This is the final day of the We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive! If you haven’t already, please consider sending some bucks my way. (And don’t worry that the PayPal page says Man Boobz.) Thanks!
I thought I’d seen every variety of rape apologism known to humankind. But this is a new one for me: Fantasy author and garbage human Vox Day (aka Theodore Beale) has decided that all claims of rape directed at white guys are suspect because … white guys don’t rape.
No, really. That’s his actual argument:
White American men simply don’t rape these days. At this point, unless a womann claims it was committed by a black or Hispanic man she didn’t previously know, all claims of rape, especially by a college woman, have to be considered intrinsically suspect.
His, er, source for these claims? A post from the website Women For Men — founded by familiar names Suzanne Venker, Helen Smith and Christina Hoff Sommers — about a video of unknown provenance of a shouting match that involves a white woman accusing a presumably white man of rape. (There are no details on the alleged incident, and it’s not clear from watching the almost literally unbelievable video what exactly happened or if the video is even real.) Needless to say, even if the video is 100% real it doesn’t actually provide anything even remotely approaching evidence for Vox’s racist claims.
Which isn’t surprising given that they aren’t, you know, true. When it comes to rape, of course, whites and blacks are overwhelmingly — roughly 8 out of 10 times — victimized by members of their own race. And in most cases, as is well-known, rapes are committed by people the victim knows, not the proverbial man hiding in the bushes.
Vox continues on, pulling more “facts” from his posterior:
No one believes that women don’t lie about rape anymore. Even the average feminist is now rolling her eyes when a college woman comes forward and cries rape. This was the inevitable result of creating St. Rape Victim, now every attention-seeking young woman wants to have been raped.
One of Vox’s commenters puts the cherry on this shit sundae:
It’s a sad state of affairs when women have to resort to these tactics to get attention. And even more sad state when they are the ones who put themselves there in the first place by embracing everything that makes them unattractive to men.
Back when Vox was expelled from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, you may recall, he purported to be outraged that people were calling him racist.
This is the same guy who said that because “it took the Germans less than four years to rid themselves of 6 million Jews” the U.S. could easily deport “12 million illegal aliens” in eight years. And then there was his response to “melanin-enhanced” folks who don’t like being told they’re articulate by white people:
“Maybe if every B-L-to-tha-izzack thugz heard dippin’ on televizzles did not bark like li’l gangsta dogz or like they wuz steppin’ wit a mouffull of collahd motha-fuckin greenz, white boy would not be surprised wizzle meet’n an indivijall of African descent who is capable of clockin’ normal American E-bizzle like a motha fucka. Damn!”
Yes, he did that:

Let us embrace everything that makes us unattractive to Theodore Beale.
Reblogged this on Artemis Flight Books and commented:
I try not to reblog stories from out of school, especially related to people who tend to be lionized by the folks over at GooberGrape. But seriously, this is a time when I have to bite my lip and take a stand.
Vox Day is, for the perhaps two people reading who don’t know, a particularly bigoted stain on the face of science fiction and fantasy writing. In a genre laced with its unfortunate sampling of neoconservative and neoreactionary writers, Vox Day is perhaps one of the bigger problems in the land. To quote his rationalwiki entry: “[he] is a science fiction author, game designer, musician, pseudo-libertarian, anti-vaxxer, racist, Christian apologist, pickup artist, stalker, and all-round […] idiot. He is the epitome of evidence that not all artists are sensible, intelligent people, contrary to stereotype.” He also claims to have some (presumably small, given his appearance) quantum of indigenous American ancestry and uses this token as an attempt to shield himself from liberal criticism.
Oh yeah, and his dad’s in the clink for tax evasion.
“One of the painful things about our time is that those who feel certainty are stupid, and those with any imagination and understanding are filled with doubt and indecision.” —Bertrand Russell
So yeah. In case you were wondering: Theodore Beale? Not a fan.
Meanwhile, on Vox Popoli.

