Vox Day: "Feminism is a Satanic, anti-Christian, anti-reason, anti-science ideology that destroys literally everything it touches and everyone who embraces it."

Man protecting himself from the evils of feminism
Man protecting himself from the evils of feminism

Oh dear. Fantasy author and garbage person Vox Day is having one of those (vox) days, and has decided to take it out on, you guessed it, feminism, pounding out an overwrought little rant on his Alpha Game blog.

Never give feminists an inch. Don’t agree with them, don’t tolerate them, show them no mercy whatsoever. Feminism is a Satanic, anti-Christian, anti-reason, anti-science ideology that destroys literally everything it touches and everyone who embraces it.

Wow. He’s so mad he’s practically plagiarizing Pat Robertson’s famous quote about feminism being “a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.” I’m not sure how Vox managed to forget the lesbian witchcraft angle.

Reject it and its adherents the way you would reject someone offering you plutonium on their bare hands; to accept it is to begin to die a slow and painful death.

Might I offer you some notes, Vox? This bit seems a little understated. I mean, the plutonium thing is pretty good, but a person handing you plutonium isn’t anywhere near as scary as having, say, a bear do it. Or a shark. Or a bear-shark. Or a bear-sharknado.

The problem isn’t merely that feminists are ugly and hateful, or that their ideology is incoherent and deluded, but that by mere toleration of them, through mere intellectual contact with it, you are permitting your life to be infected and degraded.

Clearly Vox, a dude who clings to memories of his D-list celebrity as a former member of an angsty dance band two decades ago, and who devotes much of his life to pounding out hateful and unintentionally self-parodic rants on the internet, offers us the very model of a healthy and happy life well-lived.

Reject all of it. Reject their appeals to equality. Reject their pretense to intellectual standing. And most of all, personally reject all of those who subscribe to it in any way, shape, or form. Any man who calls himself a feminist is ideologically transgender and mentally unstable.

Ideologically transgender? Wow. He’s come up with an even more obnoxious way to call someone a “mangina.”

Vox, you’re so cute when you’re angry!

And by cute I mean a you’re a pathetic, hateful, disgusting excuse for a human being.

As a Christian and a feminist who has been seriously studying the issue of gender in the Bible for years, and is currently prepping to teach a New Testament overview class: Color me shocked (shocked, I say!) that feminism is anti-Christian. I’ll have to delete the book “Jesus Feminist” off my Kindle and throw away my own WIP manuscript. I’d better get right on boycotting every one of the burgeoning number of Christian feminist authors all over the internet and even in mainstream conservative Christian publishing. While we’re at it, we’d better retroactively excommunicate all of the Christians (mostly women) who helped spearhead the suffrage movement in the U.S. And I’d better tell the speaker who just visited our church, who runs an organization to help trafficked sex workers, that he’s apparently doing the work of the devil, seeing as he talked about male privilege, the male gaze, and slut shaming in his sermon, believing them all to be Real Things that hurt women. He even quoted Dworkin, not to mock her, but to demonstrate that she had a pretty good point. That’s got to be, like, super heresy or something.

Guys like Vox who spout this kind of nonsense induce the headdesk in me like few other things do. Dude. I guarantee you I have thought about this more than you. You’d better believe I’ve spent a lot of time grappling with my own religion as it relates to social justice. But sure, go ahead and keep spouting your completely baseless assertions, things you don’t even try to prove, because apparently being loud and angry makes you right. Unless it’s a feminist doing it, in which case they have no right to be loud and angry, no matter how much actual logic they have on their side.

(@griffon8 – I won’t go into my exposition of that verse, because it would be an obnoxioulsy huge teal deer, but even with that verse, I don’t believe that Christianity is inherently anti-feminist. I will, however, readily concede that there have been hideous amounts of patriarchal abuses in our history—but I think that has a lot more to do with (mostly) white men with lots of money and political power than it does with the original book. Just for whatever that’s worth.)

Oh, and unrelatedly: John Scalzi is the man. I finally picked up one of his novels after following his Twitter feed and blog for a while now—it was pretty good!

Wait – don’t a lot of MRAs belong to the hypocritically-hateful anti-religious sects (for lack of a better word) of fundamentalist (again, for lack of a better word) atheism? Are they just projecting again?

I do think a disproportionate number of them are atheist but I don’t think a majority are or anything. You get lots of angry white men from atheism and christianity.

M. – some MRAs are of the frothingly anti-theist variety (look at the ongoing rage that Rebecca Watson dared suggest pursuing someone into a lift and hitting on her at 4am isn’t the greatest idea) – but they seem to hate feminism more than they hate religion.

