As most of you are no doubt aware, Reddit recently banned the incredibly shitty FatPeopleHate subreddit for harassment. Naturally, members of Reddit’s many other incredibly shitty subreddits — including KotakuInAction, the main GamerGate hangout on Reddit, and of course the Men’s Rights subreddit — are afraid they’ll be next!
“The new age of reddit has begun,” wrote one worried Men’s Rightser. “Admins ban /r/FatPeopleHate (and 4 other subreddits that the admins fail to disclose) for “harassment”. It is only a matter of time before this subreddit gets banned too.”
Meanwhile, in KotakuInAction, a “megathread” about the bans has garnered more than 1100 upvotes and inspired nearly 500 comments.
In that thread, one KiAer has helpfully provided a list of the subreddits Reddit has shut down in recent days. As you can see, most were variants on FatPeopleHate, hastily created in an attempt to get around the ban of the original FatPeopleHate (or just to annoy the site admins); others were offensive in other predictable ways. I’ve highlighted some of the more, er, interesting of the bunch.
My point here?
If you look at a list like the one above and think “oh, no, my favorite subreddit will be next,” then maybe, just maybe, there is something terribly wrong with your favorite subreddit, and probably with you as well.
Men’s Rights: the only self-proclaimed “civil rights” movement outside of literal Nazis that puts itself in the same category as “/r/fatn*ggerhate” and “/r/transf*ggots.”
NOTE TO READERS: My strep throat is better but not gone, and I also have other non-blog things I need to tend to this week, so posting will probably continue to be a bit light.
Yeah those asshats need to stop appropriating kink.
And on the topic of ginormous numbers, here’s the biggest conceivable:
Jackie, I bow to your skills at translation. To me it was indistinguishable from random banging on the numpad.
With some of the talk about the replacement groups “going hydra” and operating in a clandestine, temporary, almost guerilla fashion, I wonder how long it’ll take before people start naming subreddits with MD5 hashes and suchlike in order to buy time before the admins get suspicious.
“Pssst – the new fatpeoplehate subreddit is /r/9e107d9d372bb6826bd81d3542a419d6.”
Moocow, I love you so much right now. Anyone who makes g(64) reference is my friend.
Hehe, thanks! Whenever I play combo decks in MTG that go infinite, since you’re required to pick a specific number in tournament play I always go with Grahams number 😀
Ah, but can you derive the Ackermann function for Graham’s number?
That would work better than what they’ve been using.
Now all that need is code words for “fat” and “hate”. “Carrot” and “munch” would probably work.
“I munch those carrots SO MUCH. We should dox lots of carrots.”
“Carrots are disgusting.”
“Munching carrots is all I really do.”
That would certainly confuse people.
Also, if you’re still interested, I did a bunch of notes for my magicks the last few days. I’ll be clarifying the apprentice/college system and worked out ritual cradles, and once I figured out a name for them, I’ll have the sentient magicks worked out, too, including the names of some of the more famous ones (like Corvus, who is Dark). I’m stuck between Amara, Anmah and Khaled. The apprenticeship system and some basic rituals will be in the book, more rituals and the sentient magicks will be in the grimoire.
@Jackie:
That makes me paranoid because it makes me wonder how many groups speak in code like that; and that in turn makes me worry that I’ve inadvertently talked to people and not realised that they’ve actually been using code.
“Hey EJ, do you like sleeping?”
“Oh man, I totally love sleeping. I don’t get enough sleep these days, but when the weekend comes I just lie back and sleep ten hours straight. Sometimes I’ll wake up, then just turn over and go right back to sleep.”
What does this person think that I’ve just said?
Re Magick: Yeah, definitely still interested. Some friends of mine have dragooned me into running a new RPG for them, so my head is currently full of game systems and magic systems, so I’m in a very receptive mood for more ideas right now.
I can’t imagine being so dedicated to hating someone. How can anyone’s personality be so wrapped up in hating someone else?
Can you even imagine? Do they not have hobbies? Jobs? Just mundane stuff to do? They could volunteer, walk a dog, learn a language. They clearly have issues to work out. Maybe they could spend their time doing that?
Can you imagine what they feel when they gain a little weight?
Me: “Aw crap. My jeans are too tight. I really liked those jeans. I wonder if I can find them in a size up?”
Them: “My entire concept of my identity and self worth are destroyed. All of my previous friends now hate me and so do I.”
How fucked up is that?
@ Lea
At the risk of going Godwin, the Wannsee Conference is a good study in hating for hate’s sake.
Here’s a little clip from a very good film about the conference. I find it illuminating; not just in regard to racism but it also perhaps sheds some light on why MGTOWs never actually take any steps to go their own way.

