Holidaze open thread (with kitties)

It was dogs. Dogs did it.
It was dogs. Dogs did it.

Since my last couple of posts this Christmas eve were a little Christmas-ruiny, here are some cats who’ve come up with much more adorable ways to ruin Christmas. And here’s an open thread to discuss them and whatever else you want, regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas or not.

No trolls, no MRAs, no jerks.  Email the mods if anyone gets drunk and sits in the eggnog.

Cat pics commence after the jump.

Congratulations inurashii! That’s amazing!

So much cuteness… (warning… all the following are animated gifs… and there’s a lot, but I’ll split them into separate posts)

Happy Holidays to all, and a special congrats to Inu and their loved one!

So, I got to open presents from family tonight, as we usually do, and I got a tube of Lisa Frank chapstick.

It’s like my childhood has come back in some small way amongst the warm, fluffy pajamas, slippers and the graphic video game I had asked for.

And apparently my mom had shipped my present and my grandmother’s present out late, so yay mail!

I saw this and I had to share:

My sister got her kids bug catchers and nets for Christmas. Cue the mass exodus of insect life from the garden.

In other news, brandy-infused raspberry trifle is a triumph I can highly recommend. And pavlova is much easier to make thank you think. And Maggie Beer knows how to roast chicken.

And now I’m napping after a bottle of bubbles and a couple of helpings of the 0.05 Trifle Deluxe.

And then I saw this:

I need to go to bed before I asplode from cuteness overload.

Just spent the evening watching Pirates of the Caribbean. Haven’t seen it for years, and dammit, I still like Barbossa best!

We’re just home — late — after spending the day with two adorable pugs (and almost 20 two legged folks). I never knew that there was such a thing as an advent calendar for a dog, with a carob treat behind each day’s window, but there were two of these things on the pantry door, one for each of them as well as stockings full of doggy fun things in the living room. And the youngest kid got some of the bestest presents including a thingamajig that produces gi.gan.tic soap bubbles. Huge fun!! (Outside the house.)

Of course, this was after a full scale disaster before the day was barely started. We had the ham. Daughter 2 was cooking the turkey, no car, so we volunteered to drive down to town to pick up her and partner and big parcel of hot stuff. All the meat needing carving would arrive in one hit. Soooooo the radiator in the car Blew Itself Up when we were halfway there. We were stuck on the side of the road waiting for road service, and a tow truck to put the mouldy cherry on the shit sundae, and phones were running hot all over the place arranging for other people to help out with three sudden transport problems. The service bloke suspected that the thermostat was stuffed and/or there’s some blockage or other in the coolant circulation because the reservoir was visibly full to the top so there’s no obvious reason for pressure to build up in the system. No help at all when you’d much rather not need him or the tow truck or the car repairs in the first place.

I arrived at daughter 1’s house in full-blown grumpy sourface party pooper mode. But I settled down a bit once everything was under way. Everyone liked the gifts we got for them so that was pleasing, especially the kids, buying clothes for teenage girls is always a bit nerve wracking but they loved the dresses and shirts so all was well.

Congratulations, inurashii!

I haven’t been watching Doctor Who Christmas episodes — too busy and too tired! Also, last year’s was a big ol’ kick right in the feels.

I got used to Christmas with Matt Smith in the TARDIS — he was a big ol’ fluffy puppy who loved Christmas so much he’d jump right into the tree and roll around in the chaos. Capaldi’s grumpy Twelve is going to be a big change.

The babies got a percussion set, a kitchen play set, and lots of toy cars this year.

Congratulations, inurashii! 🙂 And a Merry Winterval to all!

Won’t spoil Doctor Who for anyone who hasn’t seen it today, but I was really rooting for Clara to be killed off, (Not saying she was or wasn’t, either way).
Maybe I’m just particularly grinchy and misanthropic because Beloved and I are doing separate family Christmases this year, and I feel like I’m missing out on something fun to do something less fun, but important to do because Family.

Or, I may be moderately depressed. Still, I have a lot to be thankful for, so I’ll be trying to fend off the brain-weasels.

Peace & Joy.

On first viewing, I thought Doctor Who “Last Christmas” was absolutely brilliant. That said, after “Death in Heaven” (adored it after first viewing, have come to dislike it intensely since), I’m going to have a few more viewings before I make up my mind, just in case.

I’m debating whether or not to post three hints, here. Just… three names to three films. Yes, related to the Christmas special.
