Fury and Furiouser: The boycott of Mad Max Fury Road is the biggest joke on the internet; manbabies declare victory

Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy: An even greater threat to manly men than Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road?
Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy: An even greater threat to manly men than Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road?

So my post on Aaron Clarey’s Return of Kings call for a boycott of Mad Max: Fury Road went a bit viral last week, garnering thousands of shares and retweets on social media and inspiring dozens of articles on sites ranging from The Mary Sue to the Guardian and even the Daily Mail, all helping to expose the manly men of the manosphere as the entitled manbabies they are, so threatened by women with power that the very thought of Charlize Theron as a badass postapocalyptic road warrior causes them to lose their collective shit.

Their “boycott” is a bit of a failure as well, to say the least. The film — which so far has garnered an impressive 98% of positive reviews according to Rotten Tomatoes — took in close to $17 million at the box office on Friday (in North America), and is expected to earn more than $40 million this weekend alone.

Admittedly, one movie did do better than Fury Road on Friday, but I somehow doubt this will be much of a consolation to Clarey and the rest of the Return of Kings crowd, given that the movie is Pitch Perfect 2, a musical comedy about an all-female a capella group whose breakout star is  — to use the parlance of the manosphere — a fat chick. The horror!

Or maybe I’m wrong, and all the Fury Road boycotters went to Pitch Perfect 2 instead.

Anyway, over at Return of Kings, site founder and rape legalization proponent Roosh Valizadeh is proclaiming victory:

Even though we were incorrectly identified as a men’s rights site, the idea that Hollywood is spreading feminist propaganda has for the first time reached the ossified brains of over one million new people this week, perhaps more. Most of these individuals will never allow themselves to accept how unnatural and phony it is to have female heroes who are as strong as men, but a few of them will encounter another movie in the future that portrays women as so comically masculine that they can’t help but remember the site with the word Kings in the title that described that very phenomenon.

Aw, fellas, can’t you see that the joke is on you?

Perhaps this song with help:

I swear, I should probably post this video every other day.

Yes, the idea that Hollywood might spreading feminist propaganda did reach minds. Then those people either laughed themselves silly at the idea that a female action hero starring alongside a male action hero in hisovie would destroy men or asked themselves why it would be so bad if Hollywood made a feminist action movie after all, and then they all went to see the movie. ROK is totally the winning team here, guys.

… they can’t help but remember the site with the word Kings in the title that described that very phenomenon.

I think avclub.com put it most memorably:

How, [Anton Clarey] asks, could Australian director George Miller have so ruined and rewritten George Miller’s creation in such a way that so blatantly disregards this Australian franchise’s proud American heritage? America is where men live.

Couple this with Roosh’s pwning on the Dr. Oz show, and we’ve totally got a winning trend for the self-styled “Kings”. Yup, yup, yup.

The Tankbread trilogy is an Australian based zombie novel series – that has Aborigines living quite happily in the old way. It also has an awesome chick lead.

Has anyone in the manosphere remarked on the fact that Miller has another sequel script already written and it’s title is Furiosa? I’m just waiting for that collective gnashing of teeth. With how well the movie is doing it’s probably a foregone conclusion that the studio will fund production.

I love the men in the comments (not this article but another) whining “stop crying about lack of women in Hollywood and being paid less. Start making your own movies and stop making men do everything for you”

Then they turn around

“what about the men in the porn industry? They’re underrepresented and get paid less. Why aren’t you doing anything about that?”

The “Furious about Furiosa” article is what led me to this site a few days ago, and I’ve come here to read articles every day since. Thank you for pointing out the stupidity of these MRA morons and PUA goons.

Every time I see Furiosa as a movie title, I think of a sequel to a 1992 movie:
“Orlando II: Orlando Furiosa”. Tilda Swinton could have a cameo.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but Theron’s character’s name, “Imperator Furiosa” sounds like something I could imagine Hermione Granger intoning as she waves a wand at a Deatheater.

