New Theory: Feminists argue with misogynists online because they are desperate for male attention

The Dark Triad: Pretty much a synonym for "giant douchebag."
The Dark Triad: Pretty much a synonym for “giant douchebag.”

So I was skimming my way through the comment section on a recent Telegraph article on MRAs and the Red Pill. Naturally, the comment section was filled to overflowing with angry comments from an assortment of familiar MRA and “Red Pill” names. I happened to notice some, well, intriguing contributions to the discussion from a fellow I didn’t know: DarkTriadMan, first name, Ivan.

Though he avoids the “red-pill, blue-pill” lingo that so fascinates so many reactionary. woman-hating doofballs, Ivan Adultman — sorry, Ivan DarkTriadMan — basically thinks we live in the Matrix:

The dark world is lit from age to age with the light of reason and progress, with technology and science, and our creature comforts are blinding. But the reality is quite different. Western civilization is nothing more than a teasing curtain, increasingly ridiculous and tottering, drawn over the dark world that remains as the base nature of creation.

How can a curtain be “teasing” or “tottering,” much less both at the same time?

But never mind, because Ivan DarkTriadMan opens this “teasing curtain” to reveal the DARK TRUTHS about women. Or at least about the teenage girls he fantasizes about having sex with.

Dear readers, if you’re not in the mood to read some seriously skeevy, rapey shit, you should probably skip the next quote.

The half-dozen teenage girls twittering and chatting and giggling over their cellphones and taking selfies of their perfect clothes and bodies and hair are an illusion. The reality after the power goes out is that they are a huddled group of frightened, beaten commodities kept for the amusement of the warlord and any of his men he chooses to reward. They don’t giggle and take selfies and they don’t dare talk back when they are told to present their naked rears.

Um, what? Somehow i doubt that the readers of the Telegraph are much interested in hearing about the creepy Gorean sexual fantasies of one Ivan DarkTriadMan.

But apparently he doesn’t think his creepy sexual fantasies are creepy — or, for that matter, fantasies.

Nope. Ivan DarkTriadMan is convinced that teenage girls taking selfies, feminists who find him repellent, and presumably every other woman in the world, are all secretly in lust with the giant hunk of man that is DarkTriadMan.

As he explains in another comment, feminists (or maybe all women?)

change from whining to salivating at the drop of a hat when the male they truly desire walks past. You cannot change biology, although you can layer over it with false, blathering frippery.

Yeah, that’s right, even those man-hating feminist harpies are totally into him.

Such creatures as our local feminist thrive on the concern and disgust of men. It is through such engagement they find value, as the engagement and attention of men is not otherwise available to them on the open sexual market that forms the basis of human interactions.

I’ll let Jennifer Lawrence handle this one.

jennifer-lawrence-10

Presumably, when feminist women post comments on message boards mocking him for “living in your own weird little world” and noting that “you talk about women like you have never spoken to one,” they’re just flirting.

They totally want the DarkTriadMan.

PS: I’m not sure what sort of “frippery” DarkTriadMan was talking about, but some of you might enjoy this Frippery. Well, Frippertronics, to be more precise.

PI,
Yeah, it all boils down to “I can do whatever I want to women and it’s not really rape/harassment/abuse.”

Pretty much. And again, that’s terrifying.

I really don’t understand the guys that seem to believe that the way people act when they are happy, well-fed, comfortable, and healthy is somehow not demonstrative of their true personality, and that the actions that people might take when they are desperate to survive are their ‘true nature’. When people are coerced or faced with terrible situations, they do things they would not otherwise even consider, because humans (and most sentient creatures) have a very strong drive to survive. And that side of us can be ugly, yes. But I think that our individual personalities and natures shine through most strongly when we have the option to choose what we wish to do. For obvious reasons.

That’s actually kind of a sub-plot in the anime Death Parade, for anyone interested in a good “What happens after we die?” kind of anime.

The whole premise is that once you die, your memories of your last day alive are erased, so you think you’re still alive, and then you’re judged by Arbiters, emotionless beings whose only purpose is to judge human souls. They put you in a game against someone else, and they make it super extreme as well to “draw out your inner nature”.

One character, a girl who lost all of her memories, and therefore can’t be judged until she remembers, pointed out that these people think they’re fighting for their lives, so it’s only natural that the people being judged sometimes do terrible awful things in order to save themselves from an awful situation, and thus the games, which have been rigged to make it really extreme and awful for the people playing, aren’t fair at all.

It’s a good anime. One of my newer favorites.

Basically it seems that what this guy is saying boils down to “You’d fuck me if I had a knife to your throat, so you should also be obligated to fuck me in absence of that. Otherwise you’re a hypocrite”.

Of course he would. Because it’s the only way his worldview can stay intact. He’d rather make up a highly illogical set of rules than actually question why he believes what he believes. Because the truth is a big, scary thing.

And the truth is, women don’t want to fuck him because he’s an asshole who thinks that women are obligated to fuck him.