How much will someone bet me that she will in good time claim to have been “raped” by a white no doubt very blond white man.
Every time you think they can’t get more willfully stupid – I’ve run out of other terms for it – they prove they can.
No words can express how I feel about this so I’ll just let Alan Rickman do it.

WWTH: Thank you! I totally second that shit.
I don’t believe there’s a word in the English language to describe how disgusting I think that man is. There’s just no word for it.
EVEN IF the video was genuine and had interesting to say about the frequency of false rape claims… There is nothing cited nor referred to that would introduce race into the equation.
Vox saw a video related to rape on college campuses, and decided to inject assertions about race. Because why the fuck not.
You know, just in case the surface level events weren’t disgusting enough.
Poor, poor Theodore, how far he has fallen. I wonder if Simon and Alvin still talk to him, or if when they see him they pretend not to know him. Theodore was always the slow one of the bunch.
In the US the majority of crimes are committed by white males and yet they are not the majority occupying the US prisons. History demonstrates the consequences of this zombie lie that white men never stop telling one another.
I am amazed that they seem to think rape is the one and only crime where the victim wants attention paid to it. Hello? We have an entire criminal justice system and news media designed to pay lots and lots of attention to crime. So why the eff would drawing attention to a crime be a bad thing?
Ted Bundy
All I can manage is “smashy smashy”.
If I wanted attention, I’d eat cinnamon on YouTube. I wouldn’t subject myself to humiliating physical exams, interrogations about my behavior, dress, and past sexual history, intense pressure to drop the charges so as not to “make a scene” or “ruin” the perpetrator’s life, and gutter slime like Theodore Beale questioning my motives, my sanity, my morality, and my dignity at every turn.
Evil people constantly attribute malicious intent to every behavior, because they lack empathy and can’t conceive of any other way that people might relate to one another.
Well, today I learned I’ve actually never been sexually assaulted, since white guys don’t do that. Awesome!
(sorry for being flippant, but it’s that or set something on fire with my rage.)
How could evwn his awful supporters stand with him after what Miss Andry described above? Don’t they usually prefer their racism a bit more cloaked in dog-whistles? That is just so blatant and proud.
This is a guest list for a terrible dinner party as well.
Vox is telling them to embrace their own extremists and extremism.
Ugh. I’m starting to think of creepy indulgent revenge porn involving sharp blades and a garbage disposal (so there won’t be anything worth trying to sew back on).
This is not what I need the week before Christmas. Here, how about something happy (well, maybe a touch bittersweet at the end but it makes me smile)?
Is it wrong that I thought of Vox Day going through that ordeal and smiled?
This has all just made me very angry and very depressed. It makes me angry that this is how Vox believes a just society should be treating victims. It makes me angry to know that Vox believes guilt can be decided purely through physical apearence; and the continued existence of this type of ignorance and hatred in modern society makes me very, very depressed.
I need to go find and watch that “Puny God” scene about ten times in a row.
Maybe then I’ll be able to find words to express how terrible and wrong I think this is.
Hopefully, it’ll also make my blood pressure go down a bit.
I wonder if Scalzi will blast this with scorn and mockery. Be good if he does – that’ll get Teddy boy into a right little frothrage.
It wasn’t a black man who inserted himself into my mouth without consent, it was a fucking WHITE guy. Snotz Day really needs to shut. the. FUCK. up.
Also,
Wrong again. I am the average feminist, and the only thing I’m rolling my eyes at is assholes like this, making such completely idiotic noises about a subject that they clearly don’t know dick about.
Pun intended.
I can’t help but suspect Vox Day doesn’t believe white men can rape because white men outrank everyone else, therefore when they force a woman to have sex, it is them enforcing their natural rights. Men of color are lower in the hierarchy, and so if they force a (white, I suspect) woman to have sex with them, that is rape.

Also, Pan is sleeping on my lap with his head on my hand. He helps.
