Once again, a look at some of the comments that people try to leave here, but which for assorted reasons don’t get past the rigorous We Hunted the Mammoth screening process.
I kid; the process is not rigorous at all. You just need to pass a minimal standard of basic human decency. Here’s an assortment of comments from people who, well, fell short. In each instance, I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to guess why.
I’ll take “Protocols of the Elders of [BLANK]” for $400, Alex!
This fellow, like a lot of manospherians, seems really, really obsessed with cuckolding.
This fellow tried to post a number of comments on the same theme. This is is most succinct:
I’ll take “I don’t condone violence but you feminists totally deserve it for making jokes” for $200, Alex.
tl;dr: This guy, not really a big fan of women. (Spot the “we hunted the mammoth” for bonus points.)
You thought that last one was the worst it gets? Unfortunately not. Whoever sent this one — from a dubious IP address — is either a giant douchebag of a troll, or the next Elliot Rodger. (Please be the former.)
I’m going to just stop now. This post turned out a bit darker than I expected.
Have you ever seen or read the X-Men? Feminism is like that. In fact, it’s pretty much literally that because the X-Men were created with the Civil Rights Movement in mind. Today’s movie interpretation happens to more gay rights oriented, but the X-Men theme fits feminism, too.
@bigboy
Oh, okay! Since proving your false claim is now irrelevant, how about you flounce off to wherever? 😀
Andiexist: men are feminists, oh we love those ones, sarcastic smile.
So you don’t think all men are bad? Good for you. And that time I wasn’t be sarcastic.
sunnysombrera -“I think saintluger did manage to get a couple posts through the filter once, but it was such victim blaming shit (on the thread about the murdered feminist college student, no less) that it was deleted quickly. He’s another misogynist asshole I’d like to see emigrating to a distant unoccupied island. Preferably one with lots of spiders.”
I remember that. That was a real low move. Due to the time difference (I am in Australia) I tend to arrive threads late, so by the time I read the threads such posts are already deleted. But they leave enough evidence for people to know that something awful was there. I hope he emigrates to a distant unoccupied island with lots of spiders AND snakes.
Pandapool: Only comic story or movies that I like is
Batman
And the dark knight trilogy
Rest of them, didn’t really interest me.
@PoM
You see, I would consider overhauling the system not actually radical, though, since giving women equal rights would change the system significantly on its own and when women are included more the system would change dramatically over time.
Radical to me is TERFs and “feminist” who are racists or ableist or people who don’t think you can be feminine and a feminist and woman shouldn’t be housewives ever and that type of shit.
I would consider feminist who want to get rid of capitalism or whatever as, like, marxist or communist or whatever who happen to also be feminists since you can believe that capitalism is awful and not be a feminist. Same of pacifism, ecologist, veganism, whatever. Just because you want to overthrow something as a part of your feminist belief doesn’t make the idea a feminist idea.
So @bigboy can’t link to a single feminist saying they want to kill 90% of men, how unsurprising.
@bigboy
Wow, Batman happens to be, like, on of the biggest SJW out there. I mean, he won’t kill the Joker because he knows Joker has mental problems and shouldn’t be put to death just because he has a mental illness. He donates to charity and helps people just as his parents raised him to do.
@bigboy
Actually, it’s not limited to feminist men. The men in my gaming group aren’t particularly feminist, but guess what? They’re not misogynists, and we share interests, so we’re friends. You know, like normal people? But thank you for the condescending “I-am-the-arbiter-of-who-is-an-okay-person” head pats. I’ll stick them in my hunting trophy cabinet.
Now it’s time for me to go watch some Star Trek, so I’ll be back later. Or not. Depends on whether this troll’s gotten stale yet.
The ambiguous grammar and misspelled preposition in this sentence hurt my brain:
How are we supposed to parse this? Is the bear confined on a cage, or is it the feminist movements (which have been doing the poking) that are confined on a cage? Are the feminist movements using a stick to poke at a bear, or have they been poking at a bear who has a stick, a stick that, presumably, he could use to poke back?
