#gamergate 4chan 8chan a woman is always to blame advocacy of violence antifeminism boner rage creepy douchebaggery doxing empathy deficit entitled babies evil SJWs evil women gamebros harassment irony alert men who should not ever be with women ever misogyny no games for girls no girls allowed oppressed men rape culture threats twitter zoe quinn

In a series of brilliant, furious Tweets, Zoe Quinn tears apart the myth that #GamerGate has "moved beyond" harassment of women

Get over it, dudes.
Get over it, dudes.

Zoe Quinn has had it.

Yesterday, fed up with the equivocating bullshit that’s constantly being said in the media and within gaming circles about #GamerGate, and pissed off at all those who think of themselves as good people but still refuse to see the hatred and misogyny and harassment and doxxing that has been central to GG since the start, Quinn posted a series of (justifiably) angry tweets calling out the cowards in the profession who know that what’s going on is deeply evil but won’t say anything, and documenting the unending harassment she and her boyfriend, and her family, and his family are still getting.

Was that even a sentence? I don’t know. The point is she’s STILL getting harassed. She’s STILL getting “prank” calls. She’s STILL getting death threats. People are STILL digging around in her personal life and the personal life of everyone connected to her.

And she’s not the only one. The newest target of #GamerGate wrath? Indie game developer Brianna Wu, who, as I noted in my last post, got death threats … for posting memes on Twitter.

Meanwhile, two creepy obsessed assholes are still begging for money to make a documentary they hope will ruin Anita Sarkeesian.

Oh, but #GamerGate is about ethics.

I’m just going to paste in a bunch of Quinn’s Tweets here, because they pretty much speak for themselves.

I followed up on the IRC log here and here, but I wouldn’t have known about it if she hadn’t been there first collecting screenshots.

Take the time to enlarge the pics on these tweets:

And then there’s … this:

Also, she gets phone calls:

Oh, you don’t believe she gets phone calls? Ta da:

As the MRAs say: Always Be Recording. Except that Zoe Quinn actually has a good reason to do this.

It’s kind of amazing that Quinn manages to retain a sense of humor in the midst of all this.

Gamer inside joke!

Also, kitty:

“This name, in any of its forms, is a common colloquialism in Russian for a bear, because it is similar to the standard name for bear медведь (medved).”

*faceplants with joy

Dennis Jernberg (@dennis_jernberg)

Especially if they bring Camille Paglia and Christina Hoff Sommers on Fox & Friends.

Oooh, had a sudden shivery, shuddery feeling. As though someone had just misandered over my grave…

I feel your pain. As for me, if that event ever happens, I’ll make sure to watch it, and then I’ll mock away. Besides, the ludicrously mislabelled “journalists” on Fox & Friends are highly mockable no matter what they’re making us facepalm over, and they deservedly get mocked often, especially by the late-night comedians.

No one on Gamergate talks about the multifaceted connections between AAA companies and the arms manufacturers, ranging from giving publicity to the newest guns to studios using their game engines to produce military simulators for the army…

Even though the Pentagon’s been heavily subsidizing the whole FPS genre since they commissioned America’s Army for the US Army back in the ’90s. I suspect that’s why most FPSes since then are military. I won’t be surprised if the GamerGaters turn out to be not just pro-military but pro-war.

no they are definitely that stupid @Harvey_S pic.twitter.com/1Dymb1CHcH

Ummm. Wow. Just wow. Conspiracy theories so illogical I’m pretty sure Alex Jones and Glenn Beck are going “Hang on, isn’t that a little far-fetched?”

Nah, this is exactly the kind of conspiracy Glenn Beck would conspire in, if he conspired with his good buddy the MRA preacher Mark Driscoll, naturally wearing their matching trilbies fedoras. No, these GamerGate MRA clowns don’t surprise me one bit; Beck and Jones schooled them, after all.

Dennis Jernberg (@dennis_jernberg)

(Uh-oh, looks WordPress failed to cross out “trilbies” even though I used an <s> tag…)

WordPress likes the del tag here, for some reason.

GamerGate is vile. If you think it’s about ethics in games reporting, you haven’t studied:
a) ethics
b) journalism
c) GamerGate
Seriously, nothing’s stopping Gaters from making a push for more objective games reporting. Get a journalism degree and change the industry practices yourself. Promote the games you love by playing them, buying them, and writing about how awesome they are. Explain what makes these games so great. Start your own review site and build it to be the industry beacon for passionate, well-researched games journalism.
GamerGate is not the way. It’s a terrifying, violent hate group. If that’s not how you want to identify yourself, get far the hell away and gone from GamerGate *now*. That filth is gonna stick.

