I‘m going to do something I’ve never done before and that I likely won’t do ever again. That is, recommend that you watch a video by Thunderf00t. That one, up there.
Because, bless his terrible little heart, he has pulled together a hilarious and informative mini-documentary on what you might call the Unmaking of The Sarkeesian Effect, filled with clips that remind us all just what complete fuckups and hypocrites would-be filmmakers Jordan Owen and Davis Auini really are. Especially Aurini.
The section in which Thunderf00t rips apart Aurini’s claims to be a brilliant bloody editor (who knows all the keyboard shortcuts) is particularly delicious.
Just ignore the bits where he actually goes after Sarkeesian herself; they’re fairly brief, in any case.
If you feel bad about giving Thunderf00t views, you might be able to assuage some of that guilt by giving me money. (How’s that for a segue!) Just another reminder that the We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive is (still) on! Please consider donating through the PayPal button below. Thanks!
Or you could donate money to Ms. Sarkeesian. It’s all good.
Here is the thing about people spreading hate ideas/messages out there – they only remain positive/neutral to one another as long as they don’t bump into an ideological conflict. And when that happens, since their normal discourse is already so vitriolic they don’t suss things out so much as burn their bridges.
Thunderf00t has never appealed to me ever due to his very clear smug sense of superiority and also his inability to accept criticism in an intelligent fashion. This video, plus the examples highlighted in it, show just what I mean. There is no desire to work things out – just bridge burning and their own self-satisfying effigy burning going on. The comment section of the video reflects this behavior. This reminds me of the recent instance when Atheism-is-unstoppable revealed his white supremacist side and suddenly all his previous anti-feminist chums (like The Amazing Atheist) began a YouTube warfare with him – bizarre to watch The Amazing Atheist stand up for a social cause (against racism) and have Atheism-is-unstoppable call him a SJW (eww) which ironically by their bizarre standards was actually not that far off. But no constructive dialog at all because that is not a type of conversation they typically do.
And in case anyone here has a vague hope that this will cause some form of introspection for their community as a whole – nope. While I have read from people who have left their spiteful community and taken a really good long shower, they are really the exceptions. The thinking they have been ingrained with goes out of its way to encourage the concept that they are perpetually correct regardless of anything. Sometimes when they discuss their caricatures of us I always get the sense that they are self-projecting, because in all truth, it sounds a lot more like themselves. It makes it really hard to take them seriously.
Hexren:
Well now…
Surface Detail is noteworthy for containing some very unpleasant descriptions of suffering in a synthetic hell, including a rape. Parts of the book were difficult reading, for me, and I wouldn’t blame anyone who decided it was too much. And it wouldn’t surprise me if some people get off on its nastier parts.
(BTW, I think Surface Detail is the only book I’ve read which surprised me with its very last word. I think I literally exclaimed aloud when I read it)
Holy crap their delusion
The nine minute mark is the best
WE COULD BE ON THE DAILY SHOW!!!!
Heh, so apparently the manospherians are trying to take down his video. Lovely.
@Alan: I think it’s a good base to start with, but I agree with Ibis, it needs a bit of fine-tuning so we can get the exact definition across, and that means including the bit where the mansplainer assumes that the person he’s mansplaining to isn’t as knowledgeable about a topic because they’re not male.
I’m also not going to watch a TF video for free (I got bills to pay yo), but if you guys do watch it, you can scroll down to the bottom of your YouTube page, and access your History by clicking the button with the little hourglass on it, and delete it from your history, so YouTube will not reccomend to you any more of his garbage.
Moocow: Ha, that’s the big red blinking “Do Not Press” button on TF’s psyche. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if we get a big flood of anti-manosphere posts, and a resulting Wooly Bumblebee gadflly status where he attacks both MRAs and Feminists.
I hate that Thunderf00t has fallen so hard. I found his stuff about the alkaline reactions with water before I heard of his foaming-at-the-mouth about feminism. Just wish he’d mellow out and do more vids about science and a lot less about, to use the term broadly, society.