@RosaDeLava 5.36pm 20 NOV –

I mean, besides the assumption that people are inherently violent and selfish (which, citation needed, please), once we know that humans organize in societies, isn’t developing things like agriculture and laws a no-brainer? If I want to preserve myself, I’ll stick with the group. If I want to stick with the group, I’ll adapt to the group and do what I must to make it thrive.

It’s worth noting that even the most “uncivilised” (scare quotes deliberate, please read this in the sense of “not city-dwelling”) societies have a form of social organisation and codes of conduct. Even in Australia, where the Indigenous peoples were missing three out of three of the necessary pre-requisites for agriculture (fertile soil, predictable water supply, and ungulate placental herbivore dung) the various tribes and groups developed a complex social code, and created a society which functioned successfully and continuously for over forty thousand years… which argues it was a flexible and adaptable society as well (they also developed a form of agriculture which didn’t require any of the pre-requisites!). Oddly enough, it seems the majority of Indigenous Australian cultures didn’t require a systemic power imbalance between socially perceived genders until the European invasion in 1788 started changing things – what was interpreted as a systemic power imbalance (by European anthropologists who had grown up in a system with a systemic power imbalance, and therefore looked for evidence of this same systemic power imbalance in all the other cultures they encountered – and you’d be amazed how much evidence for it they found by only concentrating on one side of the story!) was actually a system where all contributions were valued.

@ Katz 6.50pm

The thing which first sprang to mind on looking at that image was “how do that guy’s internal organs work?”

@megpie
Don’t worry, I get it ^^
And this is, I think, the point. People don’t actually want to live in a violent society – and because of it I honestly think those manospherians who think that violence is just the way of life and men love it have never been in a situation where they feared they would ve murdered – and, everywhere, societies have tried to mantain internal piece. I won’t say that people won’t do bad things when left unchecked, but you’d think there would be room to include basic empathy in this argument.
It’s really cool when you see how gender roles change when you really look at each individual culture. I always assumed the gender roles we(?) are accostumated with became so prevalente because they worked well with societies that were involved in large scale conflicts and focused on territorial expansion, but my guess on that is about as good as any evopsych fanboy.

And in regards to the bit about agriculture, that is really cool. Do you know any sources or the name of the tribes so I can look it up?

I’m going to guess they’d say that the man is only doing it so he can show off to women to get sexual favors… If it happens in an environment where there are only men… I don’t know, I’d like to say they’d get so stunned they’d just sit there for half-an-hour without moving, but they will probably claim the feminist(m) was brainwashed.

Buttercup — “I also don’t understand how someone who scores high on dark triad traits can, with a straight face, lament the fakery and facades of civilized feeeeeemales. Isn’t Machiavellianism all about coming other people?”

They think everyone else is just like them, that everyone else is also a conning manipulative predator. So they’d have such an easier time conning people if they’d just stop conning back. I seriously don’t think they understand what actual feelings are, things like love and empathy only exist as a means to an end and, unlike with other animals, for humans that end is rarely “rub behind the ears!!”

… I think I just realized why my cat introductions are going well, I lived with one of these guys for a year. Compared to him cats are damn easy to read.

– Dalrock’s blog header is “A happily married father”. So he’s supposedly got this great life, great wife, and great kid, and he’s STILL a Manospherian.

I don’t get it. Or……. I don’t believe it.

Another dimension of bullshit in this case is how, based entirely on his post, you’d think there are legions of grape-starved feminists scouring the internet for misogyny and arguing with people about it.

Which is funny because last I checked, I had to avoid youtube comments and pretty much ANY comment section of an article involving the manosphere since there’s a 100% chance it’s filled with angry misogynists spewing a bunch of crap and picking fights with anyone who dares suggest that women are people.

Example of implicit sexism # 7.42*10^5:

Misogynists starting fights? Totally fine, it’s how the world works get over it
Feminists responding to misogynists starting fights? Unfair. Mean bullies, CENSORSHIP, LEAVE MY FROZEN PEACHES ALONE.

That anime sounds awesome! I’m definitely checking it out.

@Katz been a while since I read the Barsoom books but they were nowhere near this level of sexism that the guy in the post believes. Hell in those books women while constantly Damsels in Distress, oversexualized, and occasionally sexually victimized once they are saved by the hero tend to then be presented as equal fighters and adventures who can hold there own and not property of said rescuer as a reward. Green Martians like the one portrayed in the picture actually live in a society that asexual.

This is not to excuse the series of its sexism because it is pretty sexist (and incredibly racist). Im just pointing out its sad when a pulp novel from the 1890s has more progressive views of women than a dude hundred of years later.

Uck. Why did I get the feeling he was fapping to that whole bit with the teenaged girls? I feel dirty.

Also, these jokers have a seriously ingrown perception of reality, if they engage in the kind of logic gyrations where expressions of abject nausea on the part of women must secretly mean they want to bone these wannabe Dark Triadists. Vomiting = horniness isn’t the kind of equation people usually come up with.

In the kind of post-apocalyptic world these wankstains are envisioning? They’d be first up against the wall, because any group with a sense of empathy and fellow-feeling (and there’d be more of them than the manospherians care to admit) would see them as the dangerous destabilizing influences that they truly are and not fuck around with removing them by any means possible once the wannabe warlords started to try to go Immortan Joe on them.

They don’t think the ramifications of postapocalyptic society through either. I kind of like my health and dental care and not dying from something like diarrhea, and those aren’t big features in that kind of world. Wonder how alfalfa manly they’ll feel once that abscess *really* starts brewing in that back molar.

P.S. Okay, I know the reason why I got the feeling he was fapping to it was because he probably *was* fapping to it, but details. I don’t want to even think about it.

Always with the post apocalyptic fantasies. It’s like they want it simply out of spite. They probably know life is going to be just as crappy for them* but because they see that the women will be put in their place, no matter how bad it is for everybody else, they win because women are harmed.

*Unless they think they’re going to be the warlords or part of roving bands of marauders they imagine will be everywhere.

I wouldn’t put it past them to be so unintelligent and self-centered as to think they’d be on the top of the food chain. Fact is they’d probably be Cannon Fodder Serf #347. This fails to penetrate their skulls, however.

Double torso’d Thark looks super awkward.

Pulp covers from forever ago are kind of ridiculous and apparently think that thinking about internal organ structure and placement is too hard when you can just draw more bulging muscles!

I remember reading and liking the books as a kid, though, albeit with a good side of “Can we please just have one relate-able female character on this entire planet? Please?”

MRAs thrive on the concern and disgust of women. It is through such engagement they find value, as the engagement and attention of women is not otherwise available to them.

Revised for accuracy.

Remember Paul Elam on “20/20” being interviewed by a female reporter? With a look of deep concern and not a little disgust, she asked why he used abusive language to describe women and feminists. His reply: “To get your attention.” I swear that he was flirting with her.

@littleknown

Yeah, every time I read that “power goes out” / “teenage girls” / “naked rears” fantasy, all I can think is, “This guy really, really wishes he could be an ISIS fighter gifted with orphaned child sex slaves.”

Sure, but as a fantasy only. He’s not actually going to go over there and be cold, hungry, scared, and maybe dead. But like all MRAs, Redpillers, PUAs, etc., he’s got a lot of purple prose to describe his fantasy.

It seems to be a common trope, not just in the manosphere, that treating women like people is a luxury only wealthy societies can afford–even James Howard Kunstler, who I have worked with on a project where our sensibilities are a little more closely aligned, has said something about how the world of the future will abandon feminism as ‘reality’ sets in. The situation is in fact exactly the opposite–some clever person invented the term ‘foul-weather feminism’ to describe the actual scenario:

You’re right, I’m being utterly unfair to Burroughs. His books were even equal-opportunity on the nudity front. They’re really quite fun reads for anyone willing to overlook the eyeroll-worthy moments.

(For anyone curious, it’s from the John Carter of Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the alien is a Thark. They’re not always drawn that awkwardly.)

When men project their feelings onto women (i.,e. it is they who want women’s attention, but the reverse is conveniently constructed as ‘truth’), they can justify all of the violence and hate-spew that automatically follows. It’s the same mechanism by which men construct: “You’re just a misandrist! A man-hater!” Pure projection. And so, so juvenile and transparent.

We have plenty of examples of societies breaking down to surmise what a post apocalyptic scenario would look like.

Some form of very hierarchical feudal type society controlled by hydraulic despotism. The people with the best skillsets to exploit this tend to be those with a background in organised crime or the military. Eventually one of the regional warlords defeats or comes to an accommodation with his rivals and ends up as King/president or whatever. If the society gets past subsistence level then some form of state altruism may come into effect; prior to that it’s usually left to individuals and small groups to take care of their own if they wish to and can spare the resources.

One thing’s for sure though, if your site skillset is harrasing people using the Internet you won’t be in charge in the new setup. At best you might be a minion for the new aristocracy, but if the serf class can whup your ass when it’s a real fight not a video game then you won’t be much use, so you’ll probably be down the mines or a foodsource.

Funny. I always thought women had it so great because we’re all covered in suitors at all times. Even the 5s and under who don’t deserve male attention get it all the time. So why do we need to be doing all these things to get attention from men when we all have beta orbiters and cock carousels at our disposal?

Oh boy, where to start?

I don’t bother arguing with misogynists. I know they won’t listen to me.

Their attitudes towards young women and girls are very disturbing to me. Not the lust these guys feel towards them – I can understand that. I’ve been a target of it, myself, in my younger days.

It’s difficult for me to articulate, but I’m going to try. I guess, it all boils down to their failure to see women as human beings. They don’t seem to realize that these teenage girls are still maturing. They’re going to engage in some testing of boundaries and some questionable behavior. They are going to exhibit bad judgment at times, date “inappropriate” men, etc; BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT YET MATURE. The same way young men are not yet mature, get into trouble, etc.

When I look back at my youth, all I can do is shake my head.
