An Austin woman has come up with a rather innovative way to protest a new “campus carry” law that will allow Texans to carry concealed weapons on campuses: what if gun control advocates were to show up on the University of Texas at Austin carrying not guns, but … dildos?
Naturally, she’s calling it #CocksNotGlocks.
As Jessica Jin, the woman behind the proposed protest, explained on the Facebook page she set up for the event,
“You’re carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO.'”
Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play.
She’s got a point: As the Washington Post has noted, for every “justified homicide” carried out with a gun — that is, for every time someone kills someone with a gun in an act of legitimate self-defense — there are 34 gun homicides, 78 gun suicides, and 2 people killed accidentally with guns.
Predictably, gun enthusiasts have responded to Jin’s protest — which isn’t even scheduled until the law takes effect next August — with the sort of behavior that suggests once again that they are the absolute last people in the world who should ever be entrusted with guns.
And that includes this guy:
The gun enthusiasts have been flooding Jin and her Facebook page with threats, angry rants, and an assortment of obscene pictures. Some of their, er, wisdom:
You can find more along these lines in Raw Storys post on the protest.
This guy, meanwhile, has been posting offensive pic after offensive pic. A few of the more palatable:
The threats have been worrying enough to Jin that she’s contacted the local police.
Just as worryingly, one self-described “Anarchist, Atheist, Asshole” by the name of Christopher Cantwell has decided to doxx her, posting her address and phone number on his blog and informing his readers that “I can confirm the number is working. I called her, and she called me back and left a voicemail with her name.”
Because why not give angry gun owners what amounts to a map to her home?
If Cantwell’s name sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve met him before: I wrote about last year when I discovered him on Twitter telling numerous people to go kill themselves in assorted inventive ways.
Oh, and did I mention he wrote not one, not two, but nine articles for A Voice for Men last year? And that AVFM’s Paul Elam and Dean Esmay responded to my post about his Twitter “activism” … by telling me to kill myself? Ah, memories!
Happily, gun control supporters have rallied around Jin and her protest, posting supportive comments and repurposed gun fetishist propaganda with dildos taking the place of guns.
So far, more than 4000 people on Facebook say they will be attending the protest, and there’s talk about getting a sex toy company to sponsor the event.

Ahahaha. Anybody who thinks that everybody here is a middle-class liberal is clearly not paying a lick of attention. Spoiler alert: Not even close. Not even close to being close.
A bit ironic, considering you couldn’t figure out what I was saying.
Anyway, I didn’t read the rules, that’s my bad.
We could waste a lot of time going back and forth with you about the nature of violence in a capitalist society and the complicity of the petty bourgeois “tech liberals,” or whatever they call themselves, but that would be boring. I hate arguing on the Internet with people unless I just want to waste their time and make them feel gross. I don’t want to do that to you, even though we have some serious ideological differences. Your posts are, in general, ok.
Just shut up.
Let’s not have this argument,
That’s what I said. Come on, you’ve gotten through Butler’s amazing abuse of syntax. Maybe I was too vague for late night Internet reading though.
…that seems likely, given you went from “eh, at least it’s self inclusive I guess” to “um, really not middle class, like, at all”.
The survey is well out of date, and definitely had some issues with cultural definitions of class (Brits be weird y’all), but we weren’t any more middle class or educated than you’d expect given the populations commenting (mostly, but not nearly exclusively, white cis women in the US, EU, UK, and assorted other countries with English as a first language). If anything, minority groups, excepting racial groups, were a bit over represented — surprising number of people without any college, and a not insignificant number who didn’t finish HS. I can prolly find it if anyone’s interested in, uh, four(?) year old data (fuck have I really been here that long?). That was readers, not just commenters, so those of us commenting might be of a higher class or more educated, idk on that one.

….uh, I’m gonna sidle around the current weirdness, so I can respond to Dreadnought’s question. Kootiepatra, Catalpa, amd contrapangloss already said it better, but for what it’s worth, Dreadnought, I feel your pain. We live in a society that celebrates and rewards extroverts, and doesn’t do much to help people overcome loneliness. The fact that you’re even asking that question means no, you’re not part of the problem.
