WOO HOO HOO!

I am glad it is now legal in more states than just New York.
My favorite comments to date involve congratulations on celebrating 10 years of gay marriage in Canada by joining in, and whoever it was put out the news release about Canadian moral superiority being in peril.
ok, watch me screw up the code!
yep, screwed it up…

Break out the party poppers for the legalisation, and bring out the popcorn to watch the right wingers work themselves into a futile furore. Bwahahaha.
In other words, congrats America! 😀
Okay, so here’s the link to the governor of Texas’ memo directing the various state agencies how to handle this:

Now, there’s a lot of the usual blather, but the lynchpin quote is here:
For all his hyperbole, what this boils down to is a statement that a clerk who, for instance, refuses to sign a marriage license for a same-sex couple cannot be fired for that refusal. It does not actually even try to claim that the state does not have to provide that license. So, if you run a county courthouse, and the clerk says he won’t sign a marriage license for Adam and Steve, you just have to do it yourself.
I wonder how long it will be before the state budget takes a hit from making certain that there’s always a non-bigot on staff at every government office.
Oh, and for an extra bonus…
I wonder how long it will be before people claim to have converted to Judaism so they don’t have to work a Saturday shift. Prison guards, cops, virtually anyone who works for the government could get a guaranteed weekend day off that way, according to the memo he’s issued.
Fundie homophobes: Bigoted and Quixotic.
@freemage
Wouldn’t it be illegal under federal law to refuse to sign a marriage license though?
Sooo. My laptop just suffered a full HDD failure that took an hour to jerry-rig back together, meaning a $3000 purchase I can’t afford is in my immediate future… But I’m so fucking elated at finally being considered human in at least one of my two home countries that I don’t care about the compsplosion at all. Glitter > Money stress.
I took a midnight walk in the bush a few hours ago to try and air out my head. It’s amazing just how much brighter and more beautiful everything looked.
Pandapool: The ruling affects agencies, not individuals. So long as SOMEONE in the courthouse signs the necessary documents, the ruling remains intact. The governor’s memo just says you can’t fire or discipline an individual for not going along with it–he doesn’t deny the state’s obligation to fulfill the duties.
=]
Wish it were the case in Australia. 🙁
I should stop babbling like I’m high (I’m actually not, for once =P) and join in with the happy pictures.
@SFHC
Well, there’s still a bunch of states that can discriminate on the fact that you’re queer but at least your marriage will be recognized…until your employer finds out you’re gay.
But, you know, let’s just celebrate the fact that SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS LEGAL!!!!!
@freemage
Well, if EVERYONE refuses…
Chair dancing here in the Deep South. Roy Moore can try to git us but it ain’t gonna work!
FUCK YEAH!
@GiJoel
Hey, we’re all rooting for ya.
And once we get Australia, we’ll get THE WORLD!
MWHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
A truly joyous day!
This seems appropriate: http://youtu.be/OMTryuyHgu0

Proper future too!
We have so many technologies from sci fi already and so very much more less than a decade away – yet culturally we’re decades from acceptance. People still believe nonsense lies of hate, based on random arbitrary fear of otherness.
Well, it’s about time. Woohoo!
I heard there’s a prototype hoverboard somewhere out there,
There had better be. Marty McFly’s arriving soon.
I texted my friend when I heard the news and she texts me back “Good, now that you can put a ring on it, you can start dating.” I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what my mom would say too if I was out.
@Pandapool
There is! I don’t remember what it’s called, but it went on Kickstarter, got mega-funded, and will be going out to some of the backers in October.
Obvious next step: Hoverboard weddings? 😉
