So the fellas on the Men Going Their Own Way subreddit are trying their hands at humor. It’s not going very well for them.
Here they try a variation on the old “so-and-so walks into a bar” formula, with Jessica Valenti and Anita Sarkeesian replacing the usual rabbis and priests. (I also make an appearance.) Here they attempt a MGTOW version of Jeff Foxworthy’s “you know you’re a redneck when …” schtick.
But their grandest failure in the humor department is this … thing, which even the regular MGTOWs couldn’t bring themselves to upvote. I present it in its entirety, because what the fucking fuck:
Bah-dump tssh?
And also, it’s really ok for men to be poor. But it’s NOT ok for women to be fat.
In fact, let’s simplify this:
Man = good
Woman* = bad
*Woman = girl
@jsolbakken
We’re very happy for you, unlike the people we actually talk about here. Unless you’re obsessing about why people won’t touch you and insult them because of it or because they’re feminist, we have no qualms with you.
You’re a good one. You’re going your own way and we’re very proud of it. I mean, you didn’t need to tell this to us, we’re aware that there are some people that go there own way although it seems a majority don’t. We aren’t insulting people who actually do what they’re gonna do and not date or deal with women anymore, like you, but rather the hypocrites.
So, yeah. Enjoy your life, be the best you you can be. We support you in this.
…
Bye.
@jsolbakken – If you are as described, godspeed.
Really.
Really, truly.
In fact, you may find that “this side” of the fence is really a-ok about people being either asexual or simply actively choosing to engage in celebacy.
The problem, as dhag points out, is that the vast majority of vocal MGTOWS are not that way.
But, if you are someone who bucks that trend, I (and I think that I can safely say just about everyone here) wishes you all the happiness and fulfillment in the world.
*squints at own post*
I picked up a Reisling and we had it with dinner tonight. Husband poured me a second glass. It had 9.7% ABV and I’m a light drinker.
WOOOOOOOO!
I’m ace myself, and have no interest in sexual relationships. (Of course, I also possess a vagina, so this outlook of mine is no doubt viewed as being unfair to whichever dude is owed sex from me, but, eh.) If you don’t want a relationship with a woman, then you should feel absolutely free to not have one. No one should be forced or pressured into relationships they don’t want.
The only mgtows we take issue with are the ones that see women as subhuman creatures whose only value is sex/baby making/cleaning, and that women are too much trouble to even take advantage of those few decent aspects. Unfortunately, this seems to be the vast majority of mgtows.
The feminist wins! She now has two dead bodies to feast on. Ha!
Feminist: I won’t waste my time on an irredeemably flawed study. Your sample size is obviously too small.
Ba dum psh!
Only one.
The other is a mandatory offering to Katie and our kitty overlords.
NO CONCESSION SHALL BE MADE FOR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES.
They are harsh and unyielding, praise be their whiskers
jsolbakken — Nth’ing the sentiment that we’re not mocking MGTOW for choosing to be single, that’s quite entirely your/their business. Have sex with anyone who’ll consent! Have no sex! Do something else! If it makes you happy and isn’t hurting anyone, have fun! But the MGTOW we mock don’t go, they whine about how horrible women are, and I’m frankly surprised this thread has yet to attract that sort.
WHTM PEEPS!! Victor Frankenstein, go see it! And I’m gonna totally brag, the trapeze circus it opens on? I can do it ^.^ I’ll skip the trapeze geek-out and just go with — James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe, Victorian London, homage to both Young Frankenstein and the original book, all the feels.
AFAIKT the punchline is “MGTOWs confuse feminists by trying to use big words and not making sense”, which I guess is technically true, just not very funny.
@Grace – That is awesome 🙂
@athyco – 😛
“As of 06.2015, the average American female weighs 166.2 pounds. The same as the average man – in 1960.”
Oh, look, Google found me the source for this damning evidence of female fatness!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2669-2004Oct27.html
The study does indeed show that the average American man in 1960 weighed 166.3 pounds and the average American woman (sorry, feeeeeemale) today weighs 164.3 pounds, which is almost what the factoid says. But it also shows that the average American man now weighs 191 pounds, a much greater weight gain. Men have put on more weight than women in the last 50 years, with older men experiencing the largest change. This is consistent with other studies finding that men are markedly more likely than women to be overweight or obese.
But, yes, MRAs will tell you it’s perfectly okay for men to be fat. Like most things, it’s only wrong when women do it.
P.S. feeeeeeeeeeemale
Apparently the internet thinks those two couldn’t save the hot mess that is the plot. They totally did. Slow start, sure, couldn’t pick a genre, sure, pointless romance, yeah but circus family is best family — theater family is the same way, I suspect this was lost on the people who decided that Igor and Lorilei (sp?) should be an item. But too much a mess for those two to pull it together? Did we watch the same movie? Or am I just that used to drunken science ideas and circus?
So yeah, take my enthusiasm with salt I guess? But it’s a fun movie, with lots of eye candy (plenty not for straight men!). Doesn’t pass the beschdel test, but big surprise there. *shrug* enjoyed, would watch again.
Sorta on topic — with the older age ranges, I wonder how much of that is a result of folks born during the Great Depression dying. Might be wrong, it’s a half hunch after all, but childhood nutrition seems relevant here. Not even the “stop eating fast food” crap, but the depression, then rationing, then the baby boom — interesting to see how this trend continues.
166lbs seems an entirely healthy average weight though. The average American woman is 5’5″, which means that the hypothetical Susan Average would have a BMI of 27.5, which is hardly a cause for concern.
This is not to say that BMI isn’t a flawed measure of course.
^Not to mention that people have gotten taller as history has progressed (mainly due to the availability of nutritious food during developmental years, I believe), and height is correlated with weight, because the taller you are, the more of you there is. So if the average heights have increased since the 1960s, then the average weights would also increase.
@Catalpa, The weight increase is larger than the height increase would account for. The Washington post article linked to before points out that USians have slowed in terms of height increase compared to other nations. Possibly due to lower nutritional intake and poorer health care compared to other nations with bigger height increases.
Of course the article talks about Americans in general and not only women.
jsolbakken:
You might want to avoid language like this in the future. The sounds more like you think of interaction with women as a transaction… You have to get through all the bothersome stuff like talking or treating her like a person just to get the product, sex. And these days women are just sooo much trouble!
Eh, I think it’s great not to base your self worth on whether or not you are having sex or not.
I do like the one about how “not having sex with drunk people” makes one a MGTOW. Funny, I didn’t realise not being a rapist was a MGTOW thing.