Social awkwardness itself isn’t the problem. The problem is when someone deliberately makes others feel uncomfortable, gets off on their discomfort, and repeats the behavior even after being asked to stop. A lot of abusers and creepers, in fact, are extremely charming and manipulative. They know full well what they’re doing, and are adept enough at mind-reading and social interactions to be able to use that knowledge to their advantage. I’d much rather interact with an honest, awkward, socially clumsy guy who means well but accidentally puts their foot in it from time to time, than someone who ignores boundaries and runs roughshod over my feelings. Creepers create friction and social costs on rejection, because they won’t listen and won’t take no for an answer, and that’s terrifying. It’s the difference between feeling uncomfortable, and feeling unsafe.
Hang in there – you might be a loner, but you’re not alone. Lots of people struggle with relating to others. You seem like you’re pretty self-aware, and that’s half the battle right there.
Reblogged this on Sacrificial Tomato.
Did…did someone seriously start an argument and then go “I don’t want to have this argument. So everyone else shut up”?

In the midst of a discussion about social awkwardness, no less.
Has Scribbles’ account been hacked?
I got the impression that Scribbles brain was hacked by sleepiness.
Thank you for reminding me that I need to crackdown on the ex’s company site AGAIN, apparently me doing your site design is asshole bait — trying to log in as variations on my nym is kinda a dead giveaway you aren’t random! And hey assholes? Web designer, programmer, and network administrator… you’re not getting in, and going after a company site because I pissed you off is royally rude.
So I meant to post something about this on the latest Roosh post, as an answer to Obsidian but mostly out of personal interest. Maybe I can hijack the discussion of social awkwardness and dating myths here for my nefarious ends.
Basically, can anyone recommend some social-justice-friendly advice columns and social skills sites? It would maybe be cool to keep a a list handy as a quick rebuttal to concern trolling about poor mens needing help, but mostly I ask because I am a poor mens who needs help. I know Captain Awkward, which is literally the best, and a couple sites that Captain Awkward has linked. Also Prudie, though I haven’t checker her in a while. I found a couple other very good advice columnists through CA, but they were specialized in women’s questions.
Anything new enough that I would have a decent shot of getting a question answered would be especially cool.
@ Orion: It’s been a long while since I last read it, but I used to enjoy Dr. Nerdlove.

Thanks guys, your replies mean a lot to me because there are few things worse I’d rather become than a douche who actively contributes to a society that’s more hostile towards women.
Wow, while i must admit this site is impressive regarding some issues, i’m afraid i cannot commend this aproach on gun policies.
I don’t know where to start.
Gun owners are portrayed as agressive jerks (which some of them may be, just as any human) but in the comments i have to read the rant of this user who starts an argument an then tells everybody to shut up, classy. I feel inclined to believe that some (not all of course) anti-gun people are just projecting their shortcomings (low tolerance for instance) on other people. I mean, US has even less firearm related deaths than my country, obviously gun are not the problem, people are the problem.
Then i read some suggestions for self defense: Are you guys willing to go to the extreme on using a F***ING PEN for protecting yourselves just to avoid a gun? just a tiny percentage of gun-related deaths in US are due to “mass shootings” mind you.
Then there is the reasoning that gun are not useful for self defense, i mean REALLY??? are ARMIES/MILITIAS/SECURITY FORCES OF THE ENTIRE WORLD wrong for using fireams??? this is wrong on so many levels i don’t know what to say.
Deprive someone of their means of defense is utterly disgusting. If you want to be a victim be my guest, but you have no right to make that choice for me.
And finally, restricting gun sales can prevent gun violence? how that policy worked against drugs? you can’t erase guns.
End rant. You are welcome to reply.
I found this beautiful post in the internet:
“What you have to believe in order to believe in gun control”:
That guns are the real cause of crime, but we will blame and jail the owner of said gun for the crime, even if the owner wasn’t the person involved.