Irrespective of the name of a subreddit 8t 6r04p I would have though (although correct me if I’m wrong) reddit would have text parser to scan for know 8t w0rd5 and distance to other known words associated with 8t 6r04p5. Doddle
Ugh. No. NO. Trust me, fellas, this is not a test. We don’t want you to spank us. We don’t even want you living in the same town as us. We want you to fuck off, and we want you to keep on fucking off until you reach the heliopause. Preferably without an air supply.
And to think they keep insisting that they and the PUAs are separate species. Bosh. BOSH, I say.
As big numbers go, I’m fond of godgahlah-turreted-heptacthuldekon and heptacthularxi-heptacthularxi-heptacthularxi-heptacthularxi-heptacthularxihect.
I don’t know, Dean. Why would you name your weiner “feminist”?
I’ve done a post collecting together some of Dean’s most inspired contributions to the #SpankAFeminist hashtag.
@Alan – Conspiracy should be required viewing for anyone confused about how evil (or vile actions if you aren’t into religiously-slanted terms) can have perfect internally consistent logic and legality.
@EJ
I’m still having trouble figuring out what I want to call them. (My notes are handwritten in pen, so I kinda want to get it right the first time, if you get what I mean…well, again; I have four pages “voided’ about them already.)
I’m leaning towards Khaled, but it turns out Khaled is a pretty famous Algerian musician.
I’m not sure if this encourages me or discourages me to name powerful, eternal, magical beings after a popstar (essentially).
Khaled is a very common Arabic name anyway. At any given time there’ll be dozens of famous Khaleds. It’s like having something called “Mary.”
@EJ
3000% of all words that mean “immortal” are also names. I’ve trying to find something sans-Latin root for a while and everything I look up is a fairly popular name of either a person, character or company. 😐
Currently, the placeholder is Immortalis. Immortalis. IMMORTALIS.
“Oh, these beings of magical that live forever and can never die. They’re called IMMORTALIS because a fourth grader used a dictionary with Latin-roots to name them.”
“Aeternus” is equally as hamfisted, plus is a Norwegian death metal band.
Naming a fictional race of creatures is hard. :<
@Pandapool – Hm. Well, the infinity symbol is like a sideways eight, so you could translate “sideways eight” into a different language and call them that.
(Mind you, this is from somebody who thought Justin Zeit would be a funny name for a character, because “Zeit” means “time” in German and then he’d be Justin Time.)
It’s not like a lot of writers are super UN-lazy about naming either. Re the word “immortal,” there’s Immortan Joe from Mad Max: Fury Road, which is just changing one letter (irrelevant, but I went and saw the movie because this blog was making me curious about it).
As for the original post, the names of the (stupid, cruel, and useless) subreddits look like unfinished sentences. Fat people hate… what?
It’s leaving me in suspense. It’s like the Katy Perry song “This Is How We Do.” Do what??
Some variation on Struldbrug?
@epitome
I don’t WANT to be lazy about naming. XP Especially for a very ancient power.
(Although I guess the word could have been inspired by their names in the first place…)
No, no. I think I’m just gonna go with Anmah. The Anmah. It’s a delicate but broad word. Their symbol will be a shining snail shell, which symbolizes their power of resurrection and long life. Also, swirls. They’re gonna have a logographic script based on Sinhala and Hindi. Because swirls. o3o
*Sanskrit, I mean. *face palm*
@Pandapool – My husband named some of the races in his world using the method of making cards of all possible letters in the alphabet you are using. Shuffle. Pull card. Write letter down. If wanted, pull said letter out or mix it back in. Repeat last 4 steps until happy.
If you are using a language that uses characters instead of letters, he is stumped.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT I MEAN ANYMORE. I CAN’T READ MY OWN HANDWRITING.
This:
गुड मॉर्निंग स्टार चमक रहा है। पृथ्वी हैलो कहते हैं।
And this:
තාරකාව බැබළෙන්න සුබ උදෑසනක්. පොළොව හෙලෝ පවසයි.
Will combine to make a written language which uses characters to determine certain meanings rather than phonetic sounds.
I hope everyone has the Unicode for them.
Here’s a very quick mockup of what I’m talking about:

Each symbol represents a word. This may mean “the dog has been fed” or “the crops are ready now”. The lines will connect to make a single sentence and break for the next sentence, with the line on top and bottom for quotes and non-quotes.
I’m only mentioning it now since I’m writing notes about them now. I’m not sure when this will actually get to be 100% a full written language because it’s a fucking written language.
I ain’t no Tolkien.
