A Voice for Men doesn’t hate Mad Max Fury Road, except when it does

Charlize Theron committing misandries in Mad Max Fury Road

Apparently someone at A Voice for Men missed the meeting where they all get assigned their opinions to promote on social media for the day. On Twitter, Dean Esmay accuses a Huffington Post writer of lying about MRAs urging people not to see Mad Max: Fury Road:

https://twitter.com/deanesmay/status/598957659774164994

It’s true that the HuffPo writer, in the original version of her piece, wrongly described the MRA-adjacent Return of Kings — which has urged a boymancott of Mad Max Fury Road —  as a Men’s Rights site proper. There are in fact some differences between ROK and AVFM. For example, while AVFM writers have declared women to be “obnoxious cunts,” who control men with their vaginas, ROK writers have suggested that women are actually depraved, disloyal sheep.

But it turns out that AVFMers have been — evidently behind Esmay’s back — railing against the movie themselves. I would like to draw Mr. Esmay’s attention to this meme, posted yesterday on AVFM’s Facebook page.

NOTE: When I refer to the “meeting where they all get assigned their opinions to promote on social media for the day” I am being a tad facetious, in that I don’t know for sure that they do actually have opinion-distribution meetings. It’s possible that the members of AVFM’s social media flying monkey squad decide to spout the same things en masse by accident.

NOTE 2: When I refer to AVFM’s “AVFM’s social media flying monkey squad” I am being a tad facetious as well, as I have no proof that they can actually fly.

EDIT: Dean is still at it! Yet another tweet:

I saw the movie tonight and thought it was a really good time. Awesome vehicle and costume design. Lots of action that rarely dies down. It kept me tense the whole time. The most “feminist” thing I could see in the movie was where the “breeders” state through graffiti on a wall that “we are not things”. Other than that a bunch of women do end up kicking ass.

WWTH:

Since Woody has left us, I think it’s time to start saying “shut up, redneckcronyist!”

I kinda prefer “shoo”for this one because now I think of xir as a raccoo on my porch. ;P

…I’m not sure redneckcronyist has shown the pure determination and devotion to his cause that earned Woody a special spot in WHTM lore.

So far all he’s really done is pretty much copypasta’d himself on two threads.

Woody… was kind of hilarious. And he had a bit of sticking power. And there was another Woody that got SO ANGRY that we enjoyed batting around the other Woody instead of him.

Having literally just got back from Fury Road, I have this to say.
Fury Road is awesome.

Rest assured, Furiosa and the Wives are no damsels. In fact, Max doesn’t even try to help them when they first meet, he steals their vehicle. The Wives also take an active role in their escape.

To clarify, Max tries to steal their vehicle, but Furiosa shuts him down quick.

I believe that they call “false rape sequences” because you know, there is no rape in a marriage (my understandings is that the sex slaves are called “wives” in the context of the movie).

Awesome!! That meme makes me want to see the movie even more (I am going to see it tomorrow in fact). I am looking forward to Furiosa’s misandrying. 😀

sunnysombrera-“Didn’t you know? Women who are kidnapped, taken from their homes and families and violently forced to have sex with strange men, while given no chance to escape, are actually consenting to the whole thing. If they are freed and then cry rape and abduction it’s just regret talking.”

It wouldn’t surprise me if these douchenozzles actually think like that. Why else would they call it a ‘false rape’ sequence? Sick bastards.

Esmay’s tweats lately read like the ranting’s of a sweaty guy ranting nonsense on a street-corner..some of his tweets about this yesterday tagged in @JudgyBitch1 ..a account we all know has been suspended literally 3-4 months ago. I mean it doesn’t even make sense..he sounds unhinged…..More than usual I mean.

@misseb
Wouldn’t surprise me. Like Zaki said the fact that the women are called “The Wives” probably sets off a chain of thought in MRAs that goes like this:
They’re called The Wives, therefore they ARE wives (logick!) > they got married willingly because women are never forced into a marriage they don’t want > marriage is an ongoing statement of consent therefore they weren’t raped.

Also, David, can you PLEASE do a post on ROK’s response to the firing of FHRITP Hydro One guy? It’s hilariously stupid. I can’t link to it while on my phone but it’s easy to find on their page.

Just back from seeing Fury Road. I loved it so much. It may be the perfect action film. I really hope the public goes to see it (the screening I was in was fairly full at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon, so that’s a good sign) as I would really love to see the sequel – if only for the MRA meltdown when they find out that the title is Mad Max: Furiousa

If we never watched a movie with a privileged person in it we have to boycott all films with white Americans in it. After all, we are a people who are still benefiting from the aftermath of slavery.

English people people would be right out too. They had an empire that subjugated people all over the world.

..and Charlize Theron is not a pretty girl. She’s a gorgeous, talented, hard working woman. Recognize and respect that.

@Lea If we never watched a movie with a privileged person in it, we’d never watch any movie, period, since they’re all full of movie stars enjoying wealth privilege.

I was also confused by the phrase “false rape sequences.” I would hope that any depiction of rape in a film is “false.” Even something horrifically graphic like Irreversible is assumed to be a skilled simulation- that’s sort of the point of fiction. Are they trying to say “unrealistic?” Because that might be true (I haven’t seen the film yet, though these people make me want to), but I’d imagine a lot in this movie is exaggerated. My guess is they talk so much about false rape accusations that they can’t handle the idea that some rapes are real.

Woody LEFT? Well that’s… that’s just…

Actually, now that I think of it, I don’t actually care all that much. ExploreNature though, please tell me that crank still drops by!

RE: Quartzok-43

More triggered basement-dwellers, nice!

Who mentioned triggers?

Pfft. The only people without privilege are dead.

I’m with the ‘Woody LEFT ?’ crowd. Except I kinda do care cos…I’d got fond of that troll. And the trolls we get these days…not worth getting fond of.
Where’s a troll with real stamina, who has long term staying power ?

Figures. I never expect these idjits to be on the same page. XD

Oh, and RNC, stop repeating yourself. We heard (and addressed) you the first time.

(I’m still on vacation, just on my mom’s tablet while she and my sister are hanging out, so replies will be short.)

I also kind of miss Woody. He had a lot of personality, even if his schtick was of the one-note variety. And who could forget how long and how bravely he fought to overcome his incredibly simple troll challenge? Sporkle.

Shut up, Woody.

There is something utterly delightful about someone who is so incredibly invested in foisting his opinions on people who don’t care that he’ll voluntarily do things designed to make him look silly in order to be allowed to do so.