There are also douchecanoes like Poxy here, who pretend to be super-serious edumacated Christians, who also hate feminism.

Different flavours of the same thing, really.

Kooitiepatra, your WIP book sounds interesting!

But of course, you and all those authors and that speaker are probably No True Christians(c) and just cover agents for SATAN!!!1eleventy!! according to the He-Man Woman Hater’s Club, Religious Division.

You don’t know the hell he’s been through – once a woman had the gall to speak to him at a party without paying for her insolence with sex!
On another occasion one had the temerity to be in the same room when she wasn’t even a 9! Can you imagine! That poor, poor man!
Also, he has to live with himself 24 hours a day – which sucks even before you consider that he’s got to read everything he ever writes (yes, including the stuff he’s unprepared to make public). Admittedly it sounds like he doesn’t read it over-critically or with any kind of self-awareness or sense of irony, but…

Mouse Farts:

Yeah, I’m actually pretty sure feminism is only anti-fundamentalist-Christian.

What baffles me is why any reasonable woman would choose that for herself. It is not a recipe for healthy self esteem.

Generally I think you’ve got to have been basically brain-washed into it.

A friend of mine, his sister is a full-on anti-science creationist. She allows him to teach her child science* – as far as we can tell purely because he’s a man and therefore not to be argued with. AFAICT it’s not something she grew up with. We think it comes from her husband who is a bit of a cult.
What I’m saying is she’s not choosing it for herself as such, somehow she’s been led to a point where she isn’t allowed to choose any more as she’s just a woman and it’s not her place.

“Ideologically transgender”? So he thinks that men and women should have completely separate and opposed ideologies and this is normal and just a facet of their gender (ridiculous, but let’s go with it), but that women should shut up about theirs (because feminism is Satanic and blah blah)? Yeah, that seems reasonable.

The way I see it they just use whatever they believe to justify their douchebaggery. I think in some ways being religious helps because there’s all that great material to read whatever the hell they want into, probably reinforced with some form of abuse. The atheist ones… wait, they have ‘science’ and all that great material to draw on and read whatever the hell they want into, probably reinforced with some form of abuse.
I suspect none of them are agnostic as they’re clearly fundamentalist types and can’t be anything other than zealots about anything.

Wait wait wait. That makes no sense. A bear-sharknado is a weather system. How could a weather system hand you plutonium? A reasonable system wouldn’t suggest a scenario where a weather system hands one plutonium. By this anti-reason statement, I suspect, sir, that you are in fact.. A FEMINIST!

Red Panda is superior panda in that it can reproduce without much effort and will eat more than one thing. Giant pandas are adorable, but really, that whole failure to make babies thing is an issue.

Is it just me, or is the MRA crowd becoming more and more transphobic as more trans women find themselves welcomed by third-wave intersectional feminism?

Pretty sure that MRAs and related misogynists who love toxic masculinity have always been transphobic in the “likely to commit actual violence against trans women and claim they were justified because of trans panic”. Except for the woman-hating transwomen of course, who also are hardcore misogynists and are a more recent branch of the “new misogyny” stinkwood tree.

Kittehserf: don’t. With the heavy prevalence of cat pictures on the Internet and peoples tendency to tolerate their annoying habits because they’re cute, I’m fairly sure kitties are in line to take over the world. I’d rather not ally with them unwittingly. :/

(I have spoken out against the Furrinati and I am now afraid).

are all you thinking what I’m thinking? Are you?

Oh joy, We we will never have to deal with anyone who takes Vox seriously again, removed from our lives forever.

Good riddance.

How is this a bad thing? I am looking for the downside. I can’t see it.

Vox Day responds with “look, even a feminist guy gets attacked when he’s at his most subservient. Feminists are so terrible.” Despite the fact that Scott’s post was pretty much 100% Nice Guy ™ insecurity that wasn’t very feminist at all, and despite the criticisms pointing this out.

Ufff. Scott Aaronson is no feminist guy. He’s a walking neurosis who projects his own paranoia onto others and then looks through the works of precisely ONE feminist — the “worst” he can think of — in order to justify his persecution complex. And points to that saying “See? I told you! Feminists EEEEEBIL! No wonder I can’t get my pimply ass laid! Maybe we should bring back traditional arranged marriages, that would be the answer to all the horrors of my sad existence!” Et cetera. If THAT’s feminist, then my cat must be a dog in disguise.
