If their reaction to the widespread mockery of The Sarkeesian Effect trailer is any indication, the two biggest critics of the “critic who cannot be criticized” cannot handle much in the way of criticism. Davis Aurini, the Nazi-er of the two Sarkeesian Effect auteurs, has been blocking the critics on his Youtube channel, evidently oblivious to the ironies. Jordan Owen, the one with the hair, has been yelling into his computer and putting the results up on Youtube. (See above.)
I wouldn’t really recommend watching the entire 18-minute-plus video, in which Owen, bristling with anger, reads out his response to a two-week-old piece in the Houston Press making fun of the trailer, unless you have some sort of fetish for long-winded long-haired dudes talking in silly “Valley Girl” voices, making fun of the spelling of people’s names, literally screeching about the “racism and sexism” allegedly faced by white dudes, and generally making no fucking sense whatsoever (while gratuitously working the n-word into their rants).
Seriously, just watch the bits I’ve linked to in the paragraph above and you’ll have a pretty good taste of the whole thing. Or read the rather amusing (and accurate) executive summary prepared by one anti-gamergater here.
The skin, it is a bit thin, no?
Here’s the original Sarkeesian Effect Trailer.
Oh, wait, that was my version. Here’s the one by Owen and Aurini.
And in case you didn’t get that “bathtub orator” reference in the title, this will explain it.
@newt
“Once again, you’re arguing with straw SJWs. Please link to the comment where somone told you that only white people can be racist,”

“That’s because that’s the only kind of racism and sexism there are. Everything else is either a bias or a prejudice.”
Lea said the only kind of racism is from white people and the only kind of sexism is from men
I’m going to stray a bit from the always refreshing debate about how dictionary definitions of racism somehow cancel out fleshed out theories about how racism functions in societies and instead point out my fave quotes from this video. I didn’t catch all of Owen’s finer points because I was reading something while listening to it and the generally poor reading performance occasionally veers into incomprehensibility.
1) Owen contends Jef(f) “bashes” the trailer for TSE “in a manner that misses every point we’re trying to make without a shred of self awareness”. I’m briefly hospitalized for an acute overdose of irony.
2) Owen defends “the critic who can’t be criticized” tag line by arguing the worshipful mainstream media “never challenges her on the many factual, logical, and ethical failings of her arguments and behavior” even though “virtually every claim she makes about video games is either a lie by a willful misrepresentation of the facts or by her own ignorance”. That seems well-reasoned and thoughtful.