Every single thing I see about either Owen or Aurini makes me hate or pity them more. Pathetic, hate-filled fools with no skills and more hate than a barrel of Hitlers.
“the Wooly bullies”
@ben: I’m not sure Owen or Aurini have more hate than Ben Shapiro and the creatures at Breitbart.com, who are just priapic over that Virginia shooting (ZOMG EVAL GHEY BLACKITY BLACK GUY!!11!).
@ Nequam
I love that song; and the video.
It’s part of my “On a helicopter about to go into combat” playlist (along with ‘Long Tall Sally’ ‘From out of Nowhere’ etc.)
I laughed so hard at the clip of Aurini’s previous film project. His ninja skills are second to none.
Seriously, what was that? It makes me wonder if it was intended to be a parody of really bad martial arts B-movie. If it was intended to be serious, that’s just sad, and totally hilarious, I laughed my ass off.
I also got a laugh about how delusional they are. Their delusions of grandeur were amazing. They seriously seemed to think that this film of theirs was going to change the world. They saw themselves as featured guests on the Daily Show?lol. And they thought they might be on John Oliver’s show? Seriously? Have they never seen his show, do they really think he would do a segment on how horrible social justice advocates are? I don’t understand what would make them think he would agree with their point of view. Maybe they just thought their documentary would be so good that it would convince him.
I could see them being on one of those Daily Show segments where they openly mock people for their absurd views.
Yes, Sarkeesian Effect is crap.
No, it is not worth watching ANY Thunderf00t video.
@dhag, @viscaria: Oh, I knew about his tantrum over harassment policies. It was the podiphagy I missed out on.
Thank you for explaining it to me.

Stephen Colbert interviewed Anita Sarkeesian on his old show, and before it aired all the Gamergaters were convinced he would rip into her and expose the follies of feminism. They really are that confused about life.
I hate Thunderf00t’s voice so very much.
Aurini got his degree from the same University I attend. . . I feel dirty *shudders*
Shaenon,,,
“Stephen Colbert interviewed Anita Sarkeesian on his old show, and before it aired all the Gamergaters were convinced he would rip into her and expose the follies of feminism”
The funniest thing is that some of them were convinced he DID rip into her in his satirical way and if you just watched the show correctly, you’d see that he pwned her!

Nequam: I know, I just wanted to use “barrel full of Hitlers” in a sentence. I actually don’t think Jordan Owen is that hateful compared to most GamerGate types…but Davis Aurini is probably just as bad, if not worse, than most of Breitbart’s crew.
It’s easily one of the worst trends when it comes to discourse on the internet.
There’re so many people – generally white males – who conflate their disconnection with a subject to “objectivity” and will often dismiss anyone they disagree with as being “over-emotional.” The fact these people think they have more insight to racism (even though they’re white) or sexism (even though they’re male) takes a lot of self-satisfied pretentiousness that assholes like Penn Gillette enable constantly.
The lack of self-awareness is pretty astonishing, to actually accuse ethnic minorities and women of somehow lacking an understanding of topics that directly effect them. Which makes me suspicious of anyone who goes around calling themselves a “skeptic” – because they’re really only that way about thinks they disagree with or just dislike. Any other topic, and one that aligns with their sensibilities? All that skepticism goes down the drain.
They are, in fact, far more biased and subjective than anyone else – their cultural bubble making them moreso – as well as over-emotional. They’re some of the angriest and most judgmental people you can come across, but it never registers to them as anything more than being “objective.”
If anyone really wants to see Thunderfool’s melt down on FTB, The Internet Archive has a copy of it. Images aren’t loading for me, so you might not be able to see the leg biting pic.
Bring plenty of brain bleach.
The most ridiculous aspect of all this is the idea that TF thinks he’s somehow different or any better than these clowns. He sees two manbabies flinging poop at each other. I see three.
ATTENTION! ATTENTION! THUNDERF00T IS RIGHT ABOUT SOMETHING! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! RELEASE THE FLYING PIGS! RELEASE THE FLYING PIGS!
