UK Election: Mike Buchanan of the Justice for Men and Boys party gets 153 votes. Not 153,000. 153.

Apparently the UK elections are a bit of a disaster. But there is one bit of good news amidst the wreckage:

Mike Buchanan of the Justice for Men and Boys party is a huge loser.

I mean, he was already a huge loser, a misogynistic doofus in a suit best known for his over-the-top attacks on feminists as, among other things, “bigots,” man-haters, “unattractive women,” and “hatchet-faced miserable women who object to men finding attractive women attractive.” He’s also a longtime friend of Men’s Rights hate site A Voice for Men.

Now he’s a huge loser electorally speaking as well.

Here’s the Nottingham Post with the details:

The leader of the Justice for Men and Boys party Mike Buchanan deliberately targetted Labour’s Gloria De Piero at the general election in deciding to stand against her on a platform of anti-feminism and pro-male rights.

Mr Buchanan opted to stand in Ashfield as Miss De Piero was the Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities in the last Government.

He came last, polling 153 votes.

I would like to congratulate the voters — at least all but 153 of them — for their wisdom.

UPDATE: The other J4MB party member running for office (in Broxtowe) came in last in his race as well, with all of 63 votes.

H/T — ej, in the We Hunted the Mammoth comments, for passing along the electoral results.

@Ellesar

Paul Birch of the Cannabis is Safer Than Alcohol Party (known by my kids as the Smoke Weed Every Day Party) got 297!

Only 123 votes short.

One bright note at least. I’ve been a bit down watching the numbers creep up.

What will the English speaking political world do without having to meet half a dozen preposterous challenges from chucklefucks united every month?

Chucklefucks United. Love it. Let’s please adopt this as the informal term for Mike’s party.

The SNP is the only left-wing party in the UK. OH, OK, the Greens are left wing but I know people in England who looked into the Greens cos they didn’t have the SNP option, and their economics theory is lousy. Labour have moved to the right, Lib-Dems sold out last election. Thank the Goddess I live in Scotland and had the SNP option

“And UKIP lost a seat instead of gaining a predicted 8.”

Hope this trend continues…the fact they have any seats is disturbing.

@sonnysombrera:

Would someone mind actually telling me what happened in Canada? I’m excited now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_general_election,_2015

Essentially, Alberta, which has long been referred to as Texas North (oilfields, ranchers, and extremely conservative politics) just had the NDP win the last election after being run by the less extreme of the two local conservative parties continuously for the last… 23 years, I think it was. The NDP, or New Democratic Party, is the left-most of the parties that actually get seats in Canada; it’s the party with direct ties to the Labour/Union movement.

While vote-splitting between the two conservative parties (Progressive Conservative and Wildrose) was probably part of it, the other side of it was that the Progressive Conservatives were not well liked due to the way they’d handled the changing economic times, and they deliberately attempted to game the election system by calling an election while the Wildrose party was just getting ready (which often pisses off the people who are paying attention). End result was the previous ruling party lost most of their support in the two big cities, and the rural areas tended towards the Wildrose to start with.

So we’ve got a union/socialist government in Texas North. (Granted, Calgary already had a Muslim mayor.) Going to be an interesting next few years. And hopefully they’ll learn lessons from what happened when Ontario went NDP under Bob Rae, who swept to power under similar circumstances in 1990.

Thank you for this information about the Canadian political landscape. I know of many supporters of extreme UK and US politics in Alberta. Though to be fair some are in Ontario and Halifax, so I guess cranks are everywhere. *shrugs*

Had a little cry watching the conservatives do so well. This has cheered me up a tiny bit.

The nice thing about such a loss is that he will have also lost his £500 deposit, which is the hallmark of utterly failing at politics. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

On a semi related note, with all the MPs now returned, we’ve got about 33% women.

But all of England voted for the Tories…and as a female living on disability they hate me

In the article David linked to, the chap in red is a Father’s Rights campaigner running in the same constituency as David Cameron. He got 57 votes.

BTW I’m English and I didn’t vote Tory.

Unfortunately the 2nd candidate was in my sister’s area, I warned about him just in case she accidentally voted for him!

I’m imagining a slightly different future in which the UK votes to leave the EU, Scotland secedes (and takes the Northern Six) with them, and rejoins the EU, leaving England as isolated as it was under the Stuarts. With any luck, it would destroy Tory credibility for a generation.

Hahaha, that was amazing. Especially this part:

[De Piero] said: “Whether you voted for me, or Helen, or Philip, or Simon, I promise to represent you all, and work tirelessly for you all.”

The three individuals Ms De Piero cited were respectively the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and UKIP candidates. So it’s only men in Ashfield for whom she won’t work tirelessly over the next five years.

Yup, she won’t be working for the men, because all of the male voters are among the 153 individuals who voted for Mike Buchanan. Seriously, they still pretend like all men agree with them even in the face of absolute proof of the contrary.

and we know they received many formal complaints

Well possibly so; but when they all come from the same person, i.e. you, they’re likely to receive the lack of attention they deserve.
