clear across the metro from my mom’s. So I thought I’d pop in real quick.

Our cats don’t attack the tree and are terrified of the model train. On the other hand, the fluffy one has a taste for adhesive and we can’t put bows on our presents anymore.

Oh, we tried to watch the new Star Wars on Wensday, but the theatre projector computer broke down halfway through. We’re going to try again tomorrow at the IMAX.

I surprised the wife with two nights in National Harbor, complete with tickets to the ice festival, which has been really nice. The hotel itself is crowded with lots of families with kids, but it’s still really neat, and the hotel is decorated fabulously. And our room is super quiet. We got really lucky and our room is on a corner next to the stairs (which no one uses) so we don’t share a wall with any other room!

We opened presents this morning, and I’m really happy with the various stuff I got from the wife and relatives. I especially love the two Hamilton items the wife got me, since I am rather obsessed with that musical at the moment.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

sunnysombrera: shelters are almost always looking for unopened grooming products. Things like toothbrushes and haircare stuff. Maybe there’s one near you that could take that gift off your hands.

Merry Christmas! It was a bit of a sad one over here at Chez Alpine, since we moved down here to the South (really, it’s not that far South, i’m just from the Frozen Northlands, so DC is like the tropics to me)…parents too far away to visit, and worked the 3 night shifts up through this morning :-p but I got medieval cookbooks! and a fencing breastplate! and Dr. Alpine got armor-making equipment! yayyyyy!!!