@venny You have it backwards. No on is saying only white people can be racist or men sexist. People are saying that our social structure, which is racist and sexist, means that racism against whites and sexism against men doesn’t exist. It is actually entirely possible for minorities to be racist against minorities and women to be sexist against women because our culture normalizes racism and sexism. Individual people can be prejudiced against whites or men but since it isn’t backed by society-wide forces it has no more real power behind it than does someone who is prejudiced against people who don’t like Game of Thrones.
“Individual people”
Yes its racism.Yes it is only the far left that say racism against whites is impossible.
@venny
Now you’re claiming that posting cat videos isn’t mainstream?
“Now you’re claiming that posting cat videos isn’t mainstream?”
It’s not mainstream to say that racism against white people is impossible, if somebody says that you can assume they are on the hard left
@venny
Basically: racism and sexism are societal, prejudice is individual. So the stereotypical “hating men” would be prejudice, but not sexism, as sexism is society-approved gender prejudice.
Seconding andiexist and noadi here.
Venny, you can’t be sexist towards men because men as a whole are treated better by society than any other gender.
And you can’t be racist against white people because white people are treated better in society than any other race.
You can be prejudiced or discriminate against white people or men, but you can’t be racist/sexist towards them, because there’s no structure built into our society that keeps them disadvantaged like there is for women or people of color.
The thing is though, they never challenge any specific claim she makes with actual evidence. They just attack her character and say she’s wrong and “willfully misrepresenting” them.
Should they actually come out with a video that breaks down her arguments and addresses the issues they have with them beyond “She didn’t say nice things about our games! That bitch!” and their usual frothing-at-the-mouth rabid slur-hurling, I’d be a little more inclined to take them seriously.
Several people have actually managed this, so it’s not impossible.
I did not liten to the whole thing. Just the highlights.
And I also liked Absentia. It Follows was also great. Very squicky. Lot’s of suspense. Excellently done. I liked the way the teens were often shown like Waterhouse paintings and how at the end *spoiler*
two of the teens clothes were suggestive of a priest and a nun. The director didn’t miss a beat.
If you like Algernon Blackwood and HP Lovecraft, check out Irvin S. Cobb’s horror. He’s also a racist*, but his story Fishhead may have inspired The Shadow Over Innsmouth.
It’s funny. Like Cobb I’m from western KY and reading Lovecraft’s descriptions of the rural northeast always reminded me of home. The long winding roads that disappear over hills, around bends and through woods until you don’t know where you are can give you a dreamlike sensation, especially since not all the roads can be found on maps and some roads the maps say are there simply aren’t. That’s today. I can only imagine the 1900’s.
*He wrote about happily subservient black folks that never were. The Fishhead character is a black man and his antagonists white men. For it’s time I suppose that was somewhat progressive. He’s still a trope in a lot of ways.
Have you guys seen this? Not bad at all.
I will buy into the idea that white men experience racism when I turn on C-Span and see 1-2 white politicians in a large group of politicians who are people of color. I will buy into the idea that white men experience racism when “driving while white” is a thing.
I will buy into the idea that white men experiences sexism when the vast majority of shows, movies, video games and comic books feature an all-woman group with one token man thrown in for “diversity.” And that one token man wears a skimpy, sexualized, highly impractical outfit.
When these things happen, that’s when I’ll think venny isn’t full of shit. But they haven’t, so venny is still full of shit.
Before anyone goes off to brew up some ergot, Hensbane or Jimson weed tea, please remember that they can cause severe constriction of the arteries and can kill your kidneys with a quickness. So can some mushrooms, so be careful with your hallucinogens.
Venny,
Thanks for making my point for me. Taking the time to educate them does not work. But it may help lurkers who are genuinely interested in learning. So, thanks patient people who tried to help Venny out. You rock.
@Lea
…
Which mushrooms cause hallucinogens but don’t kill your kidneys?
…
For science…
“Venny,

I have already seen those definitions, like I said they are not in dictionaries and if you hear somebody using these definitions they are guaranteed to be on the far left. It is not a mainstream definition. Words get their definitions from their mainstream usage, nearly everyone takes for granted that racism includes everybody, on the hard left some of them say no it doesn’t include whites.

What percentage of people do you think would look at that newspaper headline and think “thats not what racist means, those killers were prejudiced but not racist” ? not very many people, right? most people wouldn’t even give the headline any thought because the vast majority of people take for granted that racism includes all races.
It’s funny you say that, venny, because I have heard lno one outside of ultra-conservative, far-right circles claim that white men experience racism and sexism. That is a far-right talking point only.
I know you probably consider Fox News “maintainstream,” but no.
“It’s funny you say that, venny, because I have heard lno one outside of ultra-conservative, far-right circles claim that white men experience racism and sexism. That is a far-right talking point only.”
So you think that everyone apart from the ultra-conservative far-right would think that newspaper headline is wrong?
Shut up Venny.
Arguing that white people experience racism less than 24 hours after a racist white guy murdered 9 people for being black is in extremely poor taste.
Just shut the fuck up.
“Arguing that white people experience racism”
Actually I was arguing the definition of the word “racism”.
Hey @venny it’s in disgustingly poor taste to whine about how “white people experience racism too” in the wake of the South Carolina shooting.
Venny,
You were arguing the definition of the word racism so you could claim it effects white people.
SHUT THE FUCK UP
Should we ask David to be tougher on “I’m not a racist but [racism that would make a Fox News anchor blush]” trolls for a few weeks? I know they could be worse, but the number of white-on-black assaults and massacres lately are reaching 1960s KKK levels and I don’t think any of us want to deal with this bullshit anymore…
@SFHC
I’m sure if enough people asked, he would.
