In which Paul Elam, alleged human rights champion, tells me to kill myself

Paul Elam @AVoiceForMen · 2 hours ago David Futrelle: Please kill yourself

So that was A Voice for Men founder Paul Elam’s response to a recent post of mine talking about Christopher Cantwell, an AVFM contributor who also likes to tell people to kill themselves.

In an AVFM post also titled David Futrelle: Please kill yourself, Elam waxed eloquent upon this theme:

David, please go kill yourself.

You should, however, before you slip away into the dark void that resembles your capacity for logic, consider that you may want to get out more. A lot more, actually.

“Please kill yourself,” in the context of Twitter and a lot of other internet exchanges is par for the course.

That is sadly true, Paul. I see that as a problem; you apparently see it as an excuse for the harassment and abuse you and your followers so enjoy heaping upon your opponents in the name of “Men’s Human Rights.”

Apparently, in Elam’s world, the best way to fight male suicide is by telling other men to kill themselves.

Oh, but one of Elam’s fans has an answer to that, too:

RedPillPhil ‏Futrelle isn’t a male so there’s no hypocrisy

To think this guy ever was a counselor…

You seem to be getting under his skin, or whatever covering he uses to disguise the fact that he’s a sentient trash heap, David.

Keep up the good work. We heart you.

Well, of course you aren’t male. You are a bunch of ferrets dressed like cats in a David suit. Therefore, you are made up of all sexes.

So, when bad behavior becomes common because guys like Elam are so actively awful we are supposed to think that awful behavior isn’t awful anymore?

That’s his excuse for being a dirtbag?

When shitty behavior that harms other people is common it is even more crucial to point it out and make it stop, not less. Plenty of cultural norms are horrible and should not be accepted with apathy. Homophobia is pretty common. So is racism. So is sexism and a host of other -isms. That does not make them less problematic or less worth addressing.

Elam isn’t just slimy and disgusting. He’s very, very, very stupid.

Funny how easily someone’s maleness can be revoked, isn’t it?

You know when someone fails at logic, argument, or rational discussion when all they have left is ‘Just go kill yourself/Just f*** yourself’.

Funny how one tweet reveals their underlying ideology. That tweet only makes sense if you believe that (a) that someone has lost their maleness is a valid insult (b) and you can be a human right’s activist while refusing to defend the rights of anyone who isn’t male.

But they aren’t misogynists who don’t think women are human. Really.

I think this is a good time for me to try Twitter’s new reporting policies. Wish me luck!

You know what’s nice? The occasional posts like this where all the bullshit is simplistic and up front, where we don’t have to go digging around insinuations, hidden meanings and endless paragraphs that sounds like bad poetry.

It’s refreshing, in a morbid kind of way.

cassandrakitty,
A guy who worked with my husband made a joke about revoking his “man-card” once.

Once.

jbgarner58 ,
I disagree on two counts.
1. Masturbation is not like suicide.
2. Some people’s arguments are so dumb and so disgusting that “Go fuck yourself” is a perfectly rational response, whereas trying to logic someone out of a position they did not logic themselves into isn’t. You can cast your pearls before swine if you choose, but I’ve got a pocket full of “Fuck you, Buddy”s and I’m happy to hand them out to the deserving.

He’s just speaking the truth: to him, men’s rights are the only human rights that matter. 😛

He can keep his sad, pitiful ideas of what it means to be a “man” all to himself. He’s a dinosaur, he knows he’s a dinosaur, and he can see the asteroid coming.

“Go kill yourself” or “you should die”, otoh, is usually a sign of a person who should be avoided by everyone.

Hey, why is everyone taking what Elam said out of context?

I’m apparently a glutton for punishment because I’d read more of Paul’s reasoned discourse until I got to this part, regained my senses and fled.

Now, perhaps the guys is not as smart as I think he is. After all, he could have worn the shirt with the buttons ripped off and had another geek use a marker to write “This is not permission to rape me!” across his bare chest, and it would have not caused such a stir. Or maybe he didn’t know that because he was too busy helping mankind accomplish one of the most remarkable feats in human history to keep up with slut culture.

Leaving aside whatever the hell “slut culture” is, I’m going to have to disagree with Paul here because I’m very confident that if the scientist wore a ripped shirt and had “This is not permission to rape me!” scrawled across his chest in marker, it would have created a much, much bigger stir. That would go viral real fast.

Of course I knew that Paul would have a hard time making mild criticisms pointing out that the shirt is in bad taste sound unreasonable, but I didn’t think he would flounder this badly with a nonsensical hypothetical comparison. I don’t know about the guys at the ESA but Paul clearly knows a lot about guys who aren’t as smart as they think they are, in fact he has a lifetime of knowledge about that phenomenon.

It’s rather sad these kind of terrible and violent replies are this common, though I guess we can at least hope it helps expose these people and their anti-humane beliefs for what they are if nothing else (would of course be best if suicide threats and stuff would stop completely though)

Oh wow, more farts from Paulie. He’s been very gassy today:

BTW, my sister is a carpenter. And a more competent one than most of the guys in her college class were.

Observe, a visual representation of the way in which the evil that is feminism is threatening to destroy our brave MRA heroes. It’s not their fault that they’re so scared, you see, we’re just very threatening.

Can some explain what the point of using ‘please’ is when you are telling people to kill themselves? If you are going to throw out all notions of morality, decency, kindness, and general humanness (cat values notwithstanding), why not throw out politeness too? Do they think that people are going to go “well I was going to be upset but then I saw the please and decided it was all good?”
