So while poking about the manosphere today I followed a link from an obscure Men’s Rights blog over to Alex Jones’ Infowars site — specifically to the comments on a news article about a study that claims internet porn is destroying marriage.

Jones, as you may know, is essentially the king of the world’s conspiracy theorists, so naturally I expected his commenters to be pretty unhinged. What I didn’t realize is that they would also all be Men’s Rights Activists.

Well, maybe they don’t all call themselves that, but they certainly think like MRAs; several even linked to a site for Men Going Their Own Way.

Most commenters agreed that porn was a better deal than a wife; after all, as numerous wits declared, porn won’t steal half your money in a divorce.

But alongside such familiar, indeed cliché, sentiments there were also some pretty inspired mini-rants. Here’s my favorite, which received several dozen upvotes from the regulars, making it one of the most popular comments in the 373-comment thread.

Laci Green does give good advice when it comes to sex, and she doesn’t shame men’s sexuality, so I have no idea what that lady’s on about.

However, she’s aggressively anti-theism, very transphobic, and refuses to take an ounce of criticism on when she is, so she’s still not that great. : /

The point of posting that video wasn’t about defending Laci though. The point was to offer up an example of an MRA claiming that male sexuality included sexual harassment and was naturally aggressive. The FeMRA (Cristal Garcia, I believe) who made the video was responding to videos that Laci made about not objectifying women and not catcalling. Cristal’s argument was that, by asking men not to do these things, Laci Green was apparently revealing her hatred of male sexuality, which apparently include objectification and harassment. ManWalk asked for examples of MRAs making those kinds of claims, and Cristal’s rant was a good one that I remembered.

The screencapping thing is interesting to me because it’s such a fine example of projection. These channers are used to behaving in ways that they know are reprehensible or even criminal and defending themselves only by their anonymity and by the lack of a permanent archive. They know that simply collecting what they’ve said and putting their own name on it would be disastrous for them, so they assume that everyone else is the same.

They have no conception that other people might actually stand by their words.

katz, plus the only times comments get deleted here are if they’re from trolls, or (rarely) because someone’s inadvertently posted personal information, or (equally rarely) someone, usually someone new, has said something wishing real violence on misogynists, racists, using slurs, etc. It has to be pretty bad before David will delete it, and he most often puts a note in saying what he’s done. (I will delete trolls-who’re-headed-for-the-banhammer comments just to poke them, but that’s after I’ve said so, and I know David will likely restore them when he’s online.)
