This somewhat alarming video was recently posted in Reddit’s GamerGhazi subreddit. It features Sarkeesian Effect co-creator Jordan Owen explaining, at some length, his disagreements with antiporn feminist Gail Dines over the book Fifty Shades of Grey. (Dines, you see, was Owen’s previous obsession, before he discovered Anita Sarkeesian; this video is a couple of years old.) Alas, the sound cuts out about halfway through the nearly hour-long video, so you won’t get to hear the whole thing.
You might also be slightly distracted by the fact that Owen delivers this lengthy critique while sitting naked in a bathtub.
* sentence structure alert – ‘She actually died’ refers to my cat, not my sister! I’m sure you all made the leap, but as a former copywriter I could not. let. that. stand.
That’s a great story. One of my favorite things about cats is that you don’t pick them. They pick you.
Lots of sad kitty stories today. ๐
We had a little scare with one of mine a little while back. She just suddenly started losing a lot of weight, got really lethargic etc, and then she had some sort of small seizure. We took her to the vet, and it turned out she’d been bitten by another cat. Nothing serious, but it was enough to make her pretty ill.
She’s fine now, but she’s an old lady (she’s at least 20 years old now). Hard not to worry about them when they’re that old.
Tracy, all the hugs. That’s so much like how Katie went – in my lap, just as we were taking her to the vet.
Irene, Eugenio is such a beautiful boy!
Cats and cheese – I was eating a bit of tasty cheese and had to give Fribbie three little bits, because she was giving me the Laser Glare of Death. Much to my amaze she ate all three instead of eating one and leaving the next covered in spit.
Cats choosing humans: when I bought Maddie, I couldn’t decide whether to take her or a very friendly marmie. It wasn’t a life or death choice, this being a no-kill shelter. I ended up asking Louis what he thought, and he opted for the torbie curled up in her chair resolutely ignoring everyone. (And is she grateful, I ask? No, of course not. ๐ )
I’m so sorry to hear about the kitties. ๐
One of mine has been dealing with breathing trouble for a while now, and she’s back on the pills. It looks like she’ll need an ultrasound to figure out what exactly is going on.
Late, again, but offering a barrel full of hugs to any humans (and their furry overlords) who want them.
Hugs to all the humans of suffering cats! ๐ I hope that those who are gone can rest in peace and those who are still here become more comfortable soon and healthy too, if possible.
@kitteh, is marmie a common term for orange cats? My old orange boy was Marmee (short for Marmalade). He lived 14 1/2 years before passing away due to lymphoma, and now I have a new orange boy named after Kurt Cobain. Marmee was apparently drawn to my dad right away. (He was one of a litter of three, and my dad was trying to decide which cat to take home for a Christmas present to my brother and me.) Coby was a bit shyer, but he looked so much like Marmee and he was so sweet that we ended up choosing him. Of course, we ended up adopting his sister, a playful little black kitty who’s a friend to all living things, because we wanted two cats and she was the most personable cat any of us had ever met. They’re still young, so fortunately, no health scares. I’m just worried that Emmy will get out of the house one day and get picked up by a big bird. We have hawks and bald eagles in our areas, and one of the hawks swooped Marmee while he was hanging out on the balcony, and he was a couple pounds heavier than she is.
alaisvex, I don’t know how common it is, but yes, marmie = marmalade!
Have you any pics of your kitties you’d like to share?
Yes! Kitty pics! Are Coby and his sister still kittens, or are they fully grown?
Where I’m from, we worry about coyotes. My parents had what they are pretty sure was a coyote go through their yard a few times–it left some weird scat and killed a squirrel. I had a minor panic attack when I left my boss’s tiny dog out on his tie-up while I picked up his mail–it was dusk, and his house buts up against a golf course, so I was a bit worried. Luckily, his dog was fine, but quite happy to get back in the house. I don’t think he quite understands the idea of outside.
I’m adding to the hugs for everyone whose pets have been suffering. It is terrible to watch them sicken.

Oh drat! Didn’t post.
Well, I have a kitten pic:

Daww, still besties!
Cute Overload always calls them marmies.
And wordsp1nner, they’re almost three now. Wild animals are worrisome though. A family I used to live next door to lost their little maltese one night. They’re not sure if an animal got her (she was out with their black lab, so they’re not sure what would’ve approached him) or if someone stole her.
Here are my babies from a few days ago:

The blanket on the loom is to keep them from chewing on individual warp threads, but the threads as a whole are pretty strong.
Ehrmahgahd, I love tabbies. My best friend since middle school has the sweetest, most chillaxed tabby ever. And my boyfriend had a nice, dignified old tabby that lived to be fifteen before kidney failure took him. Tabby’s brother is still alive though and is nearing eighteen. He’s in good health, except for a touch of arthritis.
The tabby boy is currently on my lap in bed ๐ They are amazingly friendly cats–the tabby’s first reaction to meeting my dad was to roll over and let dad pet his belly within about thirty seconds of acquaintance. I fell in love with Jade, the tortie, first, but when they went to get her out of the cage Pan (the tabby) was sleeping on her, and I was like, “OMG, I can’t break them up.”
Aw! Yeah, you definitely can’t break up a pair. Plus, they can keep each other company when they’re by themselves.
I wish Darrow and Dracarys would snuggle and be friends. But I had Darrow for five years before adopting Dracarys and he’s used to being the only cat. Even after two years they just barely tolerate each other ๐
@ WWTH–that is what it is like for my parents’ cats.
Mine actually aren’t siblings–Pan had two sisters, who I left behind (don’t worry–at least one of them got adopted the same night Pan did) but they were shelter buddies. And frankly I don’t think 8 week-old kittens care.

Our two cats hate each other to the point of occasional violence, luckily we have a border collie who’s gotten quite talented at keeping them apart.
Did somebody say KITTY PICS?

DOUBLE LASER POWER.
Our cats all get along, that’s one reason I picked ragdolls as a breed. There’s the occasional miffed cat, but nothing more than transitory petulance.
Zolnier, maybe it’s a Cunning Plan your kitties have to keep your border collie happily occupied!
M. – AAH REFLECTORS LASER DESTRUCTION WARP SPEED MR SCOTT
Well it’s backfired, every week or so he gets a bit power mad and starts chasing them away from their bowels.
Of course Ginger was never terribly bright, even after he got his foot mangled in a car engine (he is now fine albeit missing a toe), he still enjoys sitting in the middle of the driveway when my mother pulls in.
