Vox Day, the not-quite-Nazi fantasy author and generally repellant human being, is evidently upset that some people would like trans folks to be allowed to serve openly in the military. In a blog post today (archived here), Vox (Theodore Beale) cites recent gains by ISIS as proof that armies that “tolerate effeminacy” will inevitably lose to, well, armies run by people who hate gay and trans people enough to murder them.
No, really. Here’s his argument, in all of its horrendous, er, glory:
Military history clearly demonstrates that the side that executes homosexuals, whether throwing them off buildings or having their fellow soldiers beat them to death, reliably defeats the side that allows its soldiers to dress up and pretend they are women.
Yes, wealth and technology are on the side of the crossdressing military. But attrition, geography, and history are on the side that does not tolerate effeminacy.
Naturally, Beale’s commenters step up to offer their own equally terrible opinions on the matter.
According to Musashi #0350,
This national validation of all things homo is an affront to God and we will witness the resulting consequences. This is arrogance, pride, and most of all, rebellion. So now we pollute the military and somehow expect there will be no negative outcome.
We will lose our next war, and rightly so.
Alexander adds
Let’s see how long discipline lasts when mentally ill individuals have the power of the state behind them to remove their commanders from their positions, on the basis that said commanders don’t tolerate the private prancing about in heels and stockings.
Or conversely, when the officers insist upon it.
ajw308 is afraid the armed forces could be overwhelmed by the “sexually confused.”
I fear the day is coming where the US gov’t will pay for the mutilatiotional surgery that the sexually confused think will make them happy and the US military is flooded with transgenders seeking pretend surgical reassignment
Cail Corishev, meanwhile, indulges in this rather old-fashioned fantasy:
Just imagine if we (meaning the US govt. military) came up against a Christian army — not just a heathen army that God might use to chastise us, but a Christian army that could ask for His favor directly.
Theodore Beale and his fans: in essence, a Christian version of ISIS.
Do..do these guys not realize World Wars 2 happened and Hitler executed gays?
Uh. Chelsea Manning certainly had a lot of courage.
Not to mention, you know, those 300 Spartans?
Or, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Thebes
Pox is scared of damn near everything, isn’t he?
He reminds me of a certain bear of very little brain who just so happens to be afraid of someone stealing his liquid fucking gold.
Effimalumps and Jewzzles!
Effimalumps and Jewzzles!
They’re black. They’re brown. They’re all around.
They’re in. They’re out. They’re all about.
Ahem, I would like to point Pox Day and his ilk towards The Sacred Band of Thebes, a military unit of hoplites composed entirely of pairs of gay lovers. They were, incidentally, the only army to utterly annihilate the fucking Spartans, at the battle of Leuktra. So much for that argument.
And it seems that I was ninja’d by zoon echon logon… 🙁 Ah well, just as long as the point is, er, pointed out.
zoon echon logon,
Yes, but the Sacred Band of Thebes were defeated! By Alexander the Great, and Hephaistion, his…his, um, er… close friend!
Yes! The real lesson from history is that the only way to defeat a gay army is with an even gayer army.
They do know that most trans individuals in the military are men, right? Where does “effeminity” come into this?
This is so confusing. I feel as though I need to shove a bible and my head up my ass to understand this shit.
Geopolitics are not on the side of Vox.
ISIS is, militarily, a mosquito. The only reason they still exist is that the various Muslim factions that control the various Muslim-majority states in the Middle East are too wary of one another to effectively cooperate, or even allow one another to effectively field a fighting force. The situation in Syria further complicates the local political situation. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, or Iraq (with American support) could, any of them alone, squash ISIS like the bug it is, but any definitive action by any of them has repercussions far beyond ISIS.
Vox is, as usual, taking a complicated situation and boiling it down to something that isn’t even recognizable as part of reality.
I’d like to ask him to show his work, but I know this is all just assfacts.
Globally speaking, right now we’re probably the most accepting of LGBT we’ve ever been since we learned to bang the rocks together.
@Lea
Omigod! The heffalumps and woozles song! I loved that song! My favorite part is the honey harp and according nose and the hot air balloon heffalumps. I still have the tape! 😀
@Monzach
To be fair the Spartans also had teh gays.
Aaghafhefadadfafeffffuck.
I’m pretty sure heels and stockings aren’t regulation for anyone, jackass. You know including cisgender women in the military? I swear these jerks learned everything they think they know about transgender people from M.A.S.H.
Every Biblical scholar and ethicist knows that when confronting a vicious, barbaric opponent the only righteous course of action is to become so vicious and barbaric that nobody can tell you apart!
Roman mores on homosexuality, including during the Republic and Early Empire when they were at their peak conquering the mediterranean world, were basically, “it’s all cool as long as you top some slave or prostitute.”
and even when they violated that it was a source of embarrassment than an affront to the Gods or illegal. See Caesar’s political enemies calling him “the Queen of Bithynia” from an alleged affair in his youth with the King of Bithynia.
Like you were saying about kids being robust — Netflix streams a couple of Pooh features, including the first one, and I watched it with my kids. They were absolutely fascinated. (Uh oh.) They don’t seem to have been scarred by heffalumps &c, but that was the trippiest thing I’ve seen in a while, and frankly somewhat scary for me.
@chaltab
You have a fair point there. Also, I’m fairly sure that I read somewhere that young Samurai during the Edo period of feudal Japan were encouraged to become “special friends” with one another, mainly in order to maintain the ésprit de corps. I’ll check my copy of the Hagakure to make sure, I’m pretty sure it was there that I first read about it.
Also, lol for fucking ever at “effemilumps and Jewzzles”.
There’s only one possible response.
I love (and by love I mean the opposite of love) how the inclusion of trans MEN and LESBIANS doesn’t even factor into their so-called argument. They are just completely erased from existance.
@Monzach
I am a bit fuzzy on the details, but I think it used to be common in armies in China to offer sexual favors to your superior officer as well.
I hope they don’t find out that military chairs are hard as fuck. MISANDRY!
You’d think someone with a Greek-derived name like Theodore would have heard of Alexander the Great.
And the guy with the username ‘Musashi’? As Monzach says, homosexual relationships among samurai, such as the famous Musashi Miyamoto, were no big deal.
@Falconer
Lol. Yeah. I think that’s because as adults we have more context and experience with the “strange”, the “uncanny” and the “scary” so we are more aware of when things are trippy and such. Children just don’t have the context of what is considered “scary/trippy/whatever” because they haven’t been conditioned to think of those things as “scary/trippy/whatever” yet.
There were no gay or trans soldiers allowed in the US Military during the Vietnam war and we managed to lose that one. ISIS is around because invading a country is easy with superior technology and more money, but occupying a foreign land is difficult. American and British and Soviet etc. attempts to control the region have always resulted in failure and destabilization. ISIS has no chance of occupying or even successfully invading outside their region. What do gay and trans soldiers have to do with the very basic fact that winning a war is easier than ruling? Something that was clear in Iraq years before don’t ask, don’t tell was axed.
The manosphere really needs to make up their minds. Is the military a sacred and glorious cishet man place that needs to be kept unsullied by girl/gay/trans cooties? Or is it bad for the military to be comprised of cishet men because male disposability and the draft. PICK ONE! seriously!
