Nope, Saskatchewan. But right country. I’ll stop blathering now.

Thanks everyone! 😀

I don’t think I had fully realized how stressed out I’ve been about the job situation until it was resolved and I could sigh with relief… 🙂

Wow, Penny Psmith, your game is wonderful. I just spent 20 minutes in what turned out to be rural Latvia wandering dirt roads and following the power lines until I got to a place with a train station. It’s both engaging and soothing, which is nice in an era when so much entertainment creates engagement through heightening tension. I’m hooked. Thanks!

That run down village was in Bulgaria, near the border of Serbia (again I figured it out thanks to a flag). From what I know of Bulgaria there is an ample amount of poverty there. I also landed in Thailand, Sweden (just outside of Copenhagen) and the Mpumalanga district of South Africa.

This game is addictive. I think I might try my luck with the UK map (yes I know it’s kind of cheating, shush :p).

@Nicolaluna
That would help enormously, thank you so much. What is your email so I can drop you a line if need be (or better yet, just casual chatting :D)?

OOOH NOW I THINK I’M IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE! Pretty pretty Alps mountains. I love this game, thanks so much for recommending it, Penny and Monzach.

@300baud – Aw, so glad you’re enjoying this! I find it oddly soothing too. And you really do get such interesting places! I once found myself somewhere in northern Norway, which ended up being almost the highest north you can get in coninental Europe, or something like that. Got to some little fishing village, with a ferry terminal, and called it a ‘win’.

@epitome – One thing that usually helps me place indistinct roads in the US (or at least North America) is yellow vs. white road lines. Over here (Israel) and in many other places around the road, yellow lines are road edge, white lines (continuous or segmented) go in the middle. In the US I’ve noticed it’s the other way around, yellow in the middle and white on the edges. Haven’t checked everywhere, though, so might not be 100% certain, but still, it’s one way to narrow things down.
Another ‘trick’ that used to work was that if photo quality was bad I could know it’s in the US, since these were the earliest places to get on GSV; but as Google have been re-going through places and updating the SV, it’s probably not relevant anymore.

I’m just glad to hear that you’re enjoying yourself. 🙂 I hope that you’ll find yourself in many other stunning locations. And I agree, the south of France is just gorgeous, all the way along the Mediterranean coast, at least when you’re outside the major cities. There’s a reason why so many noble and rich families wanted to spend time in that location, especially during the 1920s. Apparently it was quite the done thing to stay at Cannes, go to Antibes to swim and then to Monte Carlo to gamble. 😀

*waves* Hi, all. I should post here more often.

Well, only things I’ve been doing happen to be waiting for the store down the street to open up so I can try to get a job there. And I’m finally trying to clean out my messy, messy room.

I’ve also realized how much I’ve always hated cleaning out my fridge, too… but still. It has to be done, I guess.

I started a new job six weeks ago and this coming Monday I’m expecting to be sacked. Frankly, I’ve under performed, I’ve been locked in a form of workplace inertia, I know what to do just can’t bring myself to do it. I work with a team of bro-grammers and wannabe gamergaters and I find the workplace environment to be repellant which is sad as we provide software to the charity/npo space. Some of our clients have been of huge help to me, my wife and my children.

As I said I’m locked in a form of inertia, the bro-grammers treat me as a highly paid janitor, the business team don’t really know what I do other than I’m the highest paid member of staff. I’ve got 48 hours in which to workout what to do and I’m still in full on inertia procrastination mode.

Today my husband woke me up, saying that my parents were coming over and that they were bringing my dad’s blood sugar test with them. I’ve been getting the royal runaround from my GP, and they decided to take testing into their own hands. Verdict: my fasting blood sugar is a bit high. They also brought potato soup, and we had a nice visit while my rescue dog tried to be comfortable with these skeery people in the house. They don’t come by often, since they are older and it’s a bit of a drive (hour and a half).

Thx all.

I took her to the vet for her checkup. That’s when all this started. I don’t want to stress her out more but i don’t see how i can’t not take her to the vet. I keep hoping it’s just a virus. She just isn’t acting like herself.

That mapcrunch game is super fun. I found myself on a mountain road in Greece (and then accidentally closed the window and lost it before I could get an exact location).

I started over and found myself here:

At least there are people around…

In other news, I am in the Netherlands and happened across an episode of Bella and the Bulldogs dubbed in Dutch. I only caught the end of it, but it definitely did not look like porn.

This week felt like a train running over me… I haven’t got to the “I can breathe again” point yet :/

A friend came by a few hours ago and while catching up (haven’t seen him for a while) he told me he had hit his ex-wife in the past.

I was… frozen. I knew many details of their relationship, especially related to their daughter, and I had never expected that.

Granted, he also was arrested last week for hitting some guy who was yelling at him during a traffic jam.

I’m not sure how to react. In fact, we were supposed to meet later tonight for some beers but I don’t think I have the heart to do it.

I feel so numb right now. I can’t even words.

