Do people have pet foxes, or are they just too wild?
I recall there being an old Russian experiment where foxes were selectively bred over the course of a few foxy generations to produce more domesticable specimens, so I would’n’t rule it out as a possibility. Probably not for everyone though.
They’re still in production. They’re too wild to be pet dogs but that doesn’t stop people. Interestingly though, every generation they become more and more physically dog-like, losing all their distinctly foxy features. They still smell like foxes though. Ew.
I feel really bad for fennecs kept a house pets. They spend their entire lives trying to escape and they’re good at it.
Foxes are a terrific animal to rescue and rehabilitate because they do. Not. Habituate. They are so good about staying wild and weary about people. You feel really confident when you release them that they know how to feed and house themselves and stay away from predators including people.
I went to Wikipedia to have a look at the classification, and ending up squeeing over all the fox pictures. ๐
I think that makes it bed time.
And some good news, then I really am going to bed: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/63440108/Valerie-Adams-named-World-Athlete-of-the-Year
Today, I forgot to take my meds this morning.
I realised this after I had been crying for an hour ๐
Headache now.
This makes me feel better somehow

You know, when I talk about my depression, I am normally either cryng or laughing.
And people just don’t get the laughing.
They think cos I laugh it isn’t serious.
It is, but you have to try and cope.
First two times I had a hysterical screaming fit in public, god was I embarrassed.
But after that, you laugh, cos you get used to it.
tl;dr Laughing dosen’t mean your not taking things seriously or hurting.
I hope you get through this patch okay.
Thank you
And posting more here cos I want to imagine I’m talking to people.
Prepp’ing dinner, a family recipe.
Fry bacon, cut up and add to casserole dish.
Fry sausages (preferably rolled in flour) chop up and add to casserole dish.
Chop onion, fry, when almost ready add tin of baked beans. Add to casserole dish.
Top with mashed potato, running fork over it to add texture.
Stick in oven for 30 minutes till top is crispy.
Gourmet ? Nope. Delicious ? Oh yeah!
that sounds fantastic!
Easy to make too!
right now i’m more or less living on oatmeal b/c it can be made & eaten w/ one hand & has protein. your casserole sounds great
@gilshalos: I hope you’re feeling better.
I enjoy porridge as well.
Didyou know that St Andrew’s Uni still gives students a day off when they traditionally went home and boiled up a drawer full of porridge. ? They’d take it to Uni and carve off a slice a day and fry it
@pallygirl I’m slowly stablising as the meds cut in, plus talking to people. Even if only virtually.
Right, put in oven, 30 mins to go
So, this is too funny. I grounded my teen from her laptop, phone and Xbox this weekend. The result?
Without her usual distractions she has cleaned and reorganized like a machine (even her siblings’ clothes and toys. That’s 3 kids worth of random things shoved random places) to occupy herself. She’s says she’s doing her closet next.
I assume this is a symptom of withdrawal.
Not sure if I should unground her for her fine work or keep her grounded for life because her being stir-crazy is working out so well for me.

@ Lea – maybe keep her grounded and send her to my house for a bit? ๐
Lea, definitely keep her grounded. Meanwhile, find out what’s necessary to start a house-cleaning business! Kid’s career could be all mapped out. ๐
Lea, seconding the “keep her grounded” and adding an invitation for her to come to my station. We have a storage room with junk kindly donated by previous live ins, that I’ve just started trying to sort through…
On that note, I’m going to whine just a little.
I’m not getting another live in. Apparently, ‘someone’ convinced him he should move into a different station.
No one bothered to tell us we weren’t getting a second live in until after he’d been at the other station for a few days, and we were wondering when he was coming out.
I had just gotten all excited, too.
Crossing fingers that we’ll find another live in, someday…
Right then. I’m keeping her grounded and renting her out. ;P
Sorry about your live in , contrapangloss.
More funny teen antics:
You know those stuffed animals that sing when you squeeze them? You know how when they get old they just make staticy-screechy noises? Well, she found one of those during her cleaning extravaganza.
I walked into the dining room last night and my teen is at the table with the sewing box out, cutting into the stuffed animal.
Me: Watcha do’in?
Her: ‘Bout to Ursula this shit.
My heart: IIIIIIIII will always loooove yoooouuuuuu!
