4channers: Women being sluts caused the Umpqua Community College shootings

meganfoxboy600
The World According to /r9k/

It’s still not clear if the Umpqua Community College shooter, now identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, posted his plans on 4chan’s /r9k/ board the day before the shooting, or if the post, warning of an impeding shooting at a school in the northwest, was just a bizarre and highly improbable coincidence.

What is clear is that a lot of 4channers, particularly the “robots” of /r9k/, are offering the now-dead killer their sympathy and support. Indeed, in one thread on the board today, 4channers are blaming the shootings on women being sluts. Sluts, that is, who won’t sleep with them.

The thread starts with a post attacking “sexual liberalism” for allegedly leaving most men celibate while women have casual sex only with a small minority of the most attractive men.

Yep. As one critical anon put it, the OP’s “grand plan” seems to be “to force women in relationships with men they neither like nor are attracted to.”

Another anon thought the problem could be addressed, at least partially, on a voluntary basis:

imo spread on social media that October 1st should be pity fuck a nerd day to help raise awareness of violence and to help save lives

Not all anons were quite so, er, optimistic:

>while they just compromise Hahahahahahaha The only women who compromise are prostitutes. All other women have already decided what they will and won't do and what they already did with Chad and don't want to do again. And they're far more demanding because they know if you don't do what they want they can just get Chad to take care of it. Of course men will be angry, they have no similar recourse.

Others, meanwhile, pinned their hopes on the inevitable arrival of sexbots:

In a decade or so companion bots will be a thing and nobody will have to care about women again.

Still others had even more radical “solutions.”

Maybe if somoene did an outstanding massacre this issue could be discussed publically... Like, the guy kills a lot of people and then explain this issue to the world via live camera or something.

4chuna

The solution: Mandatory fucking sessions, b-daily and randomly paired. Society is finally fixed.

If at this point you feel your faith in humanity slipping away, you will be perhaps be slightly reassured by the fact that a good number of those posting in the thread thought the OP and those who agreed with him were a bunch of self-absorbed, self-pitying assholes.

One anon got this point across with admirable succinctness.

 >'MARRY ME OR I'LL KILL YOU ALL' Kek, Robots are such fucking entitled little shits.

“Robot,” in this context, refers to the denizens of /r9k/, not the “companion robots” that others in the thread think will ultimately make women obsolete.

Here’s a download link to Catie Wayne’s thoughts on online harassment, reprinted above, but not too clear. They’re worth reading.

[TRIGGER WARNING FOR DESCRIPTION OF VIOLENTLY MISOGYNISTIC CARTOON –df]

The cartoon is something that she found in which a woman representing her is shot in the face and and her corpse sodomized. Apparently in the eye socket. No shit.

o.Ō?

1) What’s Catie Wayne have to do with anything?

2) Add me to the list of people with mental illness that you can’t speak for. You wouldn’t be offended, that’s dandy, you’ve now got three of us saying mental illness and misogyny have fuck all to do with each other.

3) No, it’s not a mental illness. Please refer to SpongeBob up above there. In short, and in theory, mental illnesses either cause the patient distress or impair their ability to function. In practice that cold clinical definition gets wobbly, but excepting a few of the -philias (where engaging in them with a non-consenting partner is relevant), that’s the theory. (Citation: various psychology professors from when I was in college, which was before DSM-V came out, but I don’t think it’s changed)

I think Lundy Bancroft put it best when he said, in his book “Why Does He Do That,” that while certain mental illnesses might exacerbate or exaggerate abusive behaviors, the behaviors themselves stem from unexamined privilege and attitudes of entitlement. The underlying entitlement does not stem from the illness.

Yes! This. I’m a unipolar depressive myself. Been alone much longer and more often than not. By “incel” “logic” (note the quotes) I should have shot up a school or ten by now. But I’m no more likely to do that than a hemophiliac is to stick up a blood bank. It would be self-destructive and counterproductive. And also, I’m female, and not an entitled git. And I don’t come from US gunhugger culture, which is the biggest factor in all this, and also the most taboo. It’s ALWAYS “too soon” to talk about that…every time another mass shooter runs amuck. But the channers always blame women and liberalism, even when a conservative man is the sole culprit.

Welcome, BTW!

Felix Ray – I think you are crossing a line here. Provide links by all means, but they need trigger warnings. I wish I had not read what you wrote, I already know how bad the threats can be – I didn’t need explicit details ..

“And I don’t come from US gun hugger culture, which is the biggest factor in all this, and also the most taboo. ”

I don’t follow the for or against gun arguments so I don’t know what is taboo. But the US has stringent gun laws that maybe are not being enforced. As far as I’m aware (or maybe just assuming), most of the people committing gun violence have obtained their guns illegally, no? I’m a tree hugger myself.

About mental illness, anyone who would do this sort of thing surely has to be a psychopath and psychopathy is a mental illness isn’t it?

“They don’t care about the books, the gym, the travel, their cultural outlook, ect., only about getting laid.”

As long as everything is consensual, that’s ok.

“And Roosh isn’t doing anything to tell men to be more attractive, that’s for damn sure.”

I didn’t have Roosh in mind when I wrote that. He’s an immoral hypocrite

“As far as I’m aware (or maybe just assuming), most of the people committing gun violence have obtained their guns illegally, no?”

No. For example the Oregon Shooter:

“Investigators found 14 firearms connected to the shooter, authorities said.
(…)
All the weapons were legally obtained by the shooter or family members over the past three years through a federally licensed firearms dealer, authorities said.”

I mean, that may be true if you’re talking about gun violence in general. but these mass shootings are often committed by adults with no real criminal record so they can just buy the guns.

