So the fellas on the Men Going Their Own Way subreddit are trying their hands at humor. It’s not going very well for them.
Here they try a variation on the old “so-and-so walks into a bar” formula, with Jessica Valenti and Anita Sarkeesian replacing the usual rabbis and priests. (I also make an appearance.) Here they attempt a MGTOW version of Jeff Foxworthy’s “you know you’re a redneck when …” schtick.
But their grandest failure in the humor department is this … thing, which even the regular MGTOWs couldn’t bring themselves to upvote. I present it in its entirety, because what the fucking fuck:
Bah-dump tssh?
Is there a difference between MGTOW and MG*H*OW? It’s spelled like that all through the text, so I doubt it’s a typo. Maybe the … uh … joke… is more comprehensible if this is cleared up.
@Vanir:
It’s a singular/plural distinction. One MGHOW, two MGTOW.

Thx. Makes sense.
I think that joke much more telling re: the Manosphere than the author might intend.
The MRA fights with the strawfeminist for ages and then shoots himself—as opposed to what most reasonable human beings would do, which is say, “What do you mean, ‘tax’? There are four of us. WTF. How about we just focus on working together to get food and shelter and try to stay alive, yeah?”
The RedPiller gives not the slightest concern over the fact that someone *literally just died* (because I guess suicide is not a big men’s human rights issue after all), and decides a much better priority is to go beat up a woman and berate her until he, too dies—as opposed to what most reasonable human beings would do, which is to say, “Holy crap. Let’s lay off the arguing. Let’s bury/burn/get away from the body, and just focus on working together to get food and shelter and try to stay alive, yeah?”
The MGHOW is similarly completely unconcerned by the dead men around him, and decides the best priority is to try and get it on with the woman who just killed one of those men—as opposed to FREAKING TRYING TO FIND FOOD AND SHELTER LIKE A REASONABLE HUMAN BEING.
*Even if* one were to pretend like the feminist of the joke is even remotely a suitable caricature of real-world feminists, all three of the manosphere dudes are still demonstrating themselves to be utterly irrational and useless in a survival setting. And while I can tell that the MGHOW is *supposed* to be the hero of the story, he’s just as big of a fool as any of them.
The joke *is* much more telling. Argh. This is what happens when I try to rewrite only part of a sentence. 😐
Is the punchline something about how misogynists are so insecure and status conscious that they can never have friends, only competitors in their sad game of trying to coerce women into having sex with them? If so, 6/10.
So the MGHOW isn’t concerned that one of his two remaining companions is prone to physical violence with no provocation (if he survives the head wound he’s received). He also doesn’t seem to care that the feminist now has a weapon.. In the whole joke, the woman is the only one who’s shown any concern over food, and the only one who’s shown any sort of survival instinct.
And how has she not turned them all into her harem? They should totally be feeding her grapes.
The discussion among redditors has been mostly about killing and eating the woman (I’m not kidding), but user “tuilop” has made a substantial contribution to the joke:
Ha ha ha. Haa! Wait, is this is a joke or a short-story?
My fav thing about the blockquote above is that sex with a Red Piller apparently takes “a few moments”.
So the only thing that keeps the manosphere together is their hatred of women?
Joke seems too on the nose then.
In the real world, the MGTOWer would build a door and then subjugate the feminist by refusing to hold it open
Aaaaaand thanks for making me snort my coffee, richardbillericay.
Shadow figured it out.
The joke with the MHOW bit is that MGTOWs think that the essence of feminism is to sit around talking about how men suck. Therefore, they assume that if they pretend to agree that men are terrible, they can get feminists to go along with whatever the MGTOW wants. So to rephrase the horrible grammar for clarity:
MGTOW: Hello, feminist. As we all know, men are terrible at providing sexual pleasure to women. Would you be interested in helping me prove this scientifically? In this study, we will engage in sexual activity, during which I will attempt to bring you to orgasm. I will almost certainly fail, so there’s nothing in it for you in that regard, but although you won’t feel much pleasure, you will feel the satisfaction of contributing to the feminist priority of Proving That Men Are Shit.
Feminist: Your ideas intrigue me and i wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Which sex act will we be testing?
MGTOW: Blowjobs.
A real MRA would build a fake replica of the island, to divert help from passing ships. The important thing isn’t to get off the island, it’s to win points by pranking people. Ha ha, Coast Guard!!
@Kootiepara, @Buttercup Q. Skullpants
Much amuse. Very snort laughs.
This joke reminds me of a certain law book I once proofread. It discussed theoretical situations and how the law applied to those situations. Usually the law books I proofread were very, very dry. But this book actually had characters (A, B, C, and D), and they did things — purchased defective items, fell in a grocery store, and such.
But then in one scenario, A, B, C, and D got in a car and drove up a mountain, where A, B, and C killed D! Whoa! I did not see that coming.
I’m going off topic but has anyone watched Jessica Jones?
I wouldn’t be surprised if UltimateNiceGuy(tm) Kilgrave was the hero trying to save the poor deluded Jessica who is silly enough to think that she can make her own choices from having a relationship with /le gasp A BIG BLACK MAN!!! in the MRA interpretation of that series.
For horror fans I recommend the movie ‘Black Rock’, if you want to see what happens to a rapist and his armed friends on a desert island with three unarmed women. The social commentary and feminist symbolism are excellent, which is probably why this film flew under the radar.
Why this, err, joke made my mind jump to horror films I’m not sure. Maybe it’s just that hilarious.
The really sad part of it all is that the little jokster most likely doesn’t have the sense to be embarrassed. Not that they ever do.
*jokester. But jokster could have its own little joke attached.
First off, I’m with Paradoxical Intention. It’s pretty clear that this ‘joke’ is going to end up with the feminist having a week’s supply of long pig, more if she’s familiar with smoking meat to preserve it.
My wife and I are working through this one veeery slowly. She doesn’t usually go for stuff this dark, but she’s a big fan of Tennant. So we watch one episode, then switch over to something lighter for the rest of the evening–Deep Space Nine or MLP: FiM. Given that we’ll be waiting for the next season to drop in any case (I do hope it gets a second season), this isn’t such a hardship.
I love the way that it treats characters that would normally be looked down on like the weird neighbor and the drug using neighbor.
I’ve seen a lot of series where they wouldn’t matter or they’d be jokes but the series treats those characters as people who are just as worthy of respect as anyone else.
That doesn’t happen often and when most other series and movies do it they do it in a preachy very special episode way.
Not directly related, but the post title made me think of this video…

anon: An excellent point. The show isn’t taking any shortcuts or easy roads, and it’s stronger for it.
@anon @freemage – We’re making our way through it slowly, too, but the hold-up’s on my end.
I’ll watch dark / tense movies all day, but I need a buffer between them and going to sleep (whereas my husband can watch TWD or Jessica Jones and be out 5 minutes later). Since he wakes up at 450 for work, I try to wake up with him, and our kids often drag out bedtime from 8pm to 9pm, it’s one episode tops (depending on what else we have going on that night <_< ) and then reading, cartoons, or something else light (lately, Flight of the Conchords – I'd missed it when it originally aired).
It seems to actually address PTSD outside of a battlefield setting, not sure if I've ever seen that before on an episodic program.
Anyone watching Man in the High Castle?
