I'm pretty sure this has never actually happened.

I saw a thing suggesting that Donald Trump is about what you’d get if a comments section ran for public office. Seems about right.

@Adam

Most trans people would not consider they “changed” genders as much as owning up to the gender they always were in the first place.

This is not a universal, each experience is unique, but as a general rule it would be safe to refer to them as their preferred gender, even if it’s in relation to a time before coming out.

Think of it as people coming out as gay/lesbian/pansexual etc: they are telling the world who they are, not “changing” from heterosexual into other sexualities.

I am genderqueer which means you could say I am “sometimes” a trans man. But I don’t stop being it when I’m presenting as a cis woman, it’s all part of who I am.

I hope I’m not confusing you too much with this last bit, gender analysis gets more and more intricate the more you stray away from the man/woman binary.

But if I’m talking about her when she was a runner or whatever it was, and was called ‘Bruce’ and was (at least publically) identifying as male, do I refer to her as Bruce or Caitlyn, and do I say ‘he’ or ‘she’?

I would think you’d call her Caitlyn and say “she,” but if it comes to something written down and/or published, like her medals, you might get away with “Caitlyn Jenner (as Bruce).”

For an example, prolific author, artist and game designer Jennell Jaquays did all her work under the name “Paul” until she came out in 2011, and there’s very little we can do to get “Jennell” onto Dark Tower or into the credits for Quake II. Nevertheless, I’ve seen people credit her as “Jennell Jaquays (as Paul)” when giving her credit these days.

But I’m not trans, so maybe you shouldn’t listen to me.

The way that’s always worked for me, is to refer to a person as a person and take at face value what you may consider that person’s gender to be until corrected. I will put up a big flag here to say that I know very little about gender identity stuff. I think people are people and should be treated as a person no matter what.

I’ve got to say as well that I’ve had little experience or knowledge other than trying not to be prejudicial. My only real knowledge experience was nearly 30 years ago at the Brixton Academy. Now forgive me all as this is an area I’m not versed in so I will use clumsy words and I’m open to correction. I met a person on the dancefloor, we grooved, laughed and chatted. Left together, snogged over a car bonnet, got shouted at by the owner, ran to the tube, I went to this persons flat, we snogged more, my hands went roaming, I copped a feel – sorry to be crude but they were the first silicon boobies I’d ever felt. I put my hand on this persons thigh with the hope of a green light. When she stopped me to explain what her situation was and what to expect.

Blimey, I really had my preconceptions challenged, and it was a very confusing situation. We had a long chat, her experiences, history and stuff was bloody fascinating. From my perspective the flesh was willing but the spirit was challenged, confused and feeling a bit messed up. My take-a-way at 19 was don’t presume anything.

Robert Kelly, welcome (and props to your parents for their great taste in names). I’m not familiar with Asalieri, but if he thinks that web comic plumbs the depths of evil intolerance he hasn’t been exposed to many web comics.

@Falconeer What about brokenforum?
They allow users to create their own sub forums while having dedicated forums for board games and politics

I’m OwenSohmer on steam, I’d also like an invite to the group

Re: that BGR article…the fuck did I just read?! Sorry, my language became out of control there, but…what the actual fuck? I’ve never been sexually assaulted, but this triggered a deep, visceral reaction in me, that felt like a cocktail of nausea and rage, with several shots of disgust; shaken and stirred. The woman was in pain, and BGR writer says that if she hadn’t had sex with her husband in a couple of days then she should suck it up and deal with it–pain and all?

And marital rape, even the most physically forcible type, doesn’t exist? How can that blogger say that? What a reprehensible human being. Christians wax on and on in apocalyptic imagery about the “War on Christianity” by Western society. Well, folks, it’s these types that are tearing your churches to shambles, because they do nothing but alienate and disgust everyone.

And then, the comments section. Oh, I should not have read that. People blaming her for “letting her resentment build” over 9 years, without talking to her husband about it this problem. Excuse me, morons in the comment section of BGR, but that woman has tried numerous times to communicate her pain, emotional and physical, and this guy Did. Not. Care.

And of course I made the mistake of reading the blog post “Why God made women.” Here’s the tl;dr version: Pulled straight from the red pill playbook about women being here to boner-please and have babies–with a religious twist. Same misogyny, whatever coat of painting you put on it.

Huskies saying no, because that is how I felt about that entire blog:

Ugh, anyway, in better (though not great) news: there’s been more rainfall in my part of the country than normal, so mold spores are like 50K ppm. Thus, many allergies are going bonkers. On the bright side, the trees and grass are still green, not scorched like they usually are this time of year. And by the sounds of it, the birds and frogs are very happy.

In reference to many allergies, I meant my own allergies. I would never say that other people having allergies is “better” news.

As long as people are talking Steam handles here, I’m Allison. There are lots of Allisons, of course, so I’m the one with The Clawed Girl as my avatar.

This seems like the place to point out that it looks like AVfM is trying to recruit* in the Cracked comment section. Spotting them in the wild is like stepping in dung on a nature hike.
This post (of course, it’s a post about sexual assault):

*seriously, recruiting.
From a commenter with the AVfM logo as avatar:
I invite you to look into the MGTOW, Men Going Their Own Way, lifestyle. Males of all backgrounds have found it rewarding and a pleasant shift from the cultural norms imposed on men.

Looks like I have to add you as friends, then invite you to the group.

I found Allison-with-Clawed-Girl and sent a friend invite. My handle is tcwill00.

I found a FaBe0 from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Is that you, Fabe?

Unfortunately, I can’t find OwenSohmer, Morrizaurus. Plenty of Owens. Got any distinguishing marks? By which I mean, avatar, location, etc?

@Brian:

re: gaming – What’s the Steam group? I don’t post here often, but I read the blog regularly, and sometimes the comments… I’d like to join the Steam group.

It’s just a category on Steam (an online game store and server, if that’s not clear). It’s called We Hunted The Mammoth. I don’t use it much, largely because of the littles.

Over 2,000 Fabes! Maybe you’d better look me up — tcwill00 (that’s two zeroes) seems pretty unique. My icon is (for some reason lost in the mists of time) a British soldier from ca. WWI. Maybe I should change it to Mr. Grant in his (actual!!) fedora up there.

Apparently T-Pain is a Steven Universe fan, hah.

I think it was towards the end of Season 1 that I started finding it strange that Steven Universe is so often classified as a “comedy” when, at heart, it’s really a drama. Then again, that might be the difference between glancing at what’s on the surface and sticking with it long enough to understand it.

I feel it’s still basically a comedy, but (and I’m just get-off-my-lawning here) I think we’re so used to comedies that are just joke vehicles, devoid of human drama and life, that it seems like anything with actual heart must be a drama.

But it is also 1:30 am, so all my thoughts should probably be viewed with minor suspicion.

I just came across this: http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/how-ayn-rand-became-libertarians-sociopathic-pixie-dream-girl-720

“Perhaps Rand’s largest talent lies not in her status as the mother of Objectivism, but her ability to play the Cool Girl, even posthumously, in the minds of men whose view of women is colored by both desire and revulsion. You’re not a misogynist if your hero is Ayn Rand, and Ayn Rand is the ultimate shield and sword for the kind of arguments regularly entered into by the kind of man who worships Ayn Rand.”

Worth reading the whole thing, tho. It also features *gag* Nero of GoatGroper fame and his brainfarts get some critical eye.