I’m always struck by how creepily similar every talking point that comes out of a random misogynists mind seems to be. It really is like they’re all part of some cult and they’ve been indoctrinated with the specific ideals that they must always parrot come hell or high water.

“Chad! Chad!!! CHAD!!!” they cry, arms held wide to the sky as they lament the ‘fact’ that 80% of women sleep with 20% of men, because math and logic.

No, one doesn’t need to be a psychopath to be able to murder lots of people.

OK but if the gun is not registered in my name and I use it, then its illegally obtained, no?

I always supposed the attribution of mental illness to people who commit atrocities was mostly an attempt to create distance:
“This person who committed an atrocity seems to have a lot of things in common with me. But I’m a good person, and I wouldn’t do that. So this person must be naturally bad! Or crazy! Yeah, that must be it!”
This sort of reasoning is not only bad because of what it implies about people with mental ilness, it also allows people to believe that they can’t commit attrocities because they’re “normal”.

And didn’t we have enough examples, thorough history, of people who agree with attrocities when given the right stimulus?

I don’t remember that retweet. Sounds like mockery to me.

I don’t think you know a lot about Catie Wayne. As far as I’m concerend she’s a feminist icon. Before anybody cared about online harassment of women, Catie Wayne became a target of 4chan harassment. They made her a meme, and they thought that made her their property.

I also think it’s fundamentally sexist of you to assume that my fanship is based on some kind of lurid sexual interest. I’m friends with her mother, for god’s sake.

One, why is Catie Wayne relevant to this discussion beyond you thinking she’s a “feminist icon” and using her for brownie points?

Two, lolwut?

I’m sorry, did you just say that it’s “fundamentally sexist” of SFHC to assume that you’re creeping on someone? Because you’re friends with their mother?

Even if we did take that bit at face value (I’m not), that has to be the lamest excuse. Plenty of men have creeped on women regardless of who they were related to. Hell, I could share some horror stories, if you really want to argue that point.

I wasn’t talking about that. I was talking about the stolen picture of an ostensibly 18-year-old girl (who looks 16 at the most) some spambot was using on FB that you copied over to Twitter to publicly drool over. Complete with “She’s not slutty.” That was fifty different kinds of disgusting, dude.

>>One, why is Catie Wayne relevant to this discussion beyond you thinking she’s a “feminist icon” and using her for brownie points?

I didn’t bring it up. I was explicitly told that my fandom was incompatible to opposing sexism. I don’t think it was part of this discussion.

@Paradoxical

I’m sorry, did you just say that it’s “fundamentally sexist” of SFHC to assume that you’re creeping on someone? Because you’re friends with their mother?

It’s fundamentally sexist because it’s an extension of the old WHITE KNIGHT bullshit that a says that a man who defends a woman MUST be motivated by sinister sexual motives. It’s using a sexist stereotype as some kind of evidence of something.
.
If you’re actually accusing me of something, there are really only three possibilities

1. You have special psychic powers, and can read my mind over the internet.

2. You can actually point to an instance of me putting the moves on this girl, who lives 3000 miles away, 140 characters at a time.

or

3. You can’t imagine any other possibility, and you’re trying to hold me accountable for the deficit in your imagination.

So which is it?

Actually “to creep” to means “move slowly and carefully, especially in order to avoid being heard or noticed.” You’re pulling an old cyberbully trick where you can’t really accuse me of actually doing anything so you use a word with no specific meaning. It’s all innuendo. Since you’re not actually saying anything, I can scarcely deny it

I don’t know what you’re referring to, but if you’re going to comb over my twitter page looking for things to bully me about, your opinion of what’s disgusting doesn’t really interest me.

@Felix Ray
“Creepy” is also a synonym for “scary”, and trying to hit on people who are much younger than you often makes you seem “scary”, thus “to creep” can mean “to act in a creepy manner”. I actually find it hard to believe that you don’t know this, and bringing up the dictionary definition of “creep” makes you seem like you’re trying to change subjects.

And I’ve been a girl on the internet long enough to know that some guys will hit on you regardless of distance. It might be pointless, but some people don’t seem to care.

Fucking fine. I was trying to be tactful (I don’t know why, since I’d already said I wasn’t going to be generous anymore), but if you want to be a complete shithead, here’s the link (linked because it’s exactly as I described).

This is your account, yes? Same name as here, same avatar as your linked blog.

By the way, I sure as shit wasn’t looking for things to “Bully you over.” I Google Twitter accounts when I’m unsure if somebody’s a troll or not. Always hoping that I’ve just misread them… Always finding shit like that instead.

weirwoodtreehugger

The best thing about WordPress now allowing the posting of gifs is that it causes some pretty hilarious meltdowns. There’s nothing that offends a pompous troll like not taking something they’ve said seriously enough to craft a long well thought out essay in response to it. Besides, what else is there to say when someone purposely misunderstands well known phrases like “creeping on?”

“OK but if the gun is not registered in my name and I use it, then its illegally obtained, no?”

I’m not an expert on the subject, but I don’t think so. Guns don’t have to be registered in the US. A lot of the gun owners are paranoid and really don’t a registry of guns or gun owners.

Dealer sales are tracked, but not gifts or private sales. So I can buy a gun from a dealer, and give it to a friend, and that friend can sell it to his coworker, and as far as the government knows I still have it. And that’s all legal.

Sooooo lame! How many images did you scan through to find this? I didn’t post this so people could drool over it, and I was referring to the fact that scammers who posted the pic had been smart enough to not be obvious with the sexual hard sell.
