Subtlety is not considered a virtue at AVFM

Well, I took another look at the A Voice for Men Facebook page. Lo and behold, their little meme makers have been working overtime! So here’s a little gallery of some of their latest work.

I have to admit that these aren’t quite as baffling as the John Galt meme originals we looked at a couple of weeks ago, or these also-very-confusing AVFM memes I posted last spring. But they are pretty darn terrible, in all respects.

Click on the pics to see the originals on Facebook, complete with thoughtful commentary from AVFM’s fans (except in the case of this next one, which I found reposted on an anti-MRA Facebook).

"No fat chicks" is apparently a very important Men's Rights issue

Wait, what? I was going to write out a clever caption for this but I’m not sure I can cover all the layers of wrongness and WTFuckery in this meme in a mere caption.

Hey, a meme just for me, by AVFM meme king "John Galt." Apparently MRAs have only ever watched two movies, The Matrix and Fight Club.

I honestly don’t get their obsession with big red. This one time, this lady did something “bad” to us, and we’re never going to let anyone else forget it. It doesn’t bode well for Anita Sarkeesian or any of the other current targets of their hate being able to get on with their lives anytime soon.

“Marriage has always been bad.”

They think women who don’t get married before they are 24 are no good and yes you are right they just want to control everything.

“Women eating mcdonalds and not pleasing my peen is so much worse than rape.” FTFY.”

Thank you

@SittieKitty I kind of read it as ‘well if you’re not going to shame fat people then you ALSO shouldn’t shame men who sexually assault because they’re totes exactly the same thing aha CHECKMATE FEMINISTS’

Although as several people have pointed out, the whole thing kind of falls apart when you realise that being fat, which affects only your own body and harms nobody else in any way at all, is in absolutely no way equivalent to forcing yourself on someone else and traumatising them. Or when you remember that the MRM actually seems to be pretty obsessed with shaming fat women (fat men don’t seem to bother them for some strange, mysterious reason).

@humourlessRadicalFeminazi:

You figured it out when you called it an obsession. Reddit has a similar thing where there’s this image of a kiss cam where a dude kisses his beer and the woman next to him leans away. Not only are the comments sections always full of hate, but the exact same image is re-posted practically on a weekly basis, with the comments full of a fury that never loses its intensity.

I guess there are so few examples of things they can get angry about that they have to latch on to and exploit the hell out of whatever they find. Their lives are so devoid of conflict that something that might be a micro-aggression to an unprivileged group feels like actual aggression to them.

Unless those men are feminists, or otherwise progressive.

@ellesar,
I think the popularity of these films with mras might be because they latch onto the narrative of the geeky isolated loner who ends up on a cliff or a skyscraper with a band of devoted followers and absolute insight into the illusions of the world beneath his feet due to nothing he has built but merely his unique clarity of thought. I think the idea of the red pill is not some fortunate useful image from a film they like but actually part of is fundamental appeal. They’re basically so confused by the world that thinking they’re secretly geniuses is all they have.

Are you new here? Did you get a welcome package?

And on the poster it’s not shaming fat people it’s shaming fat women. They don’t like women that doesn’t please their peen and all the times that they say men are not rapists to feminists they turn around exactly saying men are rapists but only because of womyn.

They want women to take the blame and control them. I hope that made sense I mean my explanation. I guess that’s what it’s saying.

…ok, clarity of thought is probably a bit of a stretch in Neo’s case. But they both have this theme of “power” through epiphanic enlightenment. They don’t have to do all that mucky personal growth and coping with failure and cooperating with other humans crap.

The analogy is not quite complete because ‘overeating how-dare-you-exist-while-not-thin’ women do not have entire websites devoted at hating food, calling them all kinds of insults and slurs, discussing how evil and stupid food is, and accusing it of trying to get all their money and run with an other alpha-fat-lady and keep them without dinner. If anything, any-size overeating people probably like food. (Not to mention the tiny detail that women are sentient beings with rights and agency and food is… food.)
Also, denying them sex is as bad as starving people. The UN must have been overtaken by feminists because they want to end world hunger but nobody seems to care about the sad boners of poor misogynists.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so disgusting.

@fruitloopsie, I did, last year. I’ve been away. 🙂 Thanks though.

Seconding the MRAs are totally okay with fat-shaming men if they don’t hold the same ideals as them (as with David).

@kirbywarp and SittieKitty – yes, good point. Though it seems to be done in a different way – kind of a ‘well ur FAT OMG therefore for some reason your views are invalid’ thing and less a ‘how dare you even exist while not being pleasing to my boner’ issue.

It’s been a long-held joke among my friends that there are two general types of people who watch “Fight Club” — the ones who understand the social commentary, and those who just think it’s really cool because of all the fighting. MRAs clearly fall into the second camp.

“Faint wafts of triple distilled man tears and a topnote of whooer penguin.”

That sounds marvelous.

Gloria Steinem, Hillary Clinton, Anita Sarkeesian, and Michelle Obama.

What was that about women being successful precluding the necessity of feminism again?

Apparently, they’ve never heard of rule 63.

Of course they did. Like with everything else, Manospherians only like Rule 63 when it’s meant to fabricate more objects to tickle their boners. Being reminded that women exist for more than that is misandry.

What I can’t stand, or understand, is why the manosphere clings to The Matrix and Fight Club and yet are so conservative.

They feature manly men being cool rebels and doing manly man things. Whoosh! Pow! Trenchcoats! Sweaty fisticuffs! Katanas!

The women have destroyed all the heroic real life men with their feminism so all the “real” men have left is Fight Club and the Matrix. They have nothing else. Oh, and vidya games.

I don’t think it’s sweaty crystal ball. It’s a cratered moon or planet. I agree a non-sweating crystal ball would have made more sense.
