*I got a lot to do today and wasted most of my morning feeling physically bad. The kitty video helped a lot, though, thank you! 🙂
I’m working away from the office, and my manager has quit the company. Since I’m pretty sure I was being kept because we have a good friendship I suspect that the Higher Powers per se won’t let me carry on, since my current situation is a bit unorthodox. I don’t think I’ll be too torn up if I lose this job…mostly because I’ve seen similar things elsewhere.
But I’m still kind of in shock, and concerned because if I do lose the job, well I’ve got a piss poor financial situation as it is. x_x
@sunnysombrera – That sucks – I hope things work out. Two years ago I was fired suddenly from what I thought would be a long-term job (the company decided it would be better off filling a different position than mine) and that was a big setback at the time.
Good news about the bats! I heard about the white-nose fungus, and I hope the treatment continues to work.
Oh yes – my friend described that Salon article to me but didn’t give a source. I’m a writer of sorts, but also a tutor and a research assistant (oh – I got some more RA work for the summer, which is good!) and while that’s not my first choice exactly, I need to support myself and I’m glad to have pretty safe and healthy work environments.
The difficulty is balancing the creative work with the other stuff. I am not the best planner of things.
Plus, like Robert said, not everybody needs to do something “creative”. It’s not a “should.” That’s a pretty reductive viewpoint.

I did a project for Honduran White Bats in high school. They make little tents out of fig leaves by biting along the stemy, middle part of the leaf.
The middle ones are flying foxes. Their wingspan can reach six feet long.
And the last looks like a free-tailed bat, which they are called because they have special cartilage that allows them to turn better in the air, much like swallow tails. (I had to look that one up to make sure.)

That last bat is the most loving thing ever. I have now become anime-eyed.
You may have heard me mention that I’m setting up a new ‘Community Interest Company’ to encourage people; especially women and girls, to get more active through assault course challenges. Well here’s some pics from a kids’ event I set up for my previous company that we ran on Saturday.
We’re involved with Sports England and their “This Girl Can” project. The girls on Saturday clearly can 🙂
They were so cool! Completely fearless. That’s a proper SAS designed adult assault course (well, maybe not the bubble things) and they didn’t bat an eyelid. There was one 6 year old girl; about 3 foot high. her mum said “She can’t swim but she’d like to try the waterslide (that’s a 60 foot drop into 6 feet of murky water). “Hey, if she wants to…”
We had three lifeguards who dove down to pluck her out and she came up laughing. She’ll go far!

They’ve been working on this for around a year or so (around the time Cruddy Crusty Pus canceled WoD) and it look great so far. The thing is they aren’t very hyped up right now and they’re first crowd sourcing campaign is coming up.
If you are or you happen to know someone who was upset that Crappy Crap Piss canceled and fucked White Wolf hard, check out or let them know about Project Dogmat, please? Because, fuck, it look pretty sweet so far.

So I’ve had a bit of a shock to the system…