*This isn’t the only place where ThoughtsOnDisarray mistypes on for in, which suggests that his handle should really be ThoughtsInDisarray, a name obviously better suited.
“Because the only way to prove feminism is worth something is to prove feminists LOVE men! Now kiss my ass, bitches, and kiss it good so I can feel like a king again!”
Somehow, “go fuck yourself” doesn’t seem quite enough.
Policy you wrote three paragraphs about feminism then next message, what makes you think I care?
Very strange
So there’s,
Liberal feminism and Radical feminism
Radical feminism the sister or daughter of communism then, or nazism? Or you wouldn’t go that far?
Nameless wonder: that wasn’t very nice
Policy and i, are being civil.
And @bigboy continues to be unable to support his claims…
bigboy, not swearing while still acting like a douche isn’t being civil.
“Radical,” in this context and in the context of most social movements, is contrasted against “conservative,” which is not meant in the political sense but in the ordinary dictionary sense of “not wanting to make too big of a change.”
Liberal feminism is “conservative” because it doesn’t think that society is fundamentally broken. Liberal feminism believes that equality can be achieved within the present legal and social structures. If we can just legislate equal pay, and legislate paternity leave, and teach our sons not to sexually harass women, and teach our daughters that they belong to themselves and have a right to bodily autonomy, then we can achieve equality.
That’s tinkering around the edges. That’s what makes liberal feminism “conservative” in this sense. No major changes are needed. Just a few legal alterations and a few social changes, and if we can just get those to go through, everything will be fine.
However, what’s conservative today was radical in the past. Women’s suffrage was utterly radical. The concept that married women should have a legal identity separate from their husbands was radical. Those things are very conservative today.
That’s not what radical means, though. That’s one way radical feminism can manifest, but “radical feminism” just means “feminism that advocates radical social changes.” Gender essentialism (which is one of the basic foundations for TERFeminism) is actually not radical in the slightest. It’s an incredibly conservative concept.
I’m not talking about Marxism in conjunction with feminism. I’m referring to the way gender in society is structured at a fundamental level and wanting to change that, which is completely separate from Marxism, as Marxism takes an economic-class perspective and not a gender perspective at all. Marxism is a radical philosophy, but it has nothing to do with what I’m talking about.
I’m a feminist because I want women and girls to have rights and be treated like people. I mean that’s what the dictionary says. I have another reason because almost every time I go to a male space that’s suppose to help men and boys it’s filled with misognists. So I do want men and boys to have a space where they can get help. I don’t want to be labeled with radical or liberal just call me a feminist, It’s easier that way.
Snuffy
I doubt that he can even link to a feminist that wants to hurt men and/or take away their rights.
LOL! You think very highly of yourself! Those paragraphs were aimed at Jackie, who is a worthwhile person and not a troll, and I do care what Jackie thinks. You’re certainly welcome to eavesdrop on a publicly-conducted conversation that doesn’t involve you, but don’t assume I’m talking to you.
@PoM
Okay, see? I really should read up on this shit.
I’m just, like, let women be equal and shit and don’t slut shame and crap. That’s really the extent of my learning.
So what are the odds of @bigboy admitting that feminists don’t want to kill 90% of men?
Alright, policy one more question, then the troll will leave.
You have two nominees, in democratic party, which one would you choose or support (if you don’t want to answer, because it’s none of my business that’s fine) who would to be?
Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren?
@PoM
Wait, did he really think you were talking to him when you were quoting me and addressing my questions and shit?
Wow.
@bigboy
What are there policies or is PoM expected to google that shit?
@Olive
Also, who put whom in the cage? Was it done by an unnamed third party?
…
And by the way, who’s this asshole shitting on our carpet? Is he going to flounce yet?
Nothing intrinsically wrong with that.
Here is an … okay basic overview. It’s written in the context of feminist legal studies, but it works for general feminism, too.