That a mugger will kill you in the half-second it takes to draw from the holster, but won’t harm you while you dial 911 on your cell phone, talk to the dispatcher and wait half an hour for the cops to arrive.
That gun control works, which is why there are no illegal weapons in Northern Ireland or Beirut.
That the Second Amendment only applies to flintlocks, just as the First Amendment only applies to quills and lead type.
That the proper response to an attack is to call the police, but only unarmed police, because “Violence never settles anything.”
That it’s wrong to make snide, sexist comments about women, unless the comments are about women who own guns.
That a gun with an 11 round magazine is dangerous, but a gun with fifteen 10 round magazines is much safer.
That a hijacker could easily take a gun away from a pilot, but the hundreds of passengers aboard would then be unable to take the gun away from the hijacker.
That if there’d been a gun aboard American Airlines Flight 11, someone could have been hurt.
That rapists prefer to attack armed women so they can take the guns and use them against the victims.
That 1 firearm owner in 10,000 will commit an act of violence in his or her lifetime, and this is far more frightening than the 25% of drivers who will cause a serious or fatal accident.
That you should rely on police in lieu of your gun, just as you should rely on a dentist in lieu of your toothbrush.
That car keys, umbrellas and hairspray are good tools for self-defense, despite the fact that police continue to carry guns.
That Washington DC’s low murder rate of 80.6 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, but Arlington, Virginia’s high murder rate of 1.6 per 100,000 is attributable to the lack of gun control.
That the depressed and emotionally disturbed should not be allowed to own guns that shoot bullets with 250 ft-lbs of energy, but should be allowed to own 4000 lb cars with 1,136,000 ft-lbs of energy (at 65 mph).
That “assault weapons” are “very powerful” but big game hunters oddly prefer .30-06s and .375 H&Hs.
That people buy guns as “substitute penises,” because they know that only people with small penises ever get attacked by criminals.
That Hitler and Stalin didn’t disarm citizens, only Jews, Gypsies, gays, unionists and other “undesirables.” (Yes, a liberal member of the MMM actually said this in the Washington Post.)
That to properly understand Nazi gun control, one must consider the “legitimate fears” they had of the Jewish population. (This was another self-proclaimed liberal. I’m beginning to wonder.)
That families with children should not be allowed to own guns for safety reasons, just as they aren’t allowed to own dogs, power tools, or toxic chemicals.
That it’s wrong to destroy someone’s life over an administrative crime by jailing them and impoverishing their family, unless that crime is to own a gun.
That a law that allows someone to keep doing “X” that has been legal for years, in the face of another, badly written law that says they can’t do “Y”, is a “loophole.”
I’m working on my time machine, Joaquin, but it’s still early days. Unfortunately, I’m just not going to be able to bring you back to last October, so that you can voice your opposition to this protest. Sad face. ?
Why does this guy keep necroing old posts about guns? I wonder how many sites he’s doing this on?
Quite a few actually.
And I wonder on how many of those sites you actually manage to get people to engage with the bullshit you peddle.
Sorry, my personal policy is one troll a day, and there’s already been one about ten hours ago.
Maybe tomorrow though ?
Necro troll came back to brag about how he spends his life dropping boring pro gun rants all over the internet. That’s kind of sad.
If you carry a gun, you are at least 4.46 times more likely to be shot yourself:
http://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/abs/10.2105/AJPH.2008.143099?journalCode=ajph
Personally, I sleep much more soundly at night, with no gun in my home that an angry spouse or curious toddler could use on me (or themselves). No gun that could be stolen by someone looking for drug money. No gun that a disgruntled teenager can “borrow” and take to school.
A mugger probably *would* shoot you in that half second, especially if his gun is already drawn. And a home invader isn’t gonna stand around while you go unlock the gun safe, take off the trigger lock, assemble the gun, unlock the separately stored ammunition, and load the bullets. (You *are* properly and safely storing your guns and ammo, aren’t you?)
The rest of us don’t care to live in your Wild West fantasy world.
“Quite a few actually”
?? oh random necro troll, at least you’re more amusing than Gert.