The links actually lead you to the website of a sociologist who has done the most work analysing and fighting MANNdat.

Ahhh, good to know. I thought it looked a little too even-handed and level-headed to be those guys. (Also, it was late here, and my eyes were buggy.)

I know I posted this already in the other thread, but I should also put it here: this doesn’t look like a conspiracy theory to me. It looks like a plan to physically assault ZQ, with this “a friend of a friend said” business released ahead of time so that when ZQ shows up somewhere injured from the assault, she won’t be believed.

I would take this as a threat and a plan of violence.

Julian Assange, wikileaks guy and probable rapist, actually made a comment in favor of GamerGate.

Goes to show how far out of touch he is on this one. It’s NOT about “censorship”. Death threats and rape threats are NOT free speech. He ought to understand that full well, since he faces a possible death sentence for espionage. The layers of irony are getting too many to count.

I joined twitter several years back purely to play Fallen London. Just sent out a tweet on #gamergate. Lets see what happens.

Bina sez:

Death threats and rape threats are NOT free speech.

Not to mention, the threats are an attempt to suppress the target’s ability to speak freely.

Somewhat off-topic. I’m a twitter noob; how do I enlarge pictures enough to read them? For example, in one of Zoe’s posts linked up there, there’s a long thin picture of what looks like a Tumblr inbox. But I can’t enlarge it nearly enough to read it; twitter insists on fixing its height to the height of my screen and I can’t zoom in 🙁

Good point. And none of these chumpions of freedumb are criticizing the US Army’s use of online games to lure kids several years too young to enlist, either.

It’s almost like this “journalistic” integrity of which they bleat is just a red herring for the persecution of women gamers, developers and media critics!

So I went to the link provided in the Thunderclap campaign and what did I see? Right on the front page is one of those “see!? We’re totally harassed too!” stories that has pictures of tweets from some guy threatening to go to the address of a known creepy cyberstalker and murder him. You know what was missing? Any kind of black box or other covering of the address in question. There is no way this is an oversight: they just really don’t give a shit about who gets hurt because to them, an “anti-GG” person getting hurt = false flag and a pro-GG person getting hurt = “THEY’RE DOING ALL THE BAD THINGS THEY ACCUSE US OF DOING!” Keep in mind one Thunderclap participant has 355,000 followers.

No, I’m not linking to it directly. The guy they “accidentally” doxxed may be an asshole, but I have standards.

So y’all know how this fabled Gamergate is about “ethics in journalism”, and disclosuring connections and definitely absolutely not about corruption and being cozy with creators, yeah?

Funny how this happened, then:

Heh … I’m old enough that the name Misha will always bring to mind one image – the 1980 Moscow Olympics mascot.

I approve. Looks a bit Cheburashka influenced.

Oh god, the Gor RPG. You had to go and remind me I live in a world where someone is trying to make Gor RPG, didn’t you, skiriki?

skiriki: I really don’t think there’s a problem with people who went into VG writing because they love games backing a crowdfunding project because … they love games. The way GamerHate trolls try to hold that up as some kind of GOTCHA is stupid – the hypocrisy of not having a problem with it if it’s someone from “their side” is staggering.

I’m just hoping it’ll get the same kind of review as FATAL got back in the day. That was legendary. I might have to buy it for Darren MacLennan and Jason Sartin for reviewing, if it goes down to that.

@strivingally — I confus. I mean, TheQuinnspiracy account belongs to Zoe Quinn herself, and she’s the one pointing out how, funnily enough, this stuff gets a pass. 🙂

I’ve read James Desborough stuff (the “humorous” RPG supplement “The Slayer’s Guide to Girl Gamers”) and frankly, his Gor RPG wouldn’t be make a good epic review, because it would be offensive in a terribly commonplace way, rather than several hundred pages of vile and crazy.

I am not myself a gamer (my wife and son are, to some extent), but in the course of chasing around the various right-wing attempts to claim that Obama is deliberately bringing Ebola to the US (or in fact ordered the current strain of the virus to be engineered), I came across a couple of commentaries on Gamergate. I don’t think there is anything these people say that hasn’t been said many times here, but I thought people might be interested that there seems to be fairly strong support for the opinions that are generally expressed here.

Dennis Jernberg (@dennis_jernberg)

Gor RPG. This is the kind of thing the GamerGaters want to destroy casual games and women-in-gaming for. Gor represents what MRAs want women to be. Figures.

FATAL on the other hand — now there’s something completely off the rails (I mean like, roll 20d100 to injure a man’s vagina without breaking his skin — wtf?). Kinda like GamerGate itself…
