This next story is almost unbelievable: There existed, until earlier this week, a PR firm in Austin called Strange Fruit PR. You know, like the Billie Holiday song. The Billie Holiday song ABOUT LYNCHING. Apparently the founders of the firm (who were, of course, white) thought they could use the phrase t0 mean “someone who stood out in a crowd.”

And then there’s our boner-notes troll from the other thread, who thinks his largely “neck-up relationships” (i.e. FANTASIES) are proof that women actually WANT to be raped, and that we all secretly like it rough.

Reblogged this on Dreams of the Shining Horizon and commented:
Because there’s always some asshole who asks why the victim never reported it to the police, as if that’s incontrovertible proof that it never happened.

@Unimaginative, that is awesome!

Shit. I posted something about a woman not reporting in another thread before I saw this. It would probably fit better here, so I’ll just paste it. Hope nobody minds!

Supermodel Beverly Johnson has just admitted to being drugged by Bill Cosby
http://gawker.com/supermodel-beverly-johnson-says-bill-cosby-drugged-her-1669868882

Luckily she escaped, but she said this.

black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like [me], an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.

It’s heartbreaking how little black women have mattered in anti-racism movements. It makes me so mad that there’s pressure on black women to sweep abusive and misogynistic behavior from black men under the rug. That racism is used as a silencing tactic against victims.

Fuck everything. I need a drink.

The local radio DJ this morning lamented that Bill Cosby was having a hard time. I just turned it off.

@WWTH, every once in a while, I check out the What About Our Daughters blog, just to be horrified. The age-old, irritating “just put your concerns on the back burner, women, we have more urgent things to deal with right now” trend is amped up, magnified, and just everywhere when you add in dealing with racial bigotry as well.

@WWTH, I think I still have absinthe…

I always thought that if I ever became a victim of sexual assault, I’d say something.

This is quote is what hurts the most. While I have not been assaulted, I have had this thought and I’d be willing to bet that most women have as well. I hate the fact that we have to think like this, like we have to convince ourselves that reporting a crime committed against us is the right thing to do. I hate the fact that we feel the need to prepare ourselves in case we are assaulted and to steel ourselves for everything that comes after.

I think you guys are right about the hair thing: It’s a sign of willingness to be mildly transgressive, which is a dealbreaker for these guys.

OMG, wookit all da bootiful snowkitties!

And that leaping snow-fox is the best. I’ve seen them do that in long grass, too (they’re pouncing on mice), and it’s a laugh riot. Such a perfectly graceful jump from a dead standstill. Kitties do it too, from time to time…

If you read the Beverly Johnson essay at Vanity Fair, for the love of Bootsy do not read the comments. I should expect rampant rape apologism on these stories by now. But I still feel ill.

Love the snowy brain bleach!