As it turns out, this brohaha has introduced MRAs to at least one guy–my dad apparently knows who they are now. He thinks they are a joke and recommended I go see Mad Max–he said he convinced my mother to go with him (she’s not a huge action movie fan).

He also send me pictures of a coyote he saw wandering around a local park. The coyote also would probably think MRAs are a joke.

So wait, RNC, are we supposed to condemn white South Africans and shun them professionally, or are we supposed to be angry at the injustice of violence against white South Africans? Or maybe it’s that you’re a fucking intellectually and ethically bankrupt pile of troll shit.

Let me get this straight; Return of Kings is a laughing stock across the mainstream media, the film Aaron Clarey wished everyone to boycott has just received a ton of free publicity, MRAs are pissy again because they don’t like being lumped in with the PUAs, and THIS is a victory for Return of Kings?

Not to mention the fact that Clarey’s article demonstrated his complete ignorance of the action sci fi genre, where as others have pointed out, powerful women are hardly anything new and haven’t yet caused the collapse of the film industry.

Hell, I may go and see this movie now, and I haven’t even seen the rest of the series.

I wonder what they’ll make of Scarlet Overkill in the new Minions movie?

Meanwhile, Charlize Theron’s kinfolk back in South Africa live in a real-life, Mad Max post-apocalypse. Just google about the attacks on white farmers in that country. But the Social Justice Warriors in the U.S. don’t care about them, just about the pretty blonde refugee from that country who entertains them with fantasies about grrl power.

What about us South African SJWs who quite enjoyed the movie?

You don’t need to have seen any of the earlier movies. The setting and the important parts of Max’s character are set up in the first two minutes and after that it’s all new. Also, it is completely fantastic, so I would recommend giving it a go.

Kind of makes me wonder what they’d consider a defeat?

@redneckcryonicist

Aww, I bet you spend hours of your day thinking up these clever posts and still only manage to repeat the same debunked nonsense every time. Those ess-jay-double-yews won’t know what hit them when you tell them they can’t like a movie if a white person from a country where white colonials treat the indigenous people badly is featured in it (unlike every other movie with a white American/Australian/South African that’s ever existed)! Take that ess-jay-double-yews! Smarty boy redneckcryonicist has LOGICKED you! He is a true hero who will be remembered forever.

I’m sort of disappointed that the only trolls not yet blocked from WHTM are just boring, repetitive, copypastas. I almost miss the doll wife weirdo.

Ah, yes, that ‘ol chestnut…

Sorry if I don’t believe that you care about that and simply using it as rhetorical ammunition – like every disingenuous MRA shithead. All who, by the way, don’t actually do much to resolve the issues they claim to supposedly care about as much as complain about women being evil incarnate and wallowing in their self-inflicted bitterness.

WOOOOT! This is the best thing ever. I will probably see this movie just because the MRAs don’t like it. Anyway I’m a medium-time lurker, first time caller, but I did buy a shirt, so…. That’s it. Just, so.

Hey RNC decided has dropped the “progressives should not like Theron because of white privilege” and cut straight to his own racism. It turns out he may not actually be concerned with “her black sisters [who] have to live in shanty towns in South Africa’s rape culture”: quelle surprise.

South Africa is not only Africa’s strongest and largest economy, it also attracts a surprising number of tourists for a post-apocalypse hellscape.

International tourism, number of arrivals – Country Ranking – SA is 31 out 188

I wish MRAs realized “grrl power” stopped being a thing in the late 1990s and was barely a thing before that.

So it looks like this week 4 of the top 5 grossing movies are led by women: Pitch Perfect, Mad Max, Hot Pursuit, and Age of Adaline (plus Avengers which also has some kick ass feeeeemales). When will the misandry stop?

I’m assuming they’ll whine about the Hollywood Ghost in the shell remake in a few years

(As much as I disagree with casting Scarlet Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi I’ll still go see it)

(Although it would be amazing if Scarjo plays Motoko for only a few minutes until Motoko changes into a different prosthetic body)