Tina S

Rainey was our sick little kitty. Sorry i wasn’t very clear. She passed away peacefully around her familiar smells, warm and loved. We’ll get her ashes back next week along with a plaster cast paw print. I got some of her fur, too, both the black and the white. She was, we think, about 13. She was a stray that we got from a foster home. She was so scared when we brought her home that she hid under the futon for a week. Later once she became more comfortable she would greet every stranger at the door! She went from scaredy cat to getting into everything! She was a great cat, loving in her own way. We will miss her a lot. Guess that goes without saying. I’ll be crying off and on for the next few days. I’ll feel better when she’s back home again.

Monzach:

I’m thinking of playing a couple of games of the “Famous Locations” game, just out of interest to see just what sort of locations count as being famous and if there are indeed any outside of Europe and the USA.

If you’re Finnish and older than Internet, you might remember the TV sketch show Kummeli and one particular running joke on “geography quiz” where the contestants were shown extremely recognizable locations from France, Italy etc enforced with some silly national stereotypes. Then the contestants would invariably declare:

“The answer is…Canada!!!”

(At the time we knew Canada was an relatively important western country but there was a distinct lack of national stereotypes about Canada. I mean, yes they played ice hockey but doesn’t everyone?)

I really need to share the amazing Android game “Neko atsume”. It’s a game about cats. It’s only in Japanese, but the tutorial makes everything easy to understand, and you can’t lose – you can just watch cute cats play with stuff. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.hit_point.nekoatsume&hl=en

I feel like people here would appreciate this game – and it’s all free. Did I mention that it has lots of cats? Cute cats playing with toys? It’s great.

Yes indeed, I am Finnish, and I’m also old enough to remember “Kummeli”. It was a pretty awesome show for the first couple of seasons, but it became much too repetitive for my tastes. Well, at least my grown-up tastes, when I made the mistake of watching the DVDs a few years back. 😀 I remember the “Canada” quiz very well, but do you remember the “Where are we with Jouko and Kosti?” segments? I think they were usually confined to fairly obvious spots in Finland but they were quite hilarious.

One of my little trans sisters just pulled a knife and threatened to cut herself but fortunately I realized she was going for the knife drawer and got there right after her and grabbed it from her. But now the other trans sister took of in the car we share and we don’t know where she is and I’m so worried about both of them. What if she crashes the car? What if the other one has something sharp in her room? I don’t know what to do and I’m just a shaking crying mess now

I’ve been playing as hard as I can and dragging my kids with me. I’m still not entirely sorted out. But I’m good. It’s a process. We’re having so much fun.

I’ve been out so much and the aggressively friendly people aren’t bothering me anymore. They are just as friendly and chatty as ever. I just don’t mind. I can’t go anywhere without getting compliments and that usually bothers me. It’s nice now. People are nice. They aren’t cats, but they’re OK.

Guess what I get the most compliments on? Your going to love this.

My glasses and my short, bright colored hair.

Misogynists may hate them, but everybody else seems pretty keen on them. I know I am.

Boys and girls are especially forward with their praise. One little girl at the pool reached up and touched my hair like she was testing to see if it was real. She said, “It’s blue but it’s perfect.” High praise.

I’ve been wearing my two piece bathing suit to the pool. I’m wearing running shorts and tank tops to frolic around in. It feels fantastic to feel the sun and the breeze.

Haters can kiss my ample ass.

Happiness is to bigoted shitlords what sunlight is to vampires and bacteria. I keep thinking of the saying, “The best revenge is living well” and I agree.

Thanks to David and assorted Mammotheers for all the laughs. Keep them coming! It is such a delight to be reminded how kind, clever and strong people can be, especially in light of the subject matter. I read these posts and try not to laugh smoothie out my nose. Y’all are funny. You slay me. The people David mocks are dedicated to spreading misery. It’s like they have a disease that they are desperate to spread or that they think making other people miserable might lessen their own. Instead they’re making us laugh. They’re disgusting, incompetent and thanks to the way you all dissect their twaddle, amusing.

@katz
I ended up texting my friend who is a trans woman and also married to a trans woman. They had offered to talk to my sisters in the past but my sisters seem so dead set on suffering through alone even though they clearly need help. I know every trans person has different experiences but I also thought that their experiences would be more similar to my sisters than mine are as a cis woman. My sisters have been so upset lately and convinced that no one will ever see them as women no matter what and I thought that talking to women who have been through a transition would help. I convinced both my sisters to meet up with is and they talked for a while. I think it helped them. I hope it did.

Oh, fat girl problems!

I did a five-ish hour hike with a girlfriend yesterday in the wrong pants. My thighs rubbed so aggressively one pant leg tore open. That’s OK. The friction burns on my thighs, not so much. I can barely walk today!

I washed the rashes with mild soap and patted them dry and let them breath. Then I put on pants which was better than my thighs being in contact with one another. That lasted a few hours. I peeled them off and applied cornstarch to reduce friction.

Antiinflammatories and ice will be a necessity the next few days.

Tina S: I’m sorry about your kitty. Condolences. It sound like you provided her with a great life. 🙁

shinynewgamer: That sounds terrifying! I hope your sisters are ok. Best wishes and good internet vibes to you and your trans sisters.

marinerachel: Fat girl sympathy cringe. Personally, I’ve found cornstarch to be the best for friction rash. And oatmeal baths, if you can get one.

Contact and?or no-contact hugs and good vibes for those who need them:
