The We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive is almost over! Please donate, if not for me than just for the chance to SPITE THE HONEY BADGERS! Thanks!
The ongoing tragicomedy that is the Honey Badger Brigade’s Calgary Expo lawsuit continues to get even more tragicomical! Well, not so much the “tragic” bit, just that “comical” part.
The last time we checked in with the Brigade — that GamerGate-loving, feminist-hating gang of mostly lady YouTube blabbers — they had filed some sort of legal document charging the people in charge of the Calgary Expo with some kind of bad wrongness for tossing them out of the aforementioned Calgary Expo back in April.
They also charged The Mary Sue, a website in the United States that actually has no power over the staff of any expos in Calgary or indeed anywhere else in Canada, with somehow contributing to or causing the expulsion.
Well, The Mary Sue has responded to the Brigade’s legal filing, and the response is a doozy. Happily, the Honey Badgers have put it online for us all to enjoy.
The Mary Sue’s lawyer begins by pointing out that they are — ahem! — headquartered in New York, which is pretty clearly not located in Alberta, Canada, where the lawsuit was filed. (I am reliably informed that Canada is actually a whole other country from us.)
Then The Mary Sue’s lawyer gently reminded the court — and, more to the point, the Honey Badgers — that TIME MOVES FORWARD, not backwards, and that an article that appeared after the Honey Badgers were tossed from the Expo could not have caused them to be tossed from the Expo.
In regard to breach of contract, this claim is not just unfounded, but it is simply impossible based on the timeline of events. The Mary Sue could not have induced the Calgary Expo (“the Expo”) to evict Plaintiff because the aforementioned article was published after Plaintiff’s eviction.
Yep. Apparently the Honey Badger’s fancy disbarred lawyer got the dates mixed up. But hey, the law isn’t about these little details.
There’s more to The Mary Sue’s response, but that’s pretty much the best bit, in this Time-Space continuum at least.
Yesterday, Hannah Wallen of the Honey Badgers — she’s the one who isn’t Karen Straughan or Alison Tieman — posted their official response to the Mary Sue’s letter. It did not mention what we can only call the Honey Badger Time Paradox, but instead tried to distract readers with some new charges against the dastardly Mary Sue.
Mary Sue claims a lack of involvement in Calgary Expo’s choice to expel the Honey Badgers from the event. However, in response to questions on twitter following our expulsion, the expo’s staff referenced The Mary Sue’s article about the event.
Ok, but the Mary Sue article was published after the expulsion, so it could not have caused the expulsion.
The Mary Sue’s prior and existing relationship with Calgary Expo is further demonstrated by an April 15th article promoting the Mary Sue sponsored cosplay contest which was to take place at the event.
Ok, but the Mary Sue article was published after the expulsion, so it could not have caused the expulsion.
Mary Sue weekend editor Sam Maggs was the first person to respond to Britany le Blanc’s first tweet objecting to “MRAs in the audience” at the women into comics panel.
Ok, but the Mary Sue article was published after the expulsion, so it could not have caused the expulsion.
Sorry, Ms. Wallen, but your little sleight of hand is no more effective than this dude’s not-quite-flawless disappearing act.
Just a reminder: the Honey Badgers raised more than $30,000 to cover the legal costs of their patently ludicrous lawsuit.
In my last post I noted that
MRAs and other antifeminists … have wasted literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on causes and projects and people that have pissed away their money without accomplishing anything of value … .
This would be one of those causes.
If you’ve got money burning a hole in your wallet, here’s a much better option:
Yes I am passionately opposed to circumcision, I think it is evil.
@orange tango
Just so you know, if that’s the main reason why you’ve allied yourself with the MRAs – the loudest of them are only against circumcision because they can use it as a dog whistle for “The evil Jews,” and the rest just like taking advantage of it to derail discussions on FGM. Zero, zip, zilch have ever done any actual activism against it. Plenty of feminists have, though, because consent is sort of a big deal to us.

There’s too much shit in this thread.
EDIT: And of course this gif starts a new page because Eddie looks up. 😐
sure they have, some have posted videos of themselves at anti circumcision demonstrations
@SFHC
Oops, my bad. I’m QLD born and bred, and on holiday there As of midday today. Seems a little strange to escape the Melbourne heat by heading north, but hey.
@orange tango drinker:
I wasn’t circumcised, although I know some people who were.* I appreciate why people would be opposed to it; certainly, I’m not in favour of doing it without a child’s consent.
Is there a particular personal reason why you feel so strongly about it? The reason I ask is that it’s easy for us to speak in generalities but it can be very dry and abstract; when one gets into actual personal experiences then one can make far more progress on a human scale. You and I are not the representatives of our respective ideologies, but are two human beings: we should relate to one another as that.

* As an aside, one of the funniest conversations I have ever had the privilege to listen in on was between two drunk women, one American and one British, who were discussing the appearance of the penii of the gentlemen of one another’s nations. “Like a snake hiding in a turtleneck sweater” is one of those terms I’ll remember until the end of my days.
Would such a conversation count as passing the Bechdel test, I wonder? We’ll have to ask Walter whether a penis counts as a man.
Okay, I finally read through all of this and EJ has the patience of a saint, as always.

Seconded. And despite no doubt coming across as very hostile I do massively appreciate OTD’s willingness to change their opinion on the HBB/AVFM issue. I think that deserves props. My troll-dar is far from well-developed but I kinda get a good-faithish vibe from them, and it’s cool that EJ has the patience to engage in a potentially constructive manner.
Because the foreskin is important. It’s not just useless skin. Its the most sensitive part of the penis. It makes me really angry that it is legal. I’m angry with people who do that to their sons especially when its for bullshit reasons. People saying it looks better for example.
@OTD
This feminist anti-circumsicion video may interest you.
I’m on my phone, and the browser crashed when I tried to do a pretty html link, so forgive the url: http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/06/circumcision-is-feminist-issue/
Again I agree; and even if foreskins were just useless skin, it would still be wrong to treat one’s son like that without their meaningful consent. You don’t have to be an member of the MRM to oppose infant circumcision. I’m a feminist – possibly a less moderate one than many people – and I oppose infant circumcision. Offhand I can’t think of any feminists who are in favour of infant circumcision. (Except for feminists operating within Islamic or Jewish spaces while wishing to maintain their own religious customs; and, well, as an infidel it’s not my place to critique them for that.)
Again, though, I must ask: have you had a personal experience with circumcision? Are you, or your significant other, circumcised? You evidently feel very strongly about this and I applaud that, but this sounds like you’ve had your own encounter with it.
@Imperator Kahlo
that is a superb video
No not really but I did a problem with my foreskin when i was a little boy, I know my parents considered having me circumcised but the doctor I saw for this foreskin issue was anti circumcision and advised them to wait.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Me too.
Yes, which is why many feminist speak out against male circumcision.
This is what I found when googling “feminism on circumcision”:
http://i.imgur.com/TzupiYN.png
So the MRA doesn’t have a monopoly on that. In fact, they seem to be trying to accuse feminist of being for circumcision while doing nothing about it? I just skimmed read those, however. Barely. I admit, I did just barely read a few sentences. Maybe they gave arguments about why male circumcision is bad but the few words i read I did not see.
EDIT: Some links I gave were ninja’d. 😛 Also, right click and view image to see that bigger.
A few weeks ago we had a troll called Walter who was going on and on about how men can be judged entirely by their penises and how every man can sense whether other men have a larger or smaller penis than them and will instantly submit to anyone who has a larger penis than them. He even suggested that he would hang out in public bathrooms and congratulate well-endowed men on their penises as a conversation starter, and that it’s natural for men to feel this way. We all found this to be hilarious beyond words.
The reason I’m telling you this is that I just know that when I express my sympathies for your foreskin issues and say that I hope everything was all right in the end, he’s going to be reading this and thinking, “told you so, you’re bonding over your penises.”
Nonetheless.
I’m sorry to hear that you had issues with that as a kid. Childhood health is one of these things where everyone has had issues and yet we all somehow think we’re the only one who had them; it plays into the toxically masculine culture of comparing oneself to everyone else and worrying about not measuring up. We’re taught to cope with the insecurity by denying the issues and pretending we’re perfect, which only makes it even scarier for other people and means they have to pretend even harder in turn. It’s sad.
I hope everything worked out in the end.
Thank you EJ, yes it all worked out all right in the end
@EJ
Walter is still around, he just doesn’t talk about penises anymore. Or as much.
@Kahlo
Oh hell yeah, welcome home in that case! =) Christmas with the family, I presume? (And have I ever mentioned that I love your username?)
@Jackie
I’d prefer the penis idiocy to his newfound racist idiocy, though. =P
Fine, I’ll go to youtube and check these guys out. Since the Bane guy has already been covered I’ll focus on the other two.
*intermission*
Let’s start with Spinosaurus Kin. Typing in the URL. Clicking Videos. Scrolling through. Let’s see… “#femISIS” sounds pretty bad. I wonder what that’s about. A video titled “A Cunt for @HammerOfThorium”. And it’s only 4 seconds long! Click. Okay, he literally just says the word “cunt” at the camera. Weird. Let’s go back to the Videos page. Oh, here’s another video: “10 Reasons Why Jenny McDermott Is a Cunt”. Click. In this video, clips of Jenny McDermott (I assume?) talking about MRAs are briefly interrupted by Spinosaurus Kin calling her a cunt repeatedly.
Okay, I’m done with this guy. Let’s try SkepTorr instead.
Typing in the URL. Clicking Videos. Let’s try this one: “Is Rape The Worst Crime?” This turns out to be an instructional video where SkepTorr suggests you should terrorize women by asking them if they would rather be raped or murdered, just to “prove” that murder is worse. Here’s a quote from the video:
In other words, women deserve to be raped because child support.
SkepTorr is also weirdly racist and violent. The first thing I see when I go to his page is a video titled “Mental Swedish Disorder”. The video description says “Swedish is a condition.” In this video, he talks passionately on how to execute people with a gun, while showing related video clips. He goes on the describe how we should be afraid of Syrian people because they serve ISIS and behead people, and they might attack you in the street for no reason. Specifically, this might happen in the city of Malmö, he explains. Incidentally, I lived in Malmö for a number of years and nothing of the sort ever happened to me. Oh well!
I’m gonna go do something else now.
Ew, really? :/ I haven’t been paying that much attention to him TBH. Got a few “waaaahs” and “hows” and “whys” out of my friends from sharing some screens, though.
skeptorr did not say that women deserve to be raped.
@dhag85
The interminable video I watched of a father extolling the virtues of the MRM in helping him to keep custody of his children was merely boring. Also frustrating because until the very end, I held out a tiny hope that the guy would say something positive about feminism. Ha, ha, ha.
But you, dhag85, truly took a hit for the team by watching those videos by sexist men promoting violence against women. Thank you.
I have to say it. Orange Tango Drinker is a liar, and he’s here just to waste our time, for the lulz of it.
