#gamergate 8chan

#GamerGate's new theme song is possibly the worst thing unleashed on the internet since, well, #GamerGate

Brace yourself, because there’s really no way to prepare you for how terrible this song is.

The lyrics are a bit difficult to figure out using, you know, your ears, so watch this in fullscreen mode so you can read them.

And no, this isn’t a joke. It’s a serious song made by serious #GamerGaters on 8chan. See this thread, or the GamerGareSings Twitter, for more details.

They are hard at work on more of these.  A lot more. Here are a couple of works-in-progress. Put them in your ears if you dare.

Do they have a GamerGate version of Bohemian Rhapsody? Why yes, they do.

Do they have one dedicated to their imaginary girlfriend, Vivian James? Why yes, they do.

Wash all of this out of your brain with some awesome music from Kiss!

If only Kiss really did sound like this. If only the GamerGaters sounded like this!

By 1995 I had already played through three generations of consoles, and went from Mario to Sonic fan.

“There a lyric sheet somewhere, to afraid to listen. Also just going by a squizz at the screen capture, do they really think cis-male is an insult as opposed to a description of someone born genetically male and liking it?”

@Zolnier ‘Genetically male’ is not really the correct term here, as it implies that person was originally male but later became female, rather than always having been female but with a body that didn’t correspond to that. GLAAD’s website has a useful dictionary of such things here: http://www.glaad.org/reference/transgender

Zolnier was referring to the gaters dislike of the term ‘cis male’. They somehow see it as an insult as opposed to a description.

Anti-intellectual, is what they are (in addition to everything else they are against), though I’m sure that they believe they are not. Likely, some of them are intelligent enough, but they don’t want to think past anything that’s on the surface.

They don’t see that *intelligent* is not equal to *intellectual*.

“Imaginary girlfriend”

She’s /v/’s daughter. Part of the reason they say “Don’t sexualize the Vivian”.

And it’s adorable that you think that thousands of people gathered together in order to harass women and force them out of the gaming industry.

Three months, and not a single woman has left. Gee willigers, we must be pretty bad at forcing women out of games. It’s almost as if this is actually about corrupt journalism!

I think this is best said to be a song *about* some of them GG dudebros. Even if it was recorded in year 2000. The message hasn’t changed.

Note for very dense dudebros: This song means you’re a baddie. It is not meant to glorify you.

I’m vaguely reminded of when Scott Walker, Repugnantcan Governor of Wisconsin, said his fave band was Rage Against The Machine, only to have the lead singer point out that Walker was the physical embodiment of the machine they rage against.

Or Ronald Reagan using Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” as a campaign song.

Didn’t Tom Petty have to tell some Republican to stop using his song as a campaign song? Think it was Palin or Bachman.

Born in the USA was the best example of this phenomenon, because really, how do you listen to that and come away with the impression that it’s a triumphal celebration of American imperialism?

I’m hoping for some repurposed Billy Bragg, personally.

Billy Bragg… how about “Which Side Are You On?”. That would be immensely amusing as well as quite sad. Though “The Man in the Iron Mask” might be more in their melodramatic vein. I can see them missing the messages of these songs entirely, sort of like the Portal one.

That song isn’t at all ruined for me by the way – I heard GLaDOS snickering in the background.

Can you imagine a #Gater in a test chamber? He’d call the Companion Cube a SJW, sputter angrily about being ordered around by a feeemale and jump into a death pit just because GLaDOS told him to avoid it.

@Skye:

The RNC got told to stop using Heart’s “Barracuda” as Palin’s unofficial theme song after the band heard about it and issued a cease-and-desist. Of course the GOP ignored them.

Was Bachman: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Girl_(Tom_Petty_song)

I forgot about Palin and Barracuda.

This thread has reminded me how much I like Portal. BRB, Portal.

Oh dear lord. I just did a search for the meaning of “Barracuda.” Apparently the song was written after Heart’s record label tried to fuel rumors that the two front women of the band (sisters) were lesbian lovers. The “barracuda” is the record label that was trying to drum up controversy to make money.

It’s almost comical that Palin wanted this to be her theme song as “Sarah Barracuda.”

Filmrunner, genetically male is also a descriptive term. with a few exceptions, people are or are not genetically male or female regardless of how they identify.

@humourlessRadicalFeminazi

You’re assuming that people being transgender is in no way a result of their genetic makeup, which for all we know it could be.

How about we not go down the trans argument rabbit hole, people? Leave it to tumblr, for pity’s sake.

What the hell his with that list in “Shill Alive?” Who are these people being listed? What are they being accused of doing?

(considering people are still claiming Zoe Quinn traded sexual favors for reviews, I don’t think it needs to be said how unlikely it is these people actually did anything)

I just got the chance to listen to all of these fully! Literally on the floor laughing. the huge waves of hatred directed relentlessly at women just trying to work authentically and the seeming impossibility of getting through to any of them was actually demoralising, but I never thought the antidote would be listening to them mutilate Bohemian rhapsody. All together now! “radfems! Woo-oo-oo-oooo!”

Ironically Portal, the game where the song this is based on comes from, was probably developed almost exclusively by people who detest gamergate.

In context I’m going to guess that the people in the song are still alive and shouldn’t be because something something SJW menace?
